    I went from a BMW R 1200 RT LC to a Tracer 9 GT . Allthough you cant compere them, I have as much fun with the Tracer. My only issue is the wind protection on the Tracer. I’ve bought a Puig touring screen with a deflector, and this screen is much better than stock. By the way the price of a Tracer 9 GT with taxes in Denmark is 180000 dkr/ 24000Euro🙄.

    +1 on choosing the Tracer 9GT over the BMW. I found the Tracer had more than enough power so going for the BMW was pointless. The BMW was horribly expensive & only beats the Tracer with the instrument screen, the mouse wheel & phone connectivity. The Tracer 9GT is FAR cheaper, has unrivalled reliability, better fuel ecconomy & somehow has character while the BMW feels bland & "Meh!"
    The version of Tracer that I have is the 9GT so I get the semi active suspension, I found it harsher than the BMW but I adjusted it to suit my height/weight & now it's about the same as the BMW. Both have terrible seats, but the BMWs was worse for me. Tracer 9GT has a Quick Shifter & it is great, better than the BMW which is an expensive option. The Yamaha screen is crap, it is noisy & buffets my helmet, the BMW not so much but the Tracer is so much cheaper a new Vario screen is cheap & easy fixed.
    In short the BMW has better specifications but somehow the Tracer 9GT is just a better BIKE that you want to ride.

      Thanks for the insights! I'm glad you made your decision and are happy with it - that's the ultimate point, isn't it? I was curious to learn about your experiences and I see that some of the conclusions are generally in line amongst riders - like the Tracer's windscreen and both of their seats issues. The price difference can be astonishing at times. However, we've just learnt that BMW had the best sales year ever in 2021, so perhaps their increasing pricing is in general not an obstacle at all.

    Pytanie do bardziej zaawansowanych jeźdzców. Czy Tracer 9 nadaje się na pierwsze moto, do ćwiczenia techniki etc? Wiem, że Tracer 7 byłby rozsądniejszym wyborem, ale podobno dla osób powyżej 180 może być już mały a mam 186 i jestem krępej budowy. Czy jednak T9 jest zbyt mocny i agresywny?

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 года назад +1

      Nie widzę żadnych przeszkód pod kątem wyboru jako pierwszy motocykl. Pewne wady ma, ale niezwiązane byciem pierwszym motocyklem. Moim zdaniem to bardzo łagodny i płynnie reagujący motocykl. To 4-cylindrowiec, więc trudno mówić o niespodziewanej agresji jak np. mogłoby to mieć miejsce w przypadku 2-cylindrowców, które potrafią wyskoczyć spod tyłka jak się nieostrożnie ruszy manetką pokonując zwykłe rondo. Warto z Tracerem 9 uważać podczas manewrowania, aby nie przecenić swojego wyczucia motocykla. Mając 186 cm najpierw przeszedłbym się do salonu i wypróbował, czy umiejscowienie podnóżków jest OK, bo są raczej wysoko i siedzi się trochę jak na sportowym motocyklu moim zdaniem. Ja mam 183 cm i miałem pewien kłopot, aby obsługiwać np. tylny hamulec.

      I believe that there is no motorcycle seat that would be comfortable after riding 1000 km. Unless you're doing that in 5 hours at 200 km/h which I doubt. I'd take a car or just make my peace with a thought that my butt, hands, forearms and neck will be sore the next day after such a trip. • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 года назад

      That is an issue and I suggest first installing a wind deflector that may be attached to the original windshield. Clearly Yamaha is aware of the problem and instead of fixing it already, they offer you those deflectors as a separate, additional purchase. But you may also find them outside of Yamaha and they may potentially help. If not, then an aftermarket windshield may be another step here.

    I'm curious why you don't talk about maintenance cycles and whatnot when you do reviews or like comparisons. Because the maintenance on the Yamaha is significantly cheaper here in the United States than the BMW. I bought my Yamaha because the maintenance cycles were much longer and also significantly less expensive on top of that if you can get next to or even the same experience for the roads that you are on I would always go with the cheaper long-term route how are parts available to it what the maintenance cycles are etc

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 года назад +5

      Good points. There are two reasons for me not talking about maintenance intervals, how much annual services cost, what they include and how much it costs in addition. The first reason is that this varies a lot market from market, country from country, city from city and finally dealer from dealer, so I'd have to do it with a dealer. Of course the intervals and their contents cannot differ (perhaps except from the oil type itself), but prices to and in the end of the day that's what it's all about. The second reason is that I personally don't care about it much and would pay whatever it requires. If not at a dealer, then at an independent shop. When it comes to motorcycles, I wouldn't care about costs much as I ride for fun. With cars, that would be like 75% not important to 25% important depending on how much I'd be driving annually.
      For the similar second reason I don't talk about riding with a passenger - I just don't do it myself, so my point of view would likely be worthless. I hope that this explains it.
      But yeah, BMW may be more expensive to service and run in the long term. But then to stay fair we should also calculate fuel consumption and potential reliability records and how much the breakdowns were costing to fix on average. Cheers!

      Yeah, I think it could be possible to make such a deal, however I wouldn't do it as a 2018 BMW S1000XR is a different motorcycle suspension-wise and also the design, especially of the front face is different. I personally wouldn't go for that 1st generation XR from 2018. The new model was introduced in 2020 and this one is a much more comfortable motorcycle than the first one. I like its design much more too. I hope that this helps.

So, if i would want a powerful crazy adventure styled bike, i d get that-i allmost did. I am looking to replace my 2019 versys 1000 standard bike, with something else, that is sharper nimbler, more fun. Interesting that you're considering a Tracer coming off of a Versys 1000. I'd guess that they might be quite closely match and would wonder if Tracer 9 could be that much more sharp and fun. KTM should be brutal with that V2 engine.

      @@VToldsMotoShow well, the v1000 is q good bike. But a little too heavy, and the engine is to much cut down from what it does on the z1000sx for example. If they would have fitted better brakes and better suspension, and that 140 hp engine, well... That would have been soo interesting. 260 vs 220 kg, ttacer 9 is, so ligj in comparison. Handling is sharper and lighter, overall the engine is more fun, and you get more hp/kg. Yes, v1000 is better in terms of confort, and it goes like a train, inline 4 gives you that looong torque band. But i like triples, initially i was hoping to get a new, tiger 1200. But that is too expensive, compared to prvious gen. It is even more expensive than a gs if you compare the correct specced versions.
      And yeeees, v2 ktm is a beast, soo much fun, pull, torque, all is amazing. Except ktm ownership experience, that is a no no for me🙄

    I bought Tracer 9gt instead of the XR last June and 5k miles later almost all mountain roads I have really enjoyed it BUT as we have been rained in for days I started thinking again about the mighty XR lusting for that power and great brakes ...I even shopped and found a nice 2021 close by with everything I like at a great price ....the only hesitations are number one what to do with my like new Tracer? But secondly I worry the XR will be nimble enough because already I sometimes wish for something more nimble than the Tracer! Very frustrating when you cant get everything in one motorcycle lol ...Maybe I will just keep the Tracer and add an XSR900 for when I want to really tear up the canyons? Or else maybe add a Ducati 950sp hypermotard? Then it would make sense to have 2 bikes as opposed to the Tracer and XR with really would not make sense ...OR sell the Tracer buy the 950sp for canyons and the XR for everything else??

      I do feel your thoughts. There may be a compromise if you'd be ready to still sacrifice a bit of that high end power of S1000XR. Having a nimble bike for mountain roads that still can give you a solid punch makes me say the name of BMW R1250GS. I'm not kidding - it feels like Tracer 9 in the corners while being more stable and comfortable at speeds. And it's more powerful with plenty of torque at any range (here it beats S1000XR too). Maybe this would be the right solution?

    BMW S1000XR vs Tracer 9 GT, my take. As a pure bike...Tracer 9GT all the way. Lovely engine, great economy, fantastic reliability, well featured, a lo less expensive. BMW? On paper it looks fantastic, but somehow riding it was definitely "Meh!", lacked soul & didn't engage me like the Tracer did. As a bike, it ticks all the boxes....but at that price it should! Yes, the BMW is very, VERY expensive, not as reliable & when it does break down (which it will!) the servicing costs are just staggering. It beats the Yamaha on re-sale value, but because it's so expensive to begin with even the lower % rate of depreciation means you'll lose about as much as the Yamaha in actual $$s. Where the BMW does beat the Tracer 9 is in technology, almost entirely in the difference between the screen & connectivity...basically the BMW has a screen to be rightly proud of & the Tracer 9 has a screen that looks like Eugene Levy, complete with his famously heavy eyebrows. There's also no connectivity on the Tracer. Both of these points, IMO, as serious flaws & Yamaha needs to put them right in the next version. Other than that I'm Tracer 9GT all the way, not even if the BMW were the same rpice would I change my mind.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 года назад

      I enjoyed reading your feedback - very good view on the matter I think. I'm just wondering whether money-wise BMW is better. I'd guess without checking any used motorcycles offers, that one would lose a lot more on XR in any particular period of time as I don't think it necessarily holds its value extremely well and with a higher initial price, percentage-wise, it loses more every year. That's why on the other hand it may be such a great deal to buy those expensive cars and motorcycles used as they depreciate so much more in real cash. Thanks again for sharing your perspective! All the best!

    The only reason I went with the MT09 SP and not the MT10 or Tracer, is the punched in the face one blind eye design! I think it is a HORRIBLE design trend.
    For the exact same reason after a test ride on the 2020 S1000XR, I spit on it and told the sales man point blank: "I AM NOT BUYING THIS CRAP" just because of the one headlight look here in the US (oddly in your pictures the S1000XR seems to have both lights on - scratching my head)
    Shame on all bikes who continue to do this. I think it is cost cutting decision and I hope for this horrible act, they may lose $millions in sales! Additionally, what is the b.s. about every yamaha equipped with a terrible oem seat, while they always have a comfort seat in the catalog; reeks of miser-vulgarity towards the customer!
    My MT09 SP has a couple of defects that make me want to get rid of it; the instrument cluster gear-wheel on the right is terrible cheap-skate design. The front turn signal mount is also terrible design; just sneeze at the damn thing and it pops out of place! Then there is the turn signal switch placement, the non-intuitve placement of high low beam switch. The cheap pathetic fuel gauge which does not show any variation between full and 1/2 tank...smh

      I love the way you've described it all. As for the 2020 BMW S1000XR, this model year should've been looking like the one in the video as this is when the second generation was in production already. The dealer was showing you an older motorcycle - the 1st generation likely from 2019. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the bikes and I wish that manufacturers' representatives will see it as I'd like them to respond properly. To me the "one-eye" design would be a deal-breaker too as I'd constantly think about how it bothers me. Irrational decisions are often carried on due to historical reasons or exactly as you said - due to cost-saving. Perhaps it's both reasons for Yamaha here.
      Thanks again and all the best. You might be interested to check this current generation S1000XR that looks really nicely. I think it's the best looking bike in the whole segment now and the suspension is so much more comfortable when compared to that first generation, that the bike should suit plenty more riders nowadays. All the best!

    The highest compliment we can give to a brand is to spend our hard earned money on not just their product but the highest trim of that product especially when that product commands a premium price to begin with.
    The greatest trust I can give to a brand is to not just buy one or two of their high priced products but three of their highest price premium products.
    That’s why we voted with our wallet and just purchased my third BMW. A 2022 s1000xr in the highest trim with all the options including carbon fiber bits.
    The least respect I can show to a brand is to not consider any product they produced which is why I didn’t bother comparing anything Yamaha makes to the BMW motorcycles we have chosen over the years.
