I'm really happy to hear you're taking this path! I've met a lot of passionate and brilliant physicians work so hard for their patients but don't get to deliver their care efficiently. I think getting an MBA to get those practical skills would be really impactful amplifying your impact!
Great presentation Dr. Juthani!! This is a great dual degree to set yourself up to one day become a CEO of a hospital.. physician CEO’s are become MUCH more popular in the hospital setting.. there’s a SIGNIFICANT correlation with Physician CEO’s that indicate an average of 25% operations margin (thus creating larger profit margins) differences when compared to the CEO’s that aren’t physicians in hospitals. Another job avenue to look into with an MD/MBA are in either - the biotech industry - the public sector as a lobbyist after you work as a CEO in a hospital - the insurance side that help dictate the hierarchy of approved treatments for various pathologies
thats super exciting. ive been toying around with the idea of being an md/mba too but literally have no guidance into how to do it as a med student at my school. this motivated me to look more into my options though!
When did you decide you wanted to do an MBA? I recently opened up a healthcare business with someone and am applying next cycle and Yale is one of my top choices. How should I go about it?
Man that's some great thinking !!! I hope you all the best and i really thank you because this video for some reason motivated me to work harder because now medicine seems some much more than just medicine !!!!
Can you focus on healthcare in your MBA? As someone who hails from a family of entrepreneurs, and who lives in the Bay Area and has worked with startups mostly in healthcare...general MBAs are usually a waste of money and time. You can learn all the essentials of business from Harvard’s CORE eMBA online for a fraction of the price, audit case-based classes at Yale, and then instead of an MBA - an MHS in Healthcare Economics would serve you sooo much more. Healthcare Economics, Policy, etc thats the hard stuff that many entrepreneurs I’ve engaged with get screwed by a lack on understanding. Tanks companies. Also I am a Yale PA student so wussup fellow Bulldog ;)
Wonderfully informative video! Thanks so much, Prerak! I'll be entering a medical school in the fall (hopefully!) that doesn't have a joint MD/MBA program. How would you recommend I approach this if I want a one-year MBA? To my knowledge, only Emory and Northwestern have one-year programs.
I was hoping more you could talk about the logistics of doing an MD/MBA. I am an MS1 right now and am also interested in getting an MBA but I'm not in a combined program. Do you take MBA classes during the summer and just don't do any research? Or do you take all the MBA classes at the end of your 4th year and start residency a year later?
So just curious, how do you justify spending the money on another degree? For me it seems that you don't NEED and MBA to take care of the business side of things-that can be learned easily through more schooling but schooling is not a necessity. Of course it makes sense to get an MD in order to practice medicine. So, why not learn about on the side and just start working on solving the problems that you see? Of course the network is a big plus so I understand that. Maybe another video would clear things up. Anyways keep up the good work.
Hey , the video was really informative . Well , I wanted to ask if it’s possible to do MBA along with residency in US if I complete my MBBS from India ?
Hey I had a question for u as an undergrad. Can we directly apply to an md/mba program or do we need to first get into md and then apply for mba in the second year?
Could I ask you something? Do you know any peers who were just computer science BS and premed? And where are they now? As in what path did they pick and whether they got into a medical school if they picked medicine. Thanks!
The way we view patients as "consumers" is the grossest shit. When you start your MBA studies, read up on "moral hazard". Deborah Stone has a good paper on it.
Hey Prerak! I’ve been following you for a while and I was wondering if you could give me your email because I wanted to ask you a few questions! :) keep doing the amazing work you do!!
I'm so glad you posted this! I've been having this same perspective on medicine and healthcare for a reasonable time now. Can we connect on LinkedIn? Or may I shoot you an email to inquire a bit about your experiences?? This is my profile (for context purposes): www.linkedin.com/in/eddaraujo/ Keep on rocking, Prerak!

Awesome video and I agree with you 💯 on all points about MBA and even government, medical school and airports are all businesses
this is pretty cool. Is Yale a 1 year preclinical school? if so, couldn't you get the MBA in 4 years? start it during research year
WOW WOW WOW. Amazing video. You explain so well
Awesome video!

Great video. There are also DO MBAs as well.

Hey Prerak, you should check out “Walk With a Doc”

Can a dual degree of MBA/MD be funded/scholarship form the university you're planning on doing ?
Please hope you see this 🙏 please help me out 🙏
Did you apply dual during application

It's more so for hospital management and getting to the higher up ranks within a hospital system faster.
Hey , the video was really informative .
Well , I wanted to ask if it’s possible to do MBA along with residency in US if I complete my MBBS from India ?
May I ask, what will it help you with? And how hard would it be if you go for both, instead of one? Thank you!
The real change in HC comes from policy first, to enable entrepreneurship to do its thing

Hey Prerak! The MD/MBA program at Yale- was it a joint/dual acceptance program or may other med students apply to the MBA program as well?
The way we view patients as "consumers" is the grossest shit. When you start your MBA studies, read up on "moral hazard". Deborah Stone has a good paper on it.
Did u study business in school…I have Sciences in school and no business so can I do this degree
What about an MHA?
Sir can u please tell what textbooks did u read in med school for anatomy
Please reply sir ur reply will be highly grateful to me ☺
Did you choose a specific concentration within your mba degree?
What was you major in undergrad?
I think mph is better for understanding hospitals and healthcare business
No it's not
you would be a really cool friend
Did you have to take the GMAT to get into this program? or was it a separate application?
Most likely, the GMAT or GRE are used for business schools. One must also apply separately to both schools.

This is the video I've been looking for, to finally solve my dichotomy of whether being neurologist or hospital administrator
