Somewhere In Hollywood

- Over the years I've performed the odd song or two with #GrahamGouldman's touring version of #10cc but when he asked me to sing #SomewhereInHollywood for their tour I balked. It's a complex song and a bastard to perform live so I re - recorded the vocal to minimal instrumentation and made a film of myself singing so the band could accompany that on stage. Naturally I ended up throwing in a few visual enhancements as the thought of a 20 foot close - up of my face fills me with horror.

Kevins voice is, in many ways - the soundtrack of my youth. He's got the most wonderful and exiting voice - and his singing really impresses and touches me.
Thank you!
In my opinion Somewhere in Hollywood is one of the greatest songs EVER made, a true classic of music and storytelling. It's such a treat to have this contemporary version!
I completely agree. This song, Somewhere in Hollywood, and it's parent album, Sheet Music, are in my top five of all time. Kevin Godley has such a beautiful and expressive singing voice. Love him and 10cc's original line up.
Man I wish these guys would make one more album.
or '10 more out of 10'
It'll never happen. Eric Stewart's has been done with 10cc for the last 25+ years, and Graham's said that he won't do a new album without the original lineup, most of whom are not on speaking terms. In fact, it was making a reunion album, "...Meanwhile," that killed them for good. After that, Eric and Graham didn't even record 10cc's final album in the same studio as each other.
2013 it was the closest they came to a reunion. Check out Eric's book, so close but " gone with the wind"
I assume you mean Godley and Creme and not 10cc.
Yeah it would take a miracle to have the four of them appear together again. Graham and Kevin obviously still work together, while Eric and Lol keep in contact since they are in-laws. Graham & Eric aren’t on speaking terms and I haven’t really heard much about Kevin & Lol interacting with each other since 1989.
Kevin that was marvelous. You sound as good as you did in 1974 or perhaps even better. You are a class act and you made the sound of my youth. Thank you Sir!
Saw 10cc at Apollo Stadium in Adelaide in the 70's. Loved them then, still do. Both collectively and individually. So talented. They had such contrasting and complimentary talents. Thank you gentleman for providing colour in my life.
Kevin STILL has an golden voice! Hope they perform " Don't hang up" 😍
Wow, a pearl has been found. A fresh, and very rare, new video on a timeless, wonderful song. Also nice to hear an authentic new recording of it by the man himself. More please - the classic 10cc catalogue is wonderfully rich for this concept and my mind salivates at the potential videos for those songs...
Oh my God, That was LIVE??? Outstanding, excellent, fantastic! Kevin does indeed sound as great as ever!
It wasn't live, do read the description carefully. It was recorded for the purose of being played back live and accompanied by Graham's 10CC during their concerts along with the film.
@@4ctmam Ah. In other words, purose.
I always loved this song. Every member of 10cc could sing but Kevin Godley probably had the best voice of all. They get some recognition now but still not enough.
such a beautiful song that has stayed with me since i first heard it in the 70s. also feel very honoured to have recorded in the same studio where this was created. thanks, strawberry.
Magnificent. Always a unexpectedly touching song but this moved me to tears. Thank you, Kevin.
I'm back, I can't get enough of this version! 10cc were the sound of my youth. I'm Not In Love was played at my wedding.
I won their first LP in a Radio Clyde competion, I have bought every one since. I saw them live in 74-76 three times, I have seen Graham Gouldman's 10cc band three times, just not enough tbh, just not enough...
I have a dream that the original four will one time do another concert...one can only dream.
I interviewed Graham & Eric for an FM Radio programme in Newcastle, Australia back in about 1982. Eric was gracious but listening to the tape years later, I'm surprised the interview lasted as long as it did because all I could ask about was Godley & Creme who had departed 10cc some years earlier!
Incredible song and Godleys voice is amazing!
thank you!
Kevin you still have a beautiful voice after all these years
What a gift of a voice. When I was a kid in the early 70’s my older brother played Sheet Music a lot. I was enthralled by the voice that I later realised was Kevin’s. So very unique and beautiful. Can you imagine opening your mouth and having such a captivating voice. ❤
Brilliant!....The best Song On Sheet Music....Thank you for Sharing Kevin.
Might just be my favourite 10CC song. Blows me away every time!
So fantastic to hear that song again, so brilliant, never mentions Marilyn’s name once. Take note messers Taupin and John 😉
Your voice has not diminished at all, i look forward to your new album, i am a pledger.
One of those one in a million vocalists - just like another favourite of mine - Gerry Rafferty.
Thank you Kev, beautiful song, my favourite ever 10cc. A cinematic song in more ways than one !
Thank you!
I have just happend to reach this vodeo today !! Hello again♪ Old Kevin-san and I come to old too. But your voice still remains clean, beautiful and amazingly heart-waoming ♪♪♪♪ 💕 You sing a song and it really reminds me of those nostalgic days when I used to listen to 10CC albums every day such as Soundtrack ,How dare you or so on. Love you forever more 💜 Thanks so much for having made my youth days so rich and happy , Ken from JAPAN🎌
I actually find this better than the album version. What an achievement! Video is great too.
What a voice made of smooth velvet! It embraces your ears and soothes your soul! I am lucky to enjoy this voice for decades now...
Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic ❤❤❤❤❤❤👍💯👏👏👏👏👏👏
Was just doing some research on this song and stumbled upon this gem, the more I learn about 10cc, the more I am amazed by the talent that just oozes from them.
Sublime and decidedly fresh. Gem of a song and gem of an idea to re- hash it. Kevin has the voice that angels will barter for. Bless you Kevin, for showing how a voice can work in so many ways.
How did I miss this! It brought me to tears! Genius!
Impressive! I always thought Kevin was the best vocalist in 10cc. It's a crime he never got the respect both he and Lol deserved from Eric.
Eric thought them superb vocalists: Lol was effectively lead singer on the first album, and Kevin on the second.
yeah Larry, what the fuck u blathering about, son
Nonsense. It was clear that all 4 were great vocalists. Doubt very much that Eric couldn't see the othe 3 were just as good as him.
Absolutely stunning - I am awash in 10cc now and adding in Kevin & Lol's work - Liam Newton's recent book is a must for fans - thanks for this
Time for the 10cc catalog to get the 5.1 treatment.
That would be great.
This song hasn’t dated a bit, probably my favourite from Sheet music. Kevin has done a brilliant job with it.
Incredibly good! So in love with this man’s voice!
Magic
Thank you! 10 cc gave me a lot of beautiful memories
Stunning voice and visuals as we've come to expect form this Master of both. If there was ever a voice to raise the hairs on the back of my neck it was that of Mr Kevin Godley. From 10cc's 'One Night in Paris' to this. Wow Kevin, you've done it again!
Oh man. Memories of hearing this first in 1974 and seeing the classic line-up twice. What a song. What a band much missed x
Always one of my favourite 10cc songs, loved the way you did it, and it's especially poignant now that Hollywood has been devastated and will never be the same after this crisis. Thanks Kevin!
Kevin Godley's voice is often very ethereal. He sounds as if he could have been a Cantor.
I've always been fascinated by 10cc's vocal diversity. I wish more was written about the remarkable interpolation of sonic quality derived from three Jews and a Gentile.
My entire life would have been different (completely and utterly) without 10CC - back in the days when (as a student) albums cost half me wages as a weekend waitress, I wore them out, had them as inspiration on days of little brain activity, went into short dreams of the stories told in them and created my own. Got a job, got married and took them with me where ever I went. Songs like this one are still incredibly relevant
Well said. I was a student as well. In 9th or 10th grade. It was infuriating when all my friends were listening to top 40 garbage and I had 10cc all to myself.
Kevin...how come I've only just found this...totally amazing...😮🎉🎉
I've only just come across this wonderful version of a great 10cc song . I don't know about anyone else of my age ( 68 ) but I feel so lucky to have been around in the 70s and hear quality musicians like 10cc. Thanks Kevin .
Thank you!
I was 6 when this was released and I think I was about when 7 or 8 when I listened to it properly. I don't remember it being 6 mins long, but I still remember it being brilliant, and it still is
This is simply perfect...
Brilliant. An absolute classic.
This is absolutely gorgeous. Your voice is still in amazing nick and this is a delight to behold.
Cheers Kev, mate.
A wonderful bit of prog rock from a criminally underrated group. Didn't even know this video was around. Still have the original album. Great music.,great days
Thank you!
Wow... I love this song and now i have goosebumps all over again... This is AMAZING. Thank you Mr. Godley
Absolutely beautiful!
Wow--your voice is still amazing! Thanks for sharing this video with your long-time fans. I loved this song and still do.
Great 10CC track, always loved that line ups great range of song writing, and Somewhere in Hollywood is right up there. Great video Kevin. Hope to see that one day soon.
Thank you Kevin for keeping your great music still alive!
Just discovered this channel. Fantastic. I wore out Ismism when I bought it. Great songs like Ready for Ralph are still in my playlist today.
Holy crap Kevin, your voice is better than ever! And it was brilliant back in the day. Great vid too
A beautiful track, off a beautiful album, thank you Kevin. Brings me back to 74, a 14 year old who fell in love with 10cc and Kevin and Lol in particular. Music is the best.
One of my favourite 10CC songs sounding even better than the original 45 years on. Kevin, you are a legend!
Wow what a fabulous version - and your voice Mr Godley is absolutely exceptional
I just found this on RUclips. It was great seeing Kevin on this vid. I have the album "Sheet Music" which I bought in 75 after I had first gotten the "Original Soundtrack" and then I heard this track and I used to get the goosebumps when I listened to this with the chord switches, the vocals, the harmonies, and the panoply of visions which the song creates about Hollywood. Wow. Fantastic. A piece of genius . This to me is a classical piece. Thanks for creating something beautiful !
Absolute brilliance!
Absolutely wonderful, Sheet music is such a great album. And such a pleasure listening to someone who really can song naturally. Wonderful version of this great song. And the voice is as good as ever. Looking forward to buying the album this coming December. Both on vinyl and cd.
Wow, Kev! Having been listening to the original version for over forty years, this new recording has blown my mind. With the music charts full of Auto-Tune corrected vocals and digitally-created loops that play homogenised music written by banks of song-writers (insightfully predicted by you and Lol in 'Business is Business' all those years ago), it is so encouraging to know that you are still working your silky-smooth voice for our entertainment. Thank you so much!
Thank you Kevin. Amazing song, and accompanying video.
A terrific song that continues to hold and grow with age whilst displacing earlier, more popular ones. Would surely appear on the album of the 10 best songs by 10CC - in my book at least.
What a great voice, especially for his age! Sounds like a much younger man. Loved 10CC and he certainly added a great deal to their sound.
What a voice......criminally underused !
Wonderful voice.
Amazing! What an incredible talent. His works withstands the test of time.
Kevin, I can’t believe your voice hasn’t changed - you still sing like a choirboy so beautifully. This is a stunning so but absolute favourite track of yours (along with Under Your Thumb which still makes me shiver) is the Lost Weekend, that is sheer vocal and production perfection👍🏻🌟🌟🌟❤️
A wonderful rendition of a classic song. THANK YOU Mr. Godley
Thank you!
This is a remarkable song. It really sparks of The Original Soundtrack. Everything about this song works. Fantastic songwriting, wonderful vocals. I am seriously moved by this piece. Wonderful!
Beautiful voice. You four were astonishing together. Such a wealth of ideas, the total sum being quite incredible. Miss you all so much. No one to touch you. No one.
One of the greatest songs ever made❤
Brilliant. How about a video for The Stars Didn't Show? Such a superb song and great vocal.
Love that song, one of the best from that album.
Album came out when I was in hi school, literally wore it out in 6 months, & bought another. 📽This one was always one of my faves. Your still sounding so fine 👍👍thank you very much for the great perfomance and making it available for your die hard - long term hard core 10cc fans
"hi school"? Didn't graduate, huh? The rest of your post proved that to be the case.
Awesome
I just noticed how much better the drums are on this version. So much more powerful. Just a better recording?
Still got it Kevin. This is wonderful!
That voice. Amazing as always.
Thank you so much!
Iconic
Wonderful
Très belle mélodie, i love this music. Bravo pour Mr Godley pour avoir servi l’art
this is awesome! Thank you!
Kevin you are brilliant and beautiful. This is the soundtrack to my life . You still have the voice of an angel. I would give my left kidney to sing with you. Sallyanne xx
My goodness that was amazing.
What a superb performance.
Smooth as ever Kevin
I'd go on for ages describing how your music and that of 10cc shaped my music tastes since 1972. Teenage years and later. I'll never forget the How Dare You album remark "Very 10cc, very wonderful". Need I go on? Goose bumps on back of neck still occur.
Brill! Inventive - as one would expect. I love the 'Somewhere' not followed by the expected 'Over the rainbow.'
Thank you for an excellent experience Kevin.
Was lucky to see this at the Royal Albert Hall hope to see them again
A gem of a song, lovely you did this Kevin
Thank you
@@kevingodley8262 it still gives me goosebumps after all these years. I’m Mandy Fly Me does the same
Great!
Marvellous. Standing ovation, mate.
thank you
I’ve often described SHEET MUSIC as the 70’s Sgt Pepper , which by default means that this is A Day In The Life. I think it was on Consequences that I realised just how much Kevin’s voice had contributed to 10cc . A thing of beauty : how reassuring that it still is .
Love this song. I can imagine it would a SOB to perform live.
Manchester's finest band. Ultra talented.
Absolument magnifique, superbe musique, superbe voix
Thank you!
WOW, fucking WOW. Kev you still got it man, sounds almost better than the original.
Got my vote..Come on songwriters lets go!
From my favourite album Sheet Music; sheer genius.
The original is one of my faves of all time
Kevin - this reminds me of the wonderful vocal gymnastics you performed on "This Sporting Life" and "Punchbag" from the brilliant L album. I would give my third leg for you and Lol Creme to reunite, and bring us some new music......the world desperately needs your art, and your (collective) perspective. Just a little prayer of mine. Godspeed.
Oh my goodness what a voice.Fresh air for my momma tops it all though. Not being Morbid but that is my funeral song
