This is the one song, i think Anette never will be beaten. Her voice fits perfect. And ... it's one of my favorite songs of the album. It's so wonderfully wacky!
There’s something I love about Annette and scaretale. She fit for the imaginaerum era in my opinion.

Yeah. The sad part is though the Nightwish community as a whole prefers live. Annette is more so about fun and more of that classic metal style. So as talented as she was, it just wasn’t going to end well.
@@landensummitt909 good point. I suppose most top bands are preferred live, so Anette was always going to suffer for that, in most people's eyes. And I get a bit fed up hearing that she was only good on albums, because they tweaked the sound. Wish fans would just give her some credit for a change. She did two brilliant albums.

For me it always sounds just ridiculous when someone says that Anette didn't fit into the band🤦... I personally think she DID fit in the band completely and they did two AMAZING albums together too but ofcourse after Tarja the sound of the band changed quite a lot and it took some time for me too to get used to it.
I know there are A LOT of Anette haters (Floor lovers to say it otherwise) that doesn't even try to like her and mocks her only for the joy of mocking but despite of our opinions, it was the sound that Tuomas wanted for Nightwish at that time so who are we to even say that she didn't fit..🤔

So much stuff going on and some things has kept my mind a bit busy and above all that doing 60hours work weeks for almost two months now so you can imagine there is very limited energy left to be online as well😌.. but only one more week and then atleast three weeks vacation and also more time to concentrate into my favourite hobby, listening music😊

Hei guys! Right Juhis. Easy to understand when one had old fav songs, and then the new vocalist sings in different style you get the "she doesn't fit" comments. But new great songs were made. As Tuomas was composing the kind of music he wanted and the whole band chose her from thousands... they obviously thought she fitted. 8 x platinums for her albums in Finland, argue against that if you will! And those are OLD sales numbers.
She did the best album
The best Annette songs are: Eva, Meadows of Heaven and Slow, Love, Slow. This is where she feels best and can "compete". And Scaretale, of course, just because it demands deranged voice (Floor tried it but it wasn't the best, or recording wasn't high quality).
Turn Loose The Mermaids is another great one from Anette.
And what about Eva and the Escapist?

@@deeteenw Mermaids is good representation, yes. But Escapist has too much lyrical repetition and her voice doesn't stand up to other examples. Which is shame since the song has great start and instrumentation.
I would add "For the Heart I Once Had" on that list. From all the songs Anette recorded for Dark Passion Play, besides the slow songs you mentioned, this one is just top notch with her voice. Unfortunately, they never played it live. I've seen Anette do an acappella version of that and she would be just fine singing it live.
I love Annete. Meadows of heaven is her best song imo. Breathtaking ballad.

This is one of my fav Nightwish songs.
I agree, in this song Anette bright voice and her role interpretation fit perfectly with the witch caracter, she is simply perfect for this one.
Anette did some really good songs in her NW period, some of them are not much nightwishish, but really nice, you can try "Slow, love, slow" for your next Anette reaction, totally different vibes and music style, but will surprise you a lot as well.
I also think this song shows a band that has no fear to be judged and feel free to do whatever they want, and that is really rare and so precious, I love these guys.
About the clowns, I'm sure yours is exactly the reaction they were lookin' for, this night remember to look under your bed before sleeping, or better ask Sarah to do it for you, who knows what you can find :D

I don't love Anette, but I have to admit that in some specific songs, sometimes live sometimes studio, she had her highlights... And she is a good singer, it's only unfair to be compared to the God Tier list where Floor and Tarja are...
True. Floor and Tarja are both on another level entirely. My apologies to the Anette fans out there but it is what it is.
The funny thing is when these two comments combine into context, it reads as someone apologise to Anette fans because she is not as good as Tarja or Floor, so its unfair to make the comparison on the first place.
Well folks, I have bad news for you... true Anette fans would never compare her to neither Tarja nor Floor, they are just enjoying what she had to offer and see her as herself, not trying to be someone she's not, which is how everyone supposed to behave like. And more importantly, they respect Tuomas decision of choosing her as Nightwish's voice in his next projects in the new era going forward. Perhaps you will need to listen to The Poet And The Pendulum more and understand that those who like to 'bring back' Tarja for an argument might be, in some way, responsible towards how Tuomas feels... 🤔

I bought the blu-ray as soon as it was available, and I've probably seen it a dozen times.
I think most people agree that this is Anette's best song - it's just something that she could really bring to bear. If there had actually been more of her singing in this song it would have been great. It was also timing. Her life was not a mess. Her health was not a mess. Together, her voice and performances were great. People often say that she wasn't good live - but that really wasn't the case. By the time she was not good, it didn't matter if she was live or not. When her health was failing, so was her voice. When her life was a mess, that was contributing to her health issues. She is now with The Dark Element and was excellent live. She was also clearly in good health.
Was she a good choice for Nightwish? That's a whole other debate. During Tarja's time, fans grew very used to her operatic capabilities and her style of singing. A sizeable number of fans weren't happy with Anette. She was an enormous shift in style. Her method of singing Tarja's songs was not making a lot of fans happy. Without a set list of songs she could make her very own, Anette was losing fans quickly right off the bat.
When Tuomas fired Anette, I think he must have taken into account how fans reacted to Anette's style and looked for someone whose style was closer to Tarja. Floor is a VERY happy medium. She's very competent, while having a style capable of carrying out most of the best qualities of both Tarja and Anette. That's a tall order, and that's what we got (no pun intended). The one and ONLY song I didn't think Floor did well on was this song. Anette can do creepy like nobody else. Maybe it's something specifically suited to Anette's voice or maybe her style. Floor sings very smoothly as a rule, and this song is NOT smooth. It is perhaps the very opposite of that.
I still like some of Tarja's songs over Floor's and some of Floor's versions over Tarja's. Comparing them is silly. They are close friends who did a RUclips talk to each other. They've sung together. Some song's highlight features in a voice better than other's and some people will like those features and others will not. If nobody could accept anybody but Tarja, that would have been the end of Nightwish in 2005. Think about all the great music from Nightwish that has come about since then. Some of it came about from Anette's time - Some of the songs from the widely favored 2013 concert at WOA were originally planned for Anette. Without Anette those songs would never have been written. Every singer has contributed to the continuity of Nightwish.

Anette suits well for a few NW' songs. For example this one, Meadows of Heaven, Eva, Amaranth, Bye bye Beautiful etc.
That face when you're rocking but scared that more clowns will appear, priceless.
The NW albums with Annette are quite good, and many (myself included) believe Imaginaerum to be their best overall album. If not for the Denver debacle and the backlash after, she might have been longer with the band. Her voice is good, very bright and whimsical, but in my opinion, she doesn’t have the range and gravitas of the other two (definitely not Floor, my favorite NW singer, whose versatility and sheer power is amazing). The song you watched had scenes from the NW movie Imaginaerum - definitely worth a watch!!! (Just watch out for those clowns LOL).

25 year Nightwish fan here. Imaginaerun was indeed their best album overall! Not that the others are bad. Not at all. But this one, and the movie, got me like no other. To this day.
Imaginaerum is, IMO, their best CD. I commented to my brother when it came out that Toumas outdid himself with Imaginaerum.
When you get through enough NW then have a listen to the whole Imaginaerum album. It’s simply awesome and Anette did a wonderful studio job. She’s done some decent stuff since Nightwish but again it’s studio. I haven’t seen/heard enough live recordings to know how she is on stage. Many comments point to a vocal stamina thing. I don’t know but I like her.
Amazing song. This is a mix of Nightwish movie and live with Anette. Listen to this song the studio version with Anette because you missing out so many scary details the studio version has, but one of Anettes best live performances. The clowns are from the movie, this video does not give justice to his song.
Great reaction Tom. Check out “Meadows of Heaven” by Nightwish. Annette sings that one and it’s one of my top 5 Nightwish songs. It’s beautiful and Annette sings it brilliantly.

Finally a song with Anette
I think both Anette and Marco NAILED their roles in this song. Freaking hard to think how anyone could improve it. And hard hitting metal too! Anette played in rock musicals before joining Nightwish, so she apparently liked doing that kind of stuff. Best thing in Anette for me is how she variates her voice making songs lively and colourful, definitely not a boring singer. My fav Anette NW songs: "For the Heart I Once Had," just love Anette's take on "The Poet and the Pendulum," "Escapist," "Meadows of Heaven," "Storytime," "Slow Love Slow" ane "Eva". Both of her albums are PLATINUM.

I am pretty sure the circus part of this song took inspiration from grin grinning ghosts (the theme song from the haunted mansion) if not, it could definitely be played in the haunted mansion on Halloween

This is the record that Anette shined. Nothing against Anette, but you musty give Props to Tuomas. He was already composing Dark Passion Play when they brought her on, and although I love that record, Imaginarium is where I had tru appreciation for Anette. Shows the brilliance in Tuomas to compose music that fits the vocal styles that he is writing for.

All Nightwish songs are epic (beyond epic with the last two albums) but this album is just ... grand :D each and every of the songs on Imaginaerum is huuuge in every aspect + it has the one and only soft duet with Marco. Actual duet, not him in backing vocals or doing a character
This is among my favorite Annette NW songs! Others would be "Eva", "Meadows of Heaven", "Slow Love Slow", "The Dove, the Crow and the Owl"... I most likely got that title wrong sadly lol That fan animated video is tear wrenching...

Hi, check out the Canadian-Finnish film Imaginaerum (2012). And you will understand the whole album of the same name. ;-)
this song is from the Imaginaerium movie that Nightwish made, which is why you see many images and scenes from the movie, and characters from it.
Tim Burton needs to ask Nightwish if they would like together for a Movie. THAT would be SOMETHING EPIC. Love Scaretale. Great Composition, Great London Orchester. This Song like others have a Meaning. Just watch Imaginaerum .. the MOVIE ! There is a Story behind it. It is an Concept Album but the Songs do work alone as well. Love it .. Marcos Part is spot on. hehe Fun Fact: Tuomas Holopainen is writing the Songs having her Voice in her Mind and he likes it cause her pop Voice is perfect for the spooky stuff. Even if she is nor Tarja, She was cool and perfect for Imaginaerum.
Floor also performed this at least once at the 2012 Helsinki concert if you're ever interested in her take. She performs it pretty similar to Annete except I think she adds a little growl to the "bite me" line.
Yeah, Floor goes demonic-growly, as opposed to Anette's witchy-screechy.
May I suggest your next Nightwish video? Weak Fantasy (lyric video live @ Tampere). I'm sure you'll love it!
To me, this is really the only NW song I can't see either Floor or Tarja doing. Anette's bright and slightly squeaky voice just suits this one. She fits this song. NW videos are second to none. The production quality is amazing.
While I agree with what you said of her voice in this song, I've heard her last 2 solo songs and she no longer sounds bright and squeaky. She now sounds dark and a bit angry, like when we pushed Mom just a bit too much and she let us know we better behave. And for metal that works!

If you want to hear more from Annett: there are (at least for me) two songs that will always (!) remain Anett songs. These were (as far as I know) not yet sung by Floor. 1. Meadows of Heaven (Ballad-ish) and the Escapist. Both absolutely great.

-You should do a reaction to Paperdoll - Fear of domination, an industrial metal band from Finland that doesn't have enough recognition and they have way less listeners than they deserve to have with their work.
Their music is truly unique, it's pretty heavy (at least for those that aren't so into metal), insanely melodic (so it is like the complete opposite of Meshuggah) and you can hear from the sound of their songs that they know what they're doing.

For more Annette you should check out Amaranth and Slow, Love, Slow. IMO Amaranth is one of the best of Annette's songs and with Slow, Love, Slow you basically get Nightwish doing smooth jazz. I will say it's also worth it to find Floor's version of Slow, Love, Slow. It's also really really good.

Surely a song not seen in the concert setlist lately to much, and yeah it could be a regular there, just as many other songs is, however there still is this Marko part, that might be hard to do live, getting the same vibe from it, but i think Tuomas could make it work still somehow.. and Anette got a lot of good studio songs, so i suggest you get a total opinion on Aneete soon, as Tuomas is a master in writing songs to those who sorround him, so he did with Anette, the only thing with Anette is that she was often not as good live as Floor or Tarja is, but Studio version, she got some really good songs..

I love Anette so much! This is a song that I feel none of the other NW singers could come close to her on. It is perfect for her voice! Honestly, she does an amazing job on the DPP and Imaginaerum albums. I prefer her vocals on the album versions of most songs, rather than live, but either way she kicks ass. She does a live version of Sahara that I think tops Floor, and her versions of Eva, Meadows of Heaven, and Slow, Love, Slow are the best. I also prefer her album version of 7 Days to the Wolves over Floor's live version.
Overall, there is a lot of hate for Anette in the NW community, but she was what they needed at the time after Tarja and helped us heartbroken Nightwish fans through, as long as we were able to "get over" there being a new singer. The biggest help was Anette having her own original material, because it really sucked hearing her sing Tarja's stuff.
Each of the Nightwish singers has songs that are "theirs" in that they sound better than the other singers on. Each of them were insanely talented, and each of them helped Nightwish grow as a band, which in turn allowed us as fans to enjoy over a hundred different songs in the last two and a half decades.
So anyway, with Nightwish, the LIVE version is ALWAYS better. Always, always, always. Loved it, but more if it was live.

I love floor,, but annette really fit on this song. One of my fav NW song.
One of Nightwish's very best. I put it top 5 for sure. Anette is brilliant in this one. Her live performances is where she lacks compared to Tarja and Floor, but I love Anette too.

True! Floor is my favorite too but really is Anette's song. I also prefer Anette in Amaranth. Floor sings it well but somehow I like Anette more in that.
I used to thought Anette just wasn't good enough but then I heard 'Swallow The Sun - Cathedral Walls ft. Anette Olzon' and that was the most amazing Doom Metal songs ever. So now I think she is not bad at all but maybe this genre just was completely wrong for her voice (I actually feel sry for her since everyone are comparing Tarja and Floor which makes it look like Anette didn't even exist... but yeah...those are pretty big shoes to be filled if you want to become Night Wish singer). I mean Night Wish was originally founded based on the fact that actual opera singer was going to be lead vocalist. If Tarja wasn't there for Night Wish at first place, then whole band could have been Pop, Black Metal or Folk band.
I miss the great orchestrations in the last album! A shame!
