I remember that well - being patted down in Castle Street then having the metal detector run over you before going into shops. When I first moved to England, I still walked up the the security guard in shops and raised my arms to be searched out of habit. He thought I was crazy 😀

You used to see bomb tape over all the shop windows so they wouldn’t shatter if there was a blast. Just seemed normal at the time.
