    Hes right. Everyone has to focus on their style instead of tricks. Fuck yeah Gino!

    • @KadirKucuk
      @KadirKucuk 9 лет назад +1

      +JamboyStu you can kinda work on your style for example take all the little things you like about your favourite skaters and try to land your tricks like them then you'll kinda make your style a mix of all your favourite skaters

      kuchook - Here's the deal: *What is style?*
      Style does not necessarily come "natural"? It came from somewhere. That "somewhere" is the predecessor of skateboarding = Surfing. Everybody has a style. Tony Hawk has a style. Rodney Mullen has a style. Cardiel has a style. _Everybody has a style._ The only way a person does NOT have a style is if they "cockroach" it: Having both feet together in the middle of the board, staying rigid, pretending it is a ski. As long as anybody that has a skateboard abides by the movements of surfing, they certainly have a style. When some people say, "Skateboarding has no rules," they are in complete denial. Whether they and I like it or not, skateboarding has *rules*. Believe that...

    • @SlickRick4EVER
      @SlickRick4EVER 9 лет назад +2

      ***** "If you're trying to have a style you're faking it basically. Don't be fake."
      Really, who the fuck are you to say that??
      So many things wrong with what you said.
      First of all, skateboarding is all about *influence and emulation*. Some of that Gino's swagger style (whether you like it or not) came from some influence (friends, skateboarder, whatever...) to emulate. The one thing that made it is own is HOW he did it. You do not just magically "have it" when you first step on a board! That is bullshit and a half. Even Duane Peters (the "Master of Disaster", the innovator of style alongside the trio behind style, Steve Olsen and Salba) fucking said that style is taking the pieces of your favorite skateboarders and making your own Frankenstein creation (From Loveletters to Skateboarding: STYLE).
      Think about that, Smart-ass poser...

      +JamboyStu when he calls u a name at the very end of a long paragraph , thats not "straight to the name calling" lol. And i agree with him not you. Gino was not born with good style. Its like playing music.. some people are much more adept at it , but almost everyone starts at a low level.

    Favorite part, by far, was when he said, "what are they gonna do? Try and land something sketchy so it doesn't look boring?" That sums a lot of my problems with street skating today. The push to get perfect video parts and the skill level of the younger guys has made a lot of it look sterile. I remember Gino's b/s 360 at the beginning of the Yeah Right! part because there's some chaos to it; you can tell he's hauling ass, that the landing was really hard for him to hold on to. I can't say that for about 90% of the stuff I see now. Of course, I'm just a 30-something who romanticizes the mid-90's, so ignore me or call me an old fart. I'm just shouting into the void that is the youtube comments section. I'm always hyped to hear Gino talk skating though.

  • @dondiwhite1
    @dondiwhite1 9 лет назад +2

    I agree with him to a degree about skating being boring but I think it has a lot more to do with it than he's mentioning. In the 90s it was NBD after NBD going down, every part in every video. It was amazing. If you were doing NBDs a lot, then you were the shit but if you did them with amazing style it was legendary.
    Skaters these days are less about NBDs, which is understandable since it's super hard to do a legit, non circus trick NBD and they are more about perfecting and getting super, super consistent on what's been established by the 90s skaters. It's cool, skating is still amazing but what I mentioned above makes the 90s the greatest era in skating to me. No money, all love and NBDs galore. Pure skating.

    Mad respect, what Gino talked about is so true. Like I remember more tricks from old video parts that standout to me because of the impact and style when I started skating. Stuff like James Craig switch hardflip in the old logic videos and Stevie William's tricks on that damn near waist high ledge from the DC Video. Alot of the old videos I use to watch still get me more hype today than some of the stuff coming out now, I can also pop in videos like Flip's Sorry, Globe Opinion, Darkstar Battalion or some of the old Transworld Videos like Modus Operandi or The Reason and get hella hyped. I guess I just started skating at a different time I suppose.

    A lot of truths in this episode. I don't remember anything from all these crazy, technichal, new parts. Stuff I remember is like the Pyramid Country videos and stuff. Grainy footage, simpler tricks done really well but not so well that it looks easy.

    Agreed with Gino. We live in a digital age where everything is thrown at you in social medias. Back in the day we only the latest videos to rely on and a vcr. You had time to digest every single tricks. Now new videos come out including social medias thrown at you. you're like meh.. I don't blame kids for it tho. We just live in a weird time.

    only problem is, its easy to get hurt and not to progress when ur not landing everything perfect
    I think in the future, maybe we're already seein it with people like Miles but

    I feel everything in this so much. It's like you don't want to hate on people being insanely good, but at the same time it's just shit. It's not cool or remember able if they are just robots. Those berrics videos of people having "tricks on lock" like bs flip everything first try makes me sick.

    we do live in a weird time, and it's sad for current pros. back in the day, you filmed for 6 months, put out a video and people would watch that part for years. now you film for a year or two, put out an online video part and people watch it for maybe a day before moving onto the next online part. i dont see how any pros today have any longevity in their careers.

  • @cryptomnesiac
    @cryptomnesiac 9 лет назад +1

    i think kids landing crazy shit perfect is linked to collective consciousness. back in the day it was huge when you and your friends made 3 flips. now 10 year olds do them down sets like nothing and their board doesn't even fit them. it is weird... the longer an idea is out there, the more accessible it is for everyone.
