Wingin’ It! Paul Lucas great video!!
yes, a new video!!!
Marvellous video, mate. Enjoy your stay in 🇧🇩, keep up the good work. Cheers
Paul, have you ever flown KLM?
Do visit India soon..
That's my wife and I in line at Peet's Coffee LOL. It was a pleasure to meet you in line at security that morning Paul!! Keep the great videos coming!!
Great video again Paul, you're probably my favourite travel youtuber, keep up the good work and I can't wait for more!
Rhodri Owen Thanks Rhodri! 👍🏻👍🏻
He is great definitely the most niche and honest
I agree!
@@Paul_Lucas A few years ago my family flew in and out of San Francisco Air Port and boy was it cool taking off and landing over the bay it's self
I'm glad you gave United another try. Loved the O'Hare shot!
Thank you your review I'm a flight attendant at United. I will send this to corporate. We merged and I want to believe its getting better I'm from the Continental side. 🤗
Paul, this channel has improved 10 fold, always looking for the best episode! Great job
I agree.. Paul you do a great job.. always enjoy watching your videos.
Let's be honest- everyone wants to be like Paul travelling around the world.
With a carbon footprint of Giants...(Joking)
Personally i'm a sceptic on the climate change thing to be honest!
@@69Phuket alright I guess
@@69Phuket wait so does that mean you don't thing climate change is real or something?
@@69Phuket Climate change definitely is real. But in my opinion, flying shouldn't be seen as such a sin, definately on long haul flights, as there's no alternative for fossil fuel. For electricity generation there's things like solar or wind, which could definitely sustain the world's energy consuption. But for flying, the only alternative is electric planes, which aren't sustainable at this point.
@@Uberhr The biggest advocates of "climate change" are these wealthy hollywood stars who fly around on their private jets creating a much bigger "carbon footprint" than most people
I fly United all the time. I think it’s perfectly fine so I’m glad they did a good job for you 🙂
Same. I have flown their A319, A320, 737, 757, 767 and trying their 777 soon. Have had all good experiences expect for one on them.
Aviation Enthusiast I’ve flown their A319/A320, 737-800/-900, 757-300, and 767-300. And I’m flying the 737-700 soon
EveryDay TripReports. Enjoy your 737-700 flight
Aviation Enthusiast thank you
same. I always fly the lax-ewr route on United, and Bur-Sfo
love your reviews on anything mate!
Huge like for this one!
Your experiences really show that even if the hard product is nearly the same (nearly same style seating in 757 vs 777), small improvements in the soft product can really make a difference.
From the reports I've read, it looks like United is focused on improving and expanding their premium cabins, and perhaps that is starting to show. Granted, economy passengers could be squeezed more but we'll have to see...
Decided that you are so good at travel reviews that I don't need to be subscribed to anyone else.
Great experience on United. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your thoughtful review.
I fly United 2-3x a month out of Denver and have always had great experiences. The updated 757 seating in business is actually pretty nice. The bulkhead on the left side have foot storage for your backpack. The 777 is always fun, I try to fly it as often as I can. Flying the 767 for the first time next month.
I think that was a fair review, I'm still not completely sold on United though.
I always fly United and touch wood never had an issue
United sucks
TheA320 Bullshit. I always fly from Europe to USA with United, enough legroom, decent food, most of the times a new cabin and a decent cabin crew.
i know why, because of it's motto: We seat you then We beat you.
Milly delta is soooo much better internationally and you’ll actually have crew that don’t hate their lives
Oh man Paul! You had me worried at the beginning of the video with flying United AGAIN! Hats off to you mate for giving them another try!
Sir Lemonpledge I think most wouldn’t fly with them again.
Your experiences are quintessential United. Inconsistency is the name of the game. When it’s good it’s good, but when it’s bad... oh boy
Having been a Former Purser Flight Attendant from United, I still like the United Airlines products...I still have a lot of friends that still fly as well. Well, you continue to fly safe...
Not travel related, but my Dad used to drink an Old Fashioned when he got home from work each eve. I never knew what was in one. Now I do! I really enjoy your videos Paul. I'm binge watching!
great video as always, glad to see united actually doing something about the food
good to see you giving United a second chance. and even better to see your feeling change
I had that same breakfast in United Biz about a year ago. It honestly was pretty good!
That looked so much better than the previous one. Don't think I'll be having spicy chicken for breakfast though!
I'll have spicy chicken any time of day or night
It was chorizo btw
i'll eat at the airport lol
great video but please net time let us hear the magnificent roar of the engines on takeoff sequence...
Hey Paul, really informative video. Three years ago we travelled United from Sydney to LAX for the first time, on the Dreamliner. Vegans in my family complained that chickpeas was all they got for the meals, and the windows were darkened straight after takeoff by the crew, which we could not control. I also flew United back from Newark to LAX on the return, and a faulty plane from SAN Francisco meant we left at midnight. They offered a $100 domestic travel voucher, but as I’m from New Zealand, this could not be redeemed. Not too impressed, would be keen to try Delta next time, as I’ve heard great things about their service and menu. Keep the cool vids coming, especially loved your review of the Stockholm to Lapland overnight train.
I’m happy to see United has improved its service and you had a better experience!
I personally won’t give my business to United.
I am a big Delta fan and can’t wait to see your next video!
Thank you for the review!
Ditto. I've had too many bad experiences with both United and American. They don't treat their handicapped passengers well at all! Delta, on the other hand, always treats me like a princess, no matter which class I'm flying, and they take the greatest of care with me. They've more than earned my loyalty.
@sanitman1 Seriously?! I've been to Hartsfield. It's a super-nice airport! As preciously stated, Delta ALWAYS treats me like a princess, no matter what class I'm flying. The flight attendants, whether male or female, have always treated me with the utmost respect and kindness, because I am always polite and kind to them. I also dress decently; I don't look like I just crawled out of the dumpster, like so many do. That's what gets me treated well. You might try being nice to them first.
Brilliant pictures of O'hare and the lake. As a Chicago surburbian, it's a treat to find my house and community college somewhere in the film!
Yes, out of the Chicago, Illinois O'Hare, United has the afternoon flight to Paris, France on the 777-200. I have Next to the 747s, the 777s are great to fly....I am glad you had a great time...
Awesome for you to give them another chance. I can’t they’re horrible in all of my experiences with them. Safe travels . Can’t wait for another video
I love them, just flew them on a 787-8 from Denver to London 2 weeks ago. I was in economy, and for the first 2 hours, they were serving dinner and dessert. After that, they dimmed he lights, and let people sleep, but were still available if needed. Then, about 1.5 hours out from landing, they served breakfast, and handed out landing cards. I used my own device for entertainment, selection was great, I watched frozen for the first time on the way over, and Moana for the first time on the way back. Didn’t check any bags, so can’t say anything about that. The worst part of the trip was the 2 hour line at passport control when we got there.
I've only travelled with United a couple of times, and that was years ago! The first was to Australia, via LA, we were economy from London to LA and upgraded from LA to Melbourne to what was then called, Connoisseur class! It was very comfortable!. The next flight was London to New York, economy class and free , (£54 tax) because our return flight to Australia accrued enough points to qualify for a flight to USA! Only seem to fly BA these days!
I am a huge fan, you are done a fantastic job... or as you guys say...Brilliant ...keep going....love from the U.S
Hey Paul thanks for uploading always love your work. You asked us for our thoughts on United and as a person who flys them most of the time I always have a good experience. I normally travel in economy though and for the price and service they offer it seems to always get the job done right.
Your awesome Paul, you report the facts and they are true "reports" and your not smug and conceded and bragadocious about it like so many other youtube travel review channels.
The nose shot of a 777 is one of my favorite views in aviation
Are you planning to review the Brightline Trains (Virgin Trains USA) in Florida anyime soon? 😁
Yes, it will be coming out rather soon!
I have not flown United in anout 40 years but I am not a particular fan. I would like to give them another go soon.
I just noticed that you're uploading in 4k. Good stuff! Even though I watch RUclips on my PC I can't use anything over full HD but what makes many videos much better, especialy when the camera pans or walks around is a higher frame rate.
Another great report mate. Never flown with United as they dont have too many routes down under, but since we are off to Canada and Alaska later in the year Ill have to check out your reports on Alaskan. Also have to have another look to see if you've anything more on San Francisco as getting back to Auckland from Fairbanks has turned out into a bit of a mission. Look forward to your next report...save travels.
I've been watching trip reports and reviews or whatever you wanna call them for about 1 year now,and my top 3 goes as follows.1.paul lucas.2.jeb Brooks. And 3.nonstop Dan. I'm a huge plane nut however I've only ever been on 1 plane.in 1986.from Southampton to Jersey. Yeah I flew half way around the world didn't I. Lol.but thanks to these videos when I do eventually do get the chance and privilege to fly,I know who the best airlines are and that's deffo a brucie bonus.✈👍
Hi Paul
A great video report, I liked the idea of a quick seat change just before boarding to test their customer service. The seats looked good but the food not so good. I flew with United and I complained via email and got a personal email back from the cabin manager apologising for the poor service but what great customer service with a reply from the cabin manager.
Looking forward to seeing your next trip report.
Kind regards
DS
Great video! I would suggest mentioning that it is a 777-200ER as the 777-200 (non ER) is in a high density domestic configuration.
Chris Pinto I searched the Tail # and found this:www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b777-35547.htm
I fly round trip between Beijing and D.C once every year with United. If I remember right, my first flight was a Boeing 777, then it changed to 787. the dreamliner is comfortable and a wow at start, but it's showing its age after about 4 years. Everything about United Ive experienced is they do everything just right, and that's it, no more and maybe less.
I love United. They were the first flight I remember having. BUT, I have never flew with them in economy. Only economy plus.
Nice video! Breakfast did look creative and yummy. I too had a good experience on UAL recently to Bogota... it appears that they are trying to get it together again....
I see the aircraft is named after the man who was CEO at Continental Airlines!! A POSITIVE review about United...a rarity indeed. I assume the crew were up to the job! Really enjoy flying with you Paul and I look forward to the Delta flight !!
Oh I recently flew on a UAL B777-200.
Hey Paul, thanks for another cool video, I really appreciate the effort! I took a United 777-200 (without the ER) from SFO to IAD 2,5 years ago and thought it was okay; nothing special though. These "classic" 777-200 do get old now, but I still like them.
Always look forward to your videos! You are by far my favorite travel youtuber!
awesome video Paul! great shot of the More to Love Alaska A321!! :)
I love watching your reports and this is another great video. Wish I could afford to fly a lot more like you, such an amazing world out there. Thanks for sharing your adventures
Great to see your satisfied with United again.
Paul, I once only flew United 2000 - 2014 but toward the end they went downhill. I have heard that they are still a hit or miss depending on your flight. I did like there code-share partners and still do. It was a good review but since you had a few bad experiences with them, not sure this fixes the bad ones. Thanks
Great review Paul. I'm glad you got a 2-2-2 configured 777 instead of a 2-4-2, especially after all United has put you through. There's nothing like walking on a plane, turning left toward business class, and seeing a row of 8 seats across!
Yeah I'm flying that aircraft to and from Hawaii in the Fall! I suppose it's a little better than the 3-4-3 arrangement in the back but still...
Friends don't let friends fly United - lol. But this did look a lot better than last year's experience with them, and you really can't go wrong with a 777...
At this point I think United has improved enough in the last couple years that American is now the worst of the US legacy carriers.
The newest CEO of United addressed the problems the airline had and apparently has taken steps to get them in line. Lets hope this continues.
I now avoid American like the plague. Payed more for an exit row seat with extra legroom was narrower than a regular middle seat. Last flight, after an hour delay for an equipment change, they pumped the fuel into the wrong tank. Another hour without a/c onboard while they pumped the fuel into the wing tanks. So far so good with United the past three years, knock on wood.
Too true. I have never had a good experience with United, not a single one. American is not much better. I understand constant delays are air traffic and airport capacity problems, and cancellations are network problems. And I can't really eat in the air, so I don't care that they only have peanuts and water on board in stearage. But do their cabin crew have to be so damn rude and inconsiderate? Forget service with a smile. These days I'll be a happy camper if I get one without a scowl.
Great review Paul. I'm a bit nervous flying United, just because they've had some mixed reviews. However I will be flying with them in just over a month from MSP- LIH via SFO. I enjoyed your review and I"m glad you had a better experience this time around. I will also have the privilege of using the club lounge. How as it when you used it? Again thanks for sharing.
This is a fabulous video Paul I’m really impressed with your flight experience hope you had a great flight. ✈️👍😊
Amazing video Paul
As a long. Time viewer I saw your other experiences with united and have been scared of flying them but it looks like an overall good flight
Another great report. Excellent detail as usual.
Would love to see an Air transat trip report! There's not a lot of it on RUclips! And since they might merge with air Canada soon It be fun :) but thanks for your videos it's always nice to watch ! Greetings from Montreal!
One of my biggest complaints about United is that passengers are not allowed impromptu seat upgrades (e.g. main cabin to the exit row) when the seats are unoccupied. Every time I’ve tried, the flight attendants have explained to me (after the cabin door has been closed and armed) that those seats are reserved for passengers who paid more, and if I wanted that seat I should have paid for it...
Not really related to your video at hand, but that’s bothered me about United ever since I started flying with them.
Cedar Rapids!! I live just south from there, about 20 minutes car ride. If you ever land there look me up I’ll come and give you a tour!
Brilliant trip-report as always - one of the best aircraft for engine sound; GE90 ( 5:44 )!
Well, since you asked...:) I felt United had become a bit busily commercial on my last two flights. But no complaints other than aesthetics.
I used to hate United and and thought their product was terrible and the flight attendants were rude. The last flight I took was a flight a booked literally 12 hours before take off from LAX to MCO in economy plus for around $400. It was a very pleasant flight with an excellent cabin crew! It was on a 737-800. That experience will make me consider United on a future flight.
Just a quick hint on the WiFi: last year I could use Google Maps without paying for a data package, even over both big ponds! Nice to have so you can explore the city/area you’re going to visit beforehand
Nice flight. I am flying transcontinental to Newark in late June, on my way to Germany and Switzerland.
I’m getting on this same exact plane and flight in September
I would guess the power plugs are inconvenient to plug into because it's a sleeper chair where the devices being recharged need to be out of the way of your legs. They need to be ahead or behind because on the side, if you want them and their cords out of the way, you're trying to plug in prongs to a plug where they are both at an angle from your view.
Thanks for mentioning Cedar Rapids!! That’s where I live!!
I enjoy your reports very much. They are informative and accurate, since I was at the same airports flying the same airlines... Maybe you should try Lufthansa again. You were so unlucky with your flight from London to Frankfurt last year. Several years ago I was at the Munich lounge of Lufthansa and quite impressed. It connected modern sculptures with the contemporary Bavarian folklore as well as a modern aircraft to New York. Enjoy Bangladesh. (Hope my English is ok!)
I just flew IAD-NRT and back on one of these aircraft......Granted in Economy. I mean it got the job done so I can't really complain. Food was meh but the service was nice. Also helped I had the row to myself on the inbound and an empty middle seat on the outbound
The sad part is Paul, that flying, in my opinion, isn't what it used to be. Regardless of what airline you fly. For those of us who flew frequently in the 1960's and 70's, flying was an adventure. Men wore suits and ties, women wore dresses. Stewardesses, now known as flight attendants, would greet you when you entered the airplane, take you hat and coat and hang them up, and escort you to your seat. They would have plenty of time to sit with you, offer your children a trip to the cockpit, get them airplane wings, and possibly a small model airplane. Food was absolutely delicious, served on real plates, with real knives and forks. Blankets and pillows were handed out, along with reading material. Pilots would point out interesting sights along the way. No, flying isn't what it used to be. Unfortunately...
5:18 Pictured here back-to-back, two of my most recent flight sim flights: Alaska's More to Love livery on an A320 series, and IcelandAir's 767-300ER out of San Francisco. :)
8:11 Wow, you can say that again!
Paul you need to record the GE90s spooling up not have music, otherwise I love your vids........
Another Great video Paul!! just one thing, you said that the 777 is regularly used as part of the transcon fleet, maybe sparsely but Not generally. 90% of the time you are going to get a narrowbody 737 or A320 going cross country.
There are no transcon 737 or A320s on the “true” transcons with PS though. United doesn’t consider any other routes transcon.
Aloha e Paul no Hawai'i Nei! You asked for comments on United. I probably can't contribute much since I've flown United only 5 times in the past 15 years. (Well, 5 round trips with a zillion take-offs and landings.) All flights were between Honolulu and Yap in the Western Caroline Islands, amounting to about 50,000 air miles. My last Island Hopper flight to Guam 3 months ago was pure torture. Because of delays and bad weather, through passengers like me were kept cooped up in that B737 for 14 hours! This time we weren't allowed to get off at the many stops to stretch our legs as is normal. Thank God I was seated up front and had access to many beers! I've flown this route for 43 years now. Unfortunately, United has never provided the friendly service and comraderie which were hallmarks of the pre-merger Continental Air Micronesia flights. Still, I hope that some day you'll be able to experience this unique and fascinating air route. If you ever get the chance, please contact me beforehand. (I'm a patreon guy.)
Great video Paul. I'm pleased it was better than your previous experiences with United. I've flown United a couple of times, both were ok.
Do you ever get free upgrades to Business Class on any of your trips?
I haven’t had a free upgrade for a year or two now.
Looking nice....Yes, the 777-200 are nice....
I’ve always flown United in Economy both Trans-Atlantic from Manchester and internally. Both products were broadly similar although I don’t like going stateside on a 757 as they’re just too cramped for me. The food I’ve generally found pretty awful, especially compared to comparable flights with American and Aer Lingus. However the staff were always great. Sadly my experiences of BA mean I won’t use them unless I have no choice.
In more recent times I always prefer to fly from my local airport (Leeds/Bradford is just 15 minutes door to door) and have started to use connecting flights from there via Heathrow or Dublin to expand the options of flying stateside. KLM is another option via Amsterdam). I wouldn’t say that United are off the radar as I find them ok but there are better carriers out there for me.
Hi Paul, I am a United Airlines Captain and have enjoyed your reviews on both us and our competitors. I am sorry that you did not have a good experience on some previous UAL flights, but pleased to see that this flight was a big improvement. We are working hard on improving and 'getting where we should be.' Thank you for Flying the Friendly Skies, and next time you fly with us, please stop by the flight deck before or after landing. We would love to have you as a visitor and show you around.
That you have is the one of the best videos out there
As someone who flies all the time in the US, my preference is Southwest or Delta. I prefer Southwest for my more regional flights and Delta is for coast to coast routes.
Alaska is pretty good as well if you're flying in the west. JetBlue is great for flying to/from the east coast. My usual go to is Southwest for shorter flights, because I tend to pack hiking gear with me which requires a checked bag. I prefer Delta for longer flights as SWA has no power outlets or food.
@@mrvwbug4423 That's a good point regarding power outlets on Southwest. I live on the East Coast and travel to the Midwest and South with Southwest, so it's not bad for me. My laptop and phone will hold a charge.
I am not a fan of United. Try the passenger experience of Basic Economy. "Can I change my seat please away from the window, I get a little claustrophobic?" - Completely ignored.
Another great video Paul.
Great Video Paul, keep it up !!!!
Since moving to SF from Atlanta, I've been trying to hold on to my SkyTeam allegiance....travel to Europe and back to the East coast has been do-able, but upcoming travel to the Australasia region has me thinking that I might be better off on Star Alliance. #highclassproblems
Looking forward to Delta! Good video, this one. Surprised to see United making an effort!
As I am from Scandinavia and use SAS I think United is the best option for codeshare flights for example
Great video.
You should try their new Polaris class on the 777-300 or 200ER, 767, or the 787-10
The food on this flight did look good Paul. Glad you had a better experience. I still resent United offering meals for purchase on an 8 hr non-stop from IAH-HNL. They ought to try that stunt on all their international flights that are lengthy and see how it goes over. They are very stingy on their portions. I just watched another review and the salad seemed to be one piece of red lettuce and some corn. They really don't care about offering a good product if the seats are full. Happy customers are not one of their priorities.
Should try American's Flagship First or Flagship Business product on their A321Ts.
I fly United Transcon 2-3 times a year. I will always prefer the 757 over the 777 (unless the new Polaris seats are present.) I know the 757 are outdated and have shown some wear and tear, but I like the feeling of a more personalized cabin.
The meals have been hit or miss, I am continually disappointed with the beef option. I’ve had better entrees on domestic first than I’ve had on this route.
love your videos, keep up the good work!
Later on this year Im going to have to take the redeye from SFO to ORD, It leaves about 11:10pm on a 777. I wanna fly first class on my outbound. If you wanna meet up and take the trip with me hit me up.
I really like your reviews! Lots of other reviewers would have been looking for the problems previously experienced but I like your ability to see past it!
I also like the balance of your reviews, finding the perfect balance between good and bad!
Good work! Keep it up!
Great Video, shame about the downgrade onto the 777 though. The new Polaris product looks like it blows this out the water, especially as it's 1-2-1
I love how happy you are in the thumbnails. The smiling makes me want to click!
My best united flight was from Denver to San Diego. But, Delta provides a consistently good experience. It is more expensive though.
Yeah, but Delta is worth it!
I wish someone would do a coast to coast trip using only regional airlines. For example LAX to NYC, no mainline aircraft. Not sure if it would even be do-able.
