It was great however i wish at the beginning you addressed that the holder was in the open position i didnt realize pulling out and pushing in locked and unlocked it almost broke it trying to shove it in not relizing it was closed... but thank you for the rest of the information it was helpful
Omg this was so helpful!!! I have been inserting the blade completely wrong and was going to return my Cameo 4 because I thought it was defective. I’m new to this and thought the blade was common sense. 🤦🏻♀️ Can you help me understand what the numbers 10 to 0 mean?
I'm glad you found it helpful. :) The numbers indicate the depth of that specific blade. Manual (or may be referenced as ratchet) style blades are typically 1mm max with the exception of the deep cut blade. That is a 2mm max. They've done better labeling blades but there are so many it can still be confusing. Just remember - autoblades adjust the depth per the software settings; manual (ratchet) blades you must manually change the blade depth before inserting into the holder. This link may help you identify newer tools that weren't available when I recorded this video. www.silhouetteamerica.com/shop/blades-and-mats
Hi, thank you for this video. Do you know how to use a replacement auto blade that does not have the flat back? It's the only kind that Silhouette offers now and my machine doesn't seem to read it without the smart metal chip in the back of the flat version.
If you are using a manual blade of any type (no smart metal piece on blade) then you must change that in the software for the machine to cut. You can do that on the Send screen. From the choices available, be sure to choose the manual option. Be aware you must also adjust the blade depth manually. There's a round spot in the front (left) of the machine that you use to change depth.
Hello thanks for the great video I have a question I think my machine might be broken. This is what's happening when I do the test cut for example if I do a test cut at 2 and then do the actual cut the blade won't reset and it will add on 2 taking the blade to 4 is the blade supposed to reset by itself because I have been manually resetting the blade every time I do a cut
That's definitely not normal behavior. It's possible the blade carriage isn't hitting the correct spots when adjusting the blade and needs reset. Turn the machine off and then manually move the blade carriage along the bar right to left about 5 times. Then turn it back on. Also, double check that the cap on the blade is screwed on fully. I've seen a lot of issues resolved by that simple fix.
Thank for this video .it very nice explain .I have problems in during the cutting design.I have cameo 4 buy recently.my machine not cutting on design edge line .it cutting out side of edge line.what can do about it can you tell me any suggestions.thank you.
@@anoopkotwale807 aaah ok so it sounds like you are using print then cut with registration marks. It's a little buggy right now in the 4.3 versions. The biggest thing to remember is your page setup in Studio needs to match your printer setup. Verify that your orientation for both the printer and your project are the same - portrait/portrait etc. Then be sure your media size is set to Printer in your page setup panel.
Hi Dina I'm very new to this. I received my Cameo 4 as a gift and I cannot get it to print. I feel like I have tried everything. I turned it off and turned it back on and manually moved the carriage . I have made sure the cap on the blade is tight and I have made sure the blade is snapped in correctly. I am so frustrated!
Hi Dina, Thanks for the information. I have one question: that 10-0 is about how deep the Cameo cuts, or? If so - do I have to adjust it in on the blade as well as in the Software? Or not at all?
Hi :) yes, that is the blade depth for that particular style. There is a deep cut blade that goes up to 20. In terms of thickness... 10 is for items up to 1mm thick; 20 is for items up to 20mm thick. But I do caution using the blade at full depth for long periods or really thick materials (such as thicker chip board) may not be the best option for cutting thicker materials. The blades tend to get stuck and chew up the items being cut. I'd suggest a graduated cut starting on a lower depth and increasing the depth as you make additional passes. It may take some testing to find out the right depth and number of passes needed to cut all the way through. If you are using the autoblade, the software settings are used to make the adjustments. This is the extra tapping at the beginning of your cut jobs. If you are using a ratchet/manual style blade, you must physically adjust to the desired depth, change the blade type in the software to ratchet/manual and then send the job to cut.
The blade I bought that says silhouette auto blade, is rounded and longer than the one that came with my machine. Did I buy the wrong one? It was the only auto lad for silhouette in the store. I can’t figure out how to lock it in.
The adapters enable you to use other tools such as the black/blue ratchet blade, sketch pens/pencils etc and have them recognized correctly in the software for appropriate material cut settings. :)
good job. great video. but I found out the cap surrounding the blade can also be loose! I had to turn it until it was fully seated, so you might want to re do your video and show how that can be a problem too. arrgh.
I'd use the cover stock material setting which is for thicker card. Do a test cut to be sure the settings will work for your needs. If the cuts are not going all the way through the card, increase the force by 1-2. If it is cutting into the mat, decrease the force.
@@fahrultajien5916 You can use the regular blade for paper cutting. The kraft blade is not meant for intricate cuts or cuts with sharp turns/corners. I've not found it very user friendly especially with all the extra steps that are needed to even use it in the 2nd tool holder.
I just got my cameo 4. I inserted the autoblade correctly and locked into place correctly. But the silhouette studio still says no tool detected... what do i do??
It shouldn't matter as it resets the blade to zero before adjusting to the blade depth software setting. :) You'll hear one long click for the reset and shorter clicks to adjust the depth.
I'm not having trouble with the blade, but for some reason my Cameo 4 Blade House gets stuck and then makes a woodpecker sound. I can't find any help anywhere on it. I'm so frustrated
@@JeanieEllis1953 Hmm those are close to mine. blade is 3, force 24. You may have done this, but be sure all the tape and packing material has been removed from the inner portion of the machine. If that is all fine, look at your mat after the cut. Is it lightly scoring it (normal) or is it deeply etching or cutting into or through the mat (not normal)? If it is the latter, reduce your blade depth and increase your force by 1-2 and increase your passes by 1-2. Also check the blade for debris especially inside the cap. If the blade cannot move freely due to build up inside the blade cap it cannot move properly causing poor cuts.
I'd start with the pre-defined settings in the software for magnet sheets, adhesive and do a test cut first. if the test cut works without issues, run with it. :) You may need adjustments depending on the brand of magnet paper you are using. If that's the case, make the adjustments and save as a custom material cut setting. :)
I have the new cameo 4 rotary blade. I can only get it to do a test. When I hit sent, the blade does not touch the fabric but goes all around like it is cutting. The blade is out as it should be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The higher force blades are still a bit buggy in terms of software settings and the workflow is quite clunky. Ensure the blade is inserted fully and locked in place. Then be sure you're selecting the 2nd blade option in the software for the correct cut settings. Your cut lines should be blue instead of red.
Some people have received defective autoblades. 1st, ensure the cap is secure and tightly screwed into place. You can verify the blade changes settings appropriately with manual testing. Be careful not to poke yourself with the blade. Use your thumb and make a long press on the bottom of the blade up into the housing. This will reset the blade to zero. Shorter presses will advance the blade depth. If that works, the blade is functioning properly. You can also inspect the blade for any damages such as cracks in the housing. The only other thing to verify is that your cut lines are active on the Send screen and you have selected the appropriate material/cut settings.
Yes. The cameo 4 has a flat backed blade with the metal piece on it. No other versions are like that. Make sure you've got the correct blade. They're labeled 1 & 2. Silhouette updated the blade colors and names recently. It could be labeled as A & B. Here's a good matrix that shows what blade works in the various machines. www.silhouetteamerica.com/tools 1/A is the main slot on the left. The right holder is for special tools like the rotary blade and the punch tool. If you look closely at the blades you'll see the grooves are different. Align the grooves with the slot in the blade holder and it should slide into the holder. you may need to give it a little push to click into place. There should be no gaps. If there are, it isn't seated fully and will not adjust correctly causing poor cuts.
So... I have used this once and seemed.great.. now after a few months .. I am sending my design to cut.. it starts then spits it back out.. checked blade it is in.. I know this is simple but I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
My blade seems to be in correctly..locked in place. But the green dot is partially blue and I am having to crank up the settings drastically to get a cut. Any suggestions??
Are the locks fully in place? It almost sounds like it isn't fully pushed into place. When inserting the blade, hold one index finger under the lock lever. It should click in place. Then push the lock lever fully towards the blade until it clicks in place. You can also check to be sure the blade isn't damaged. With your finger, carefully press the blade cap up until it clicks. A long press will reset the blade to zero. A short press will advance the depth exposing more of the blade. When fully exposed, you should see a sharp angle. Inspect for a broken tip or chip on the blade. Also, some blades have a crack that doesn't allow proper depth changes. Check around the blade cap (where you press to adjust depth) and look for cracks or other defects. I also find that I need to increase force by 1-2 and sometimes blade depth by at least 1 on the default material settings. My custom cut settings have worked great though! :)
I thought this was a great video; one recommendation is to show that if the blade does not go all the way down its because the carriage holder could be in the 'locked" position. This took me a while to figure it out.. but overall a great video!
There is a version that was released with a cutting bug that left gaps in the cut lines. If you are using an older version you may want to look into one of the newer 4.3 or 4.4 releases.
Make sure it's unlocked first. Pull the lever out toward you. When locked in place, the dot on the handle is blue. That's how you know if it is locked/unlocked.

Thank you! newbie here, very helpful!
Will you please do some beginner videos
hi what blade and settings to use if I am cutting magnetic sheets that is 1mm thick. Thanks
What is the second holder for?
I received my cameo 4 plus yesterday and the blade is not cutting? I have tried everything on your video?
Dina you’re a life saver lol. I wasted like 3 sheets of vinyl cause I didn’t click the damn blade in 😭 thank you for this tutorial
Does the blade that comes with it… go with the machine??? My blade not going in either hole???
Yes. The cameo 4 has a flat backed blade with the metal piece on it. No other versions are like that. Make sure you've got the correct blade. They're labeled 1 & 2. Silhouette updated the blade colors and names recently. It could be labeled as A & B. Here's a good matrix that shows what blade works in the various machines. www.silhouetteamerica.com/tools
1/A is the main slot on the left.
Sheri Kord: what do you mean by carriage holder? I'm having trouble with mine and wondering if this is why?
carriage holder = blade holder. There is a lever in the front of the blade holder that pulls out/pushes in to lock the blade in place.
You are a lifesaver 😁
I can not insert my new Cameo 4 rotary blade. It will not click in all the way. Is there a video to help me?
OH MY GOD YOU SAVE MY LIFFFFFFEE !!! THANK YOU RUclips !!!!!!!
Everything s good my blade s new but still its leaving some cut lines open how does it happen i never had problems before
There is a version that was released with a cutting bug that left gaps in the cut lines. If you are using an older version you may want to look into one of the newer 4.3 or 4.4 releases.
@@bakedonmaple1196 i got the latest update already
I’m a newbie to this and I was trying to take out my auto blade and check it but it seems as though it’s jammed in
Make sure it's unlocked first. Pull the lever out toward you. When locked in place, the dot on the handle is blue. That's how you know if it is locked/unlocked.
Yes ma’am I pulled the lever outwards I’ve gotten it up just a little by using things to get it to come out but no luck
