Tom took a chance leaving the Doobies when he did. Most people would have stuck with it but he had the self belief to go it alone. I read he also had a bleeding ulcer and had to stop touring before touring stopped him. He also said he's a homebody and didn't like the constant touring at the time. His voice is the iconic Doobies sound with respect to Patrick and Michael. Even his speaking voice sounds as cool as hell. DOOBIES FOREVER.
Tommy didn't help things when he failed to tell the fans that he had terrible health problems instead of just saying he didn't really like the music. I was glad. when he got well enough to hit the road again in a limited capacity . He still wasn't well enough to go full speed You could tell that just looking at him If ole Macdonald hadn't stepped in, it may have been the end of the Doobies if a band takes a long Hiatus, some times they are forgotten in favor of the next "big "thing" and never get it back. MIKE helped KEepEp THE BAND RELAVNT, AS WELL AS BRINGING IN SHIT PILES OF MONEY.
Tom Johnston's "Savannah Nights" and "Reachin' Out for Lovin' From You", the two singles from his first album, were SO MUCH better than ANYTHING by The Doobie Brothers' boring output with Michael McDonald.
@Tomi Igo ..... Dead serious ..... The Doobie Brothers' output under the leadership of Michael McDonald was so boring it should be sold in the sleep-aid section of your pharmacy.
What of the classic rock voices !

Yeah, I definitely see the Burt Reynolds thing...
I don't see it at all...🍃
not only Burt Reynolds, but Jack Black!
Tommy should bring back this beard imo!
I like "Man on the Stage"
Barry Manilow sang the theme song for American Bandstand.
Why do we not see the clip of the song?
+Astrosjer I (for one) like just seeing the interviews by themselves. The song is probably on file here too (somewhere).
The performance is not included due to copyright restrictions.
Tom johnston look way better than, Burt Reynolds...
He's 32 here?
No no no! He looks like Burton Cummings!
He had to leave. His vocal cords were shot.

Michael McDonald boring?..Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion..I like both versions of the Doobies with TJ and MM.
@Tomi Igo some folks have different tastebuds and preferences
@@MegaSammy70 some folks like more than the other it's called preference
@@MegaSammy70 >>>>> There's only one version of the Doobie Brothers and that's the Pat Simmons version.
