  • Often times we find ourselves living our lives constantly looking to garner the approval and validation of others. So much so that the school we choose, the spouse we marry, the cars we drive down to the shoes we wear are selected with this in mind. This fundamental part of us has its place, but what happens when we lose sight of who we are, and where we want to go? When the pleasure of others comes in direct conflict with the displeasure of Allah SWT?
In this thought-provoking episode, Idris and Abdikarrim speak from the heart on this very topic, sharing openly their own struggles in this regard, and how they are actively seeking to overcome them.
Discover how the pursuit of approval can lead to a loss of personal identity, erode self-esteem, and lead to a deterioration of one's values, and direction. With practical strategies and valuable insights, we discuss how to break free from the harmful cycle of seeking approval.
    We hope you enjoy it!

To be self aware is a gift from Allah SWT, so this episode is really thought provoking because we can easily fall into doing actions without even realizing our intentions are skewed. With my personal struggles, I found that remembering that people pleasing had to go because everyone else is unstable and never satisfied, but Allah SWT is always stable and to shift my people pleasing to “people pleasing” Allah SWT. Never have I felt more love towards myself and others. Alhamdulilah
On the music topic, one thing I heard from Ibn Al-Qayyim is “Never do the love of song and the love of Quran come together in a person's heart except one expels the other” at that moment, I knew that I didn’t wanna lose that connection with Quran for music that makes me feel crappy right after listening to it. May Allah SWT put baraka in the podcast and in your lives. JazakAllah Khayr for sharing your experience and thoughts.

Great episode guys! I forget which Shaykh specifically said it when answering the question of knowing when one is sincere and he said to check/remind yourself of the intentions before, during, and after whatever act. No matter how good it might’ve been, there’s still some shortcomings, as Allah is not in need of it and His Majesty deserves what we don’t posses- for His blessings to us is never comparable to anything we can do to show our appreciation. So you pray Allah accepts it with it’s shortcomings and hope out of His Rahma, He will and move on it from.

The blossom perspective that Abdi is trying to say, is like a level of success that an individual would feel satisfied with in all areas of life like Deen, materially or mentally,
But Idris you are more acknowledginh that it's about that daily resume, which should always be worked on and updated and working on your own timeline because of the work you put in and the fulfillment of growing regardless of what others are doing as long as your first and foremost is sincerely with Allah as the top priority.
But I agree with the daily resume mentality because you cannot live in dissatisfaction that I have yet to blossom because that can be a cause of grief when you see others 'blossom' while your path is much different and even may never be exactly what you desire as it may not even be written for you.
