    Eating a huge salad for breakfast is the # 1 thing that keeps me lean. I had to get rid of the tradition of starting everyday with processed carbs (bread, cereal, grains, bagels, muffins, waffles etc.). The salad keeps me full throughout the day, I can prepare it in the time it takes to scramble and egg, and it sets the tone for a healthy day, every day. Setting the tone is the most important aspect of achieving any goal.

    Big salad was a huuuuge factor in losing 50 lbs slowly over 6 months! Never felt deprived, I'd have small sides of protein and fat with them and subbed bread for ricecakes. Best way to do it, delicious and beyond filling!

    Hi Geoffrey, this is exactly what I found worked for me when I was trying to lose post pregnancy weight. I lost 50 lbs and felt so much healthier with this style of eating. What I love about it is how you can customize it according to your mood. I added jalapeños, olives, pinto beans, chicken breast and topped with sliced apple or orange. I thinned out hummus with lemon juice for dressing. Not boring!

    I would also highly recommend fresh herbs. Chopping fresh dill, cilantro, parsley, and rosemary (with scissors) makes a salad amazing and then all you need is a little grape seed oil and some pink Himalayan salt. So delicious! Thanks for the tip about the two head pizza chopper! ~N

    I do a similar salad. I warm up veggie stock and add a teaspoon of vegetable bullion for extra punch. I add coconut aminos, or Bragg's, add a variety of vegetables in the pot with Italian herbs. After a short simmer I pour it over a prepared leafy salad that has nuts/flaxseed, balsamic vinegar. Maybe; it's a bit wilted but wow, the flavours come out beautifully and on a cool winter night its warm and satisfying.

      Speaking of this, does this keep the chopped veggies from getting slimy?

    • @GeoffreyAlan
      @GeoffreyAlan  3 года назад +2

      Good question -- I put a piece of paper towel (or reusable kitchen towel) in the bottom of the containers that have damp foods in them (e.g.: cucumbers, bell peppers, etc.). Throughout the week as I use up the chopped veggies, I transfer them to a new, smaller container and replace the towel. They stay crisp and fresh for a full 7 days by doing this (in my experience).

      It's tough isn't it?! I was super skinny my whole life. I ate whatever and it didn't matter, then I hit my 30's and hello weight gain! I felt like I yo-yo'd back and forth but couldn't seem to get under a certain number. It was SO depressing! Recently I tried apple cider vinegar and probiotics. I know, there's not a lot of science behind it but I've lost ten pounds in two weeks. I just make a green smoothie with a Tbsp of ACV. I add a little honey to cut down the sour and I'm telling you, it does something to your appetite. I have one in the morning, a salad for lunch and drink another about an hour before dinner. I don't claim to know what exactly it does, but I'm FINALLY ten pounds away from my goal weight! I did read that our metabolism lives in our gut flora and ACV is a precursor to absorbing good bacteria? If you can stomach it it might be worth a try. Best of luck to you on your goals!

I hate to say it but I’m a middle aged woman who has put on 25 lbs in the past several months and have been stuck, not knowing how to begin my weight loss journey. Your videos struck a chord and has helped me with.focusing on a starting point! Tomorrow will be day 1 of my journey and I have you to thank!
    Quick questions:
    1) How many times per week do you shop?
    2) Did you only eat the 2 salads per day or do you also eat breakfast during your weight loss journey?
    3) How much did your groceries cost every week?

    • @GeoffreyAlan
      @GeoffreyAlan  3 года назад +1

      Congrats on starting your healthier eating journey!
      1) I did one big shop and one smaller shop per week. The 2nd trip was mainly for things I couldn’t fit in my fridge the first time or fast-usage items (eg salad greens and mushrooms)
      2) I ate 2 salads per day plus this green smoothie for breakfast ruclips.net/video/UOZYejxGr1A/видео.html
      3) I don’t think my grocery bill will be a good comparison because I use a delivery service and have NYC prices. But generally spending around $150/week on groceries - which is pretty similar to before starting this way of eating.

    I’m trying to switch to veggies and fish only. Your idea to chop most of your salad veggies ahead of time will help me a lot. I’m already eating mostly veggies, but it’s not life changing, so I am now convinced it’s the land animal meat that’s making me feel bad. I cannot find any research showing that fish is bad, so I’m gonna give it a go.

    I can't believe I've never seen the chopper/bowl combo by Oxo before, that's a great idea in and of itself! Note: You should put in an affiliate link to Amazon, I can guarantee you Geoffrey you'd get a lot of clicks! Also, I'm a BIG fan of eating salads, not only for losing weight, but it helps with the overall digestion/elimination of the food you've already eaten. I always have mine at lunch w/balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Homemade of course!

    People who think salad's a deprivation are crazy! I love salad and eat at least one daily whether it's a main dish or a side dish, and my friends always request that I make a salad when we have a "pot luck" or I'm taking a side dish to add to a meal.

    Amen. I read life changing book by Jennifer Garner's nutritionist Kelley Leveque. I think the book is called Body Love or something. The title is a little misleading because the content of the book is all very factual and it covers the methodology and science of why she has her celebrity clients eat the way they do. The cliffnotes version: "Fab Four Diet" = protein, fiber, fats, and greens at every meal. From whole sources. 3-4 meals a day. 16:8 intermittent fast. Stay away from starchy carbs and dairy (only have it VERY occasionally)....
    I tried out this Fab Four diet and I was literally seeing the scale drop by 1 pound every day. Im getting back into it in prep for my honeymoon in 7 weeks. Fingers crossed for good results!
