- let's open some lucky bags together! If you don't know, lucky bags (or fukubukuro) are sold at the beginning of the year to clear out some old stock. since they've become so popular, a lot of stores will make goods specifically for their lucky bags like mister donuts, McDonalds, etc, instead of simply reselling unsold stock! if you ever buy a lucky bag, you should definitely try to find one of those instead!

The Afternoon Tea one seems SO worth it. So much stuff that you can use for a while.
For the concert tape, it's common for concerts in Japan to have special confetti strips designed with the concert logo/date/artists signatures printed on them, usually for idol (or anime etc) concerts! It's a great way take a little memorabilia home from an event, I wish concerts in USA put more effort into their confetti rather than the plain basic ones LOL

I really liked the Moomin bag cause I love little pouches (the hand creams nice too); but I agree, most people would find it a bit disappointing
Oh my goodness, these are all so cute but I especially love the dog design for the Afternoon Tea bag. I actually bought one of those Sanrio mask holders thinking it was a little folder... I use it to organize small sheets of stickers and notes so they don't get damaged in my purse/handbag :)

The tea bag seems like the only one worth the money to me. Although some of the other items were cute, they were mostly just knickknacks that would add clutter to my house without being particularly useful.
that kuromi keychain for a piece of confetti would be so cute to store my bts concert confetti/streamers in! ahhh i'll be on the look out for one of those

So much cute things, I wish america did this type of stuff. I would use the stuff I didn't like or got extra as for gifts. I would stuff the pouches with candy with the real gift attached to it. I would definitely get the tea/food one again.

I missed out on getting Moomin Shop Hawaii’s bag. By time I remembered on the 1st they were sold out. I love getting Moomin house items. You could use the extra pouches as gift wrap/instead of a paper bag… I guess?
Most of the import beauty stores in the states that did bags did them for XMas this year for some reason, when I went for new years nobody was selling them weird enough. (All of the items inside this year were pretty good.)
Mr. Donuts’ bag is always the best deal if you eat enough donuts lol. I feel like I would bring a dozen donuts to every club/obligation/event if I had the 50 donut coupon as an easy way to make new friends lol
I have the cupcake pouch for the sanrio bag, it’s also for a tiny plushy, (in the front pocket) and doubles as a coin purse. It’s made for a specific one with a small body, but I just shove my smallest Purin plush in it, and it stays in because he’s round. I feel like they underestimate how many people want Purin bags.

it's just called afternoon tea! it's a chain, so there are many locations including one in Shibuya!
I don’t think the pikapika bag 2023 is worth to international buyers (129 usd) Because I saw their opening and the inside of box did not have much stuffs.
For people who live in in Japan it will be worth to get one

not really a fan of Moomin, My Melody and Pokemon (please don't attack me) so i'm okay not getting any of them. regarding the Moomin fukubukuro, questionable why they have so many pouches but then again, you can always give them away coz at least they're useful. meanwhile, the My Melody one has so many cute stuff but the designs are too...out there? i'll cringe from seeing too much pink. i like that they have a My Melody plushie though since i am a sucker for plushies. The Misdo fukubukuro may be the cheapest one but all items are good and of course, the voucher for me is equivalent to "big item." 😆 the Afternoon Tea fukubukuro ☺️ that's more up my alley. the adult in me is singing in glee seeing all those items 😁
the houseware/clothing lucky bags are definitely more worth it than character bags, but these are so much more fun to open haha

I noticed a lot of these products are in English…are English Language products popular, especially with these type of stylized, really Cute products? Especially among non-English speakers in your country? Just curious…
So these are kinda like American Mystery/Subscription Boxes, or Loot Crates, I am guessing? (that is, a random collection of neat stuff that is a mystery to you until it arrives but all themed around one pop culture subject?)
Hmm kinda, it's a new years tradition where shops (used to) stick random stuff that did not sell the previous year in a bag and sell them blind for a big discount. So that they have space for new items to sell. And they started it in new years for 1. good luck and 2. because the kids got their new years money to spend around these days.
Nowadays the companies still sell blind bags with random stuff only roughly ordered sometimes (like houseware, stationary, clothes) but they also produce things for lucky bags - like the donut ones here or they mix like the 2023 Melody plush together with random stuff. And the character or anime lucky bags are very similar to loot crates, but imho you get more stuff in the lucky bags due to the incredible competetivness around new years in japan for these.
And there are also very useful bags, like 5 pairs of nice socks for 10$ or quality coffee or imported groceries or alternative clothes for a bargain.
One of the best parts is opening the bags with friends and exchanging stuff.
Mirabelle explained it perfectly! clothing lucky bags are usually pretty popular as well, like Adidas, where they'll sell you 5-6 pieces of clothing based on size. A lot of brands will let you know ahead of time what some of the main items in the bag are, so it's usually not a complete mystery anymore!

This sounds like a Really cool tradition that we had, sort of, here in the USA…It was a pity that most of these either died out from lack of interest or just low quality products, because, when they first started, it was a Really fun phenomenon, while it lasted…
