- After a long break, the Rope Dye Vlog is back!
A few weeks ago, I committed what many would consider to be a crime against dry denim. I washed my jeans!

The time had come when they were in dire need of repair. Before I hand them over to the repairman, it is only fair that they get a good wash. No one should be expected to handle denim that’s been rubbing against your sweaty crotch for months on end!
So into the bath they went. A little soap, a little agitation and 45 mins later. Voilà, clean denim!
But what did this little dip in the tub do to the jeans?
In the latest vlog, I take a detailed look (probably too detailed) at how the washing affected the denim.

Intense..true enthusiasm. Anyway I like wearing crispy freshly washed and sun dried jeans . Fades and wear features are more subtle through frequent washing but imo rarely washed raw jeans is just so mainstream...
Yeah, I was doing this with a pair of LVC 1915's but the denim was getting lank and weird looking with the regular washing. Might be different with heavier denim.
I recently came upon a pair of Baldwins and have now discovered the world of raw denim. Very cool and looking forward to the new experiences with it. Have enjoyed the vids. Thanks
Ah nice. I have not heard the Baldwin name in denim for years. Where did you find them? I just looked at the site, seems they are down at the moment. Not sure if it is due to the current situation, or they have closed up shop. You might have a rare jean on your hands now ;)

@@CeeAreDee Picked up the Baldwin "Reed" on Ebay for ~$80. tag price of $220.00. Japanese denim, feel like a ~14oz. Vanity sized like crazy. I normally would wear a 34 which is what I bought but I should've gone with a 33. Now that I've learned something about measuring for raw denim it seems more often than not we'd be upsizing not downsizing. I don't think Baldwin even makes them anymore as they've "Gone Hollywood" now and are doing more fashiony prewash stuff. They bunch up some right at the very back loop which is a little annoying but live and learn. I soaked just the tops of them in the tub and got .5" of shrinkage out of them. I've got a pair of Jack Spade Cone Mills coming soon I also got from Ebay and I'm obsessing over ordering my first pair of Railcars. sorry for the long reply...
Ha ha! 20 minutes on the mystique of denim fades! I could say don't be so serious about it and they are only jeans, but...I'm now watching various RUclips channels on denim and I have 3 pairs of Selvedge so maybe I am getting unhealthily obsessed too!

Intriguing to look at the leather patch closely.
I had some jeans where the belt can go THROUGH the leather patch. And replacement patches are available all over the 'net. Personalized, too! I want a very durable leather patch that has my Twitter handle and my blog's address w/some artwork, and is triple sewn on the top and bottom w/very durable thread so I can put a belt through it. (And maybe a couple of rivets, too.) I just found some brand new jeans in the back of my closet, so in addition to a permanet mini-cuff and some leg tapering (they didn't have a "thin-legs" option) alteration, I want to replace the patch so people can actually see it.
Because leather jeans patches are SO COOL. 👖 And jeans are so personal. 🌞
It's a nice thought. For me however, I always wear a T shirt or shirt untucked so you never see the patch anyway. I never really gave it very much consideration if my belt went thought or not.

I have never been able to get hold of a pair unfortunately. So can't do much about them. But a Denim jacket video is coming soon :)
I just got up some money 2 mon ago to get a pair of raw SELVEDGE,I went with momotaro and the build quality is INSANELY good for anyone interested in strong seam construction ,I know they are like the one brand that fades slow but I am going to absolutely DESTROY these till they are white!!
Haha, glad to hear it... Yeah, I am wearing a pair of Momo's at the moment and they were insanely inky at the start. Very slow fades and after 8 months they are just starting, they will be beautiful in the end tho.

do you do a rotation? or you go single pair until you retire a pair?
I tried too, but I am a little impatient to wear one pair out and then move on. I just have load of jeans I wear throughout the week. At the moment I have an indigo pair of Momotaro's and also a black pair. And I am about to start with a pair of LVC 1890s jeans. But they will be more my summer denims, the fabric is only 9oz

If you have a pair of jeans with a leather patch that goes really dry, rub some hide food or Ballistol into it. 👍

Do it! My two current project pairs are Momo's. If I were to give you a tip, try on in store. Always the best bet.
Maybe no wallet fades in your jeans because your wallet has no money in it from all the spending you do on raw denim... That's how I feel, myself, after finding myself caught up in Iron Heart shirt and jean purchases this year.

how much did they shrunk pls?
Not much at all. Maybe a cm in the waist which instantly stretched back out. And nothing noticeable in the length. The denim is sanforized.

Do you think I should spray the insides of my new jeans with disinfectant before first wear? Worried about others having tried my jeans on before me at the store.
Nah, you will be fine. I think the chemicals in the disinfectant might do you more harm... although , with this virus going around, maybe wait for a few weeks before going to a store.
