I don't know if it's super common, but the sister missionaries who gave our tour at Carthage, sang a cappella "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" to our group in the room where Joseph was martyred. I'll never forget that experience.
I visited Carthage Jail many years ago. It was a spiritual experience to be there. I am enjoying learning new information about the martyrdom. Thanks for sharing.
This is an absolutely fantastic series - thank you for putting this together! I visited Carthage some years ago but we didn't have time to take the full tour. I walked in the door and stood at the bottom of the stairs. A tour was going and they were upstairs in the room where Joseph, Hyrum, Willard and John were. I could hear the audio playing with the gunshots and commotion, and while that was going on I walked back out the door and over to the window where the Prophet Joseph had fallen out. It was humbling to be in that spot. The spirit of that place was overwhelming and I wept. I will never forget going there and the spirit I felt.
I know Joseph Smith wasn’t the Savior, but while listening I felt the type of Christ right down to the martyrdom, something I wish hadn’t been restored or reenacted again.
