Sam Vecenie, a Senior NBA Writer at The Athletic, talks all about basketball. From the NBA, to the NBA Draft, to college hoops and even some high school, Vecenie has you covered in this show.
Love the breakdown, as always! I’ve been team start Scoot, trade Ant before the season started. Thrilled to see him proving himself
I'm just so very grateful that you take the time to do these. This level of coverage is literally unmatched. Happy to have more context for what specific things to look for when it comes to Scoot's growth.
One thing Lamar often points out on the broadcast is just how often Scoot makes the simple pass. I wonder Sam if you agree to some extent with Lamar on Scoot's ability to keep things moving, and if so, how much value that brings.
It's actually kinda wild how bad of a screener Ayton is. Probably not ideal when you're a team who's two best young prospects are guards lol
One of the softest basketball players ever
Shows you why they drafted Clingan
Some nights Aytons screens look fine and some nights they’re like awful. I think Aytons effort overall varies depending on how many shot attempts he’s getting on offense.
@@thuggwaffle8825I think you are right
The 27:00 "play him with a lot of non-shooters" is funny because almost all of our roster would be considered non-shooters.
as a trailblazers fan i will always ride with scoot, it seemed like the athleticism disappeared for a while, im so happy to see him start to succeed and hope it is a sign of things to come.
I have long been slightly skeptical but hopeful regarding Scoot and am really pleased to see how he is playing lately. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this is a sign of things to come.
44% from 3 for the month of January, really hoping he can keep up that kind of production. It will help the spacing immensely, which will also make his life easier.
Even if he can maintain 35-38% it will help him out tremendously
Fascinating and fantastic breakdown. Really appreciate the objective attention paid to young players and teams. For Scoot finishing at the rim is definitely the ultimate make or break skill. I hope the Blazers aren’t stuck drafting another guard because of best available, so Scoot can continue to get the chance to develop.
Just found your channel and these are GREAT breakdowns.
My boy finally started ignoring Chauncey’s dumbass
the fact they drafted him 3 overall and Chauncey is just now starting him consistently is completely insane
@@lucasbishop3125the only reason he’s starting him is because Simons and Grant have been hurt. Can’t wait for Chauncey to be gone next season.
You should really consider renaming ‘Recommendation Corner’ to “The Rec Center” just to keep it more in tune with the b-ball theme
Scoot is my favorite player, I understand he still makes mistakes, hes a 20 year old point guard. Hes been so much better!
At 12:30 you lamenting about DA not setting a physical screen. Not likely. The dude is the most contact averse center I've ever seen.
52:10 has been using the right hand layup on the left less, thankfully.
Love the breakdown. Really interested to see the development next year once Chauncey is gone. Hopefully a coaching change doesn't hinder his development too much.
I think if anything a coaching change would give him more confidence.
i was waiting for this
Shocker, it takes a few seasons for young guards (especially teenagers) to get acclimated to the NBA. He went 2nd overall for a reason boys, long term projection.
He went 3rd
@nickhopson Forgive the memory, im deep into this Flagg class and Scoot hasn't exactly had a stellar start up to this point in his career lol.
Professional scouts are better at their job than amateur scouts. Unfortunately the amateurs are more loud and have no disincentive to cry "Bust!" early
Last year when he Nashed under the basket (especially from the right wing) it was a jump pass and pick six. Every time. Feels like he did that 50 times.
Baron Davis 2.0? 🤔 He was picked 3rd overall and also had a bad rookie year very similar player also in terms of playstyle, size and athleticism
Fair comparison. Both had crazy wingspan and are scrappy players.
give all credit to Coach Billups. Please ignore the first half of the season, when Scoot got benched to pad Anfernee Simons stats.
Surprised to hear Matas is a poor defender. Bulls fans were saying it was the side of the ball he was better at earlier in the season. Is it simply a lack of physical strength, or bad process?
Think that he's probably better on defense now becuase he's been that bad on offense.
And yeah, the physical strength is a huge issue on defnese.
These DA screens omg. Just pick a spot and actually get into ur guy he constantly tries to switch the side of the screen and chickens out of contact. And its this very wishy washy action that will get him the illegal screens hes trying to avoid
Scoot can’t run a team to save his life and the blazers are winning games like he can lol this won’t end well here in Portland. Good luck in the draft Portland…..
i gave up on him so many times
Obviously a very patient and measured analysis!!
We should have drafted Amen
Not saying amen wasn't a better choice, but hes one of the worst shooting wings I've ever seen which I think does heavily limit his ceiling. Like his 90th percentile shooting outcome would be becoming an average shooter.
Scoots ceiling if he somehow puts it together and refines his game is higher imo, although its also much less likely that he ever becomes a more impactful player than amen
