- Today we're taking a look at 2 different types of LED strip, the first is SK6812 RGBW but then in 12v, it turns out to be very interesting and has the lowest power usage of 12v addressable LED strips I have tested! Then we're also taking a look at a 5v addressable LED neon sleeve, this gives a great and diffused effect making a lot of patterns looks awesome! :D

I believe both strips where tipped to me by some people on my Discord server, thnx guys! :D
i need a strip that doesnt go kapoet XD
Link for the 2M 96LEDs/m 5v RGB Neon Sleeved seems to be dead. Tried searching but can't find it. Is there any similars you could recommend from btf-lighting?
Go kaput😂 hahah lol!!
I wish to see you compare some of the lesser known varieties of addressable LEDs... Like GS8208 vs WS2815 vs others... Or HD107S vs APA102 vs others... Thank you!
Have to be a special sk6812 rgbw Led because the 8 legs. Regular 5volts sk6812 has 4 legs.
Wow! What effects library are you using in the demo for the flexible tube?? They're amazing!
More LED videos please and thank you.
Can you link the neon rope?
what did you use as power supply and controller?
Have you checked any of the links in the description? On quinled.info I have all the information you could ever want about the controller, power supplies, wiring, etc. etc. :)
Thanks.
Is there an SK6812 RGBW 12V with neutral white?
what do you define as "long stretches"? I need 4,5 meters, would you go 5V or 12V RGBW?
I just ordered an SK6805 strip inside one of those silicone sleeves. It's total size is only 6mm × 6mm (0.24 inches), with 150leds/m! Excited for it to arrive!
Where would you use the neon strip for? Outside decoration lighting?
Sure yes, but also like lining a shelf in a closet or making shapes with it on the wall for instance. It's a really different effect then a bare LED strip because it's very diffused making it a lot less harsh then LEDs themselves (which you generally don't want to directly look into).
Hi thanks for the great videos and info on your website. Is there a current link to the rope style led strip shown in this video as current link in the description is dead. Thank you again, Happy New Year from us in the UK 👍😃
I have a question seeing that you test different led strips. I am trying to replicate neon tube look. My application is for a 36 feet roof trim overhang 32 ft in front and each side 4 ft back (90 deg turn). I have seen aluminium channels with a frosted lens. Color selection is OK but I don;t need animation.
Yes, but the normal 10mm profile has the LEDs too close to the diffuser so you will keep seeing hot spots. For that I'd recommend a larger profile like the 30mm variants out there, with the LED further away it will look more diffused (also be less bright...)
can we make one led strip 21 meter for my the perimeter of the ceiling of my room
only one power box
? (with 4 or 5 APA102 for example ? )
did you recommand anything for me ?
thanks
What? You sure that can be done, you are going to need plenty of power injection though. Check out my wiring guides on my website.
What would the best option be when wanting to run RGBWW?
So RGBW with warm white you mean? There is 3 you can get now with digitally addressable, sk6812, TM1814 or ws2814, I really like the last one especially at 24v for instance.
@@IntermitTech thank you for your prompt response. I have some lights that already have the strip in them. They have a warm white chip with an RGB chip then a cool white chip. I do have an image I can send you if that helps. I have several of your unit operating different strips. The strippers 12V and is already installed in a custom lighting unit.
Hello thanks for the explanation, but what do you suggest for 40 Ft led strip with a good RGB and real Natural or cool white?
Well, that doesn't exist in one strip. If suggest addressable RGB and analog high CRI natural white
Really nice video and informative like always. I may ask something again? I love my quinled. But. I dont find the way that after I cut the power to it and powered back start in the same effect that was before cut the power off. With power off I mean cutting the power going to the quinled.
Save your settings to a preset slot in WLED and then set that preset to activate in boot. That's the easiest solution for now, in the future changes to WLED will enable more functions in that regard.
@@IntermitTech I feel frustrated right now. I cant do it. Is any video about how to do it? I dont know what I am doing wrong...
@@changchung Save settings to preset 1, go to setting, led preferences and select it to turn on preset 1 at boot, done!
@@IntermitTech Nothing. Anytine that I try to save something the Leds go amber. After save everything the lights stay amber after reconnecting. 🙁 I feel stupid
@@changchung Odd, join the Discord, best place to troubleshoot :)
Altijd +1!
Nice... Where you find the SK6812 in 12volts?
On Aliexpress, the link is right there in the video description. ;)
With it being 96led/m any issues of the strip overheating since it's silicone and not aluminum
Addressable LEDs generally become a bit less hot then Analog LEDs and I've felt the tube become a bit warm, but nothing alarming. Now of that means it's getting properly cooled, I don't really know. It's meant for effects and colors and for that it'll be fine I think.
Where to buy the neon rope one?
what would you say is the max length the board can do for a strip im trying to do my ceiling perimeter of my game room . im very new to this project just wanting to get some advice to see what would be the route or max .
No max length, just max power and LEDs for a data channel.
Good Morning... i plan to use some of your products, but i have small problem, INRUSH current into a motion sensor destroys the motion sensor, i need to figure out how to build inrush limiter. I may have to buy a complete LED motion sensor light assy and study its circuitry. BTW, i live in hot desert enviroment, summer over 100 degrees from 9am to 9pm, have to overbuild electronics, so it does not burn up. 12 volt is great for using an old PC power supply!!
Inrush current? But then you are running all current through the switch? Maybe hook up a controller and trigger that high/low depending on the if light is needed or not, that way the switch only sees a little bit of current and the rest is handled by electronics that can take it. We are currently experiencing the same temperatures here, but for us that's a rarity!
@@IntermitTech Thanks!! i will look into that suggestion, my electronics knowledge is slim, so opportunity for me to learn this.
I really REALLY LIKE IT .
Really
Very nice 🖖👍
Hey guys I need some help with a project I am planning with the dig uno, is there someone here who can help, already tried reddit, or could the great quindor himself lend me a minute of his time ?
Come on the Discord server, it's easiest to discuss :)
Intermit.Tech For sure ! Hope to hear from you there, thanks for being so awesome
is it the white led that makes it that much more power effecient?
A dedicated white LED is much more efficient then trying to make white from RGB and also much better white light too. With digital LEDs it's pretty set what you get, but with Analog LEDs there is a lot more variance and quality difference in the white LEDs. You can get 28.8w per meter very high quality stuff for instance.
Love your work Mr Quin.
Where can I buy the Rope
Video Description....
how do you get custom patterns?
That's currently not easy yet in WLED, but there are A LOT of patterns and combinations with speed, width and pallet that you can set!
Is the neon strip cutable? Could be interesting to use parts of the strip in furniture.
i also like to know this i just order a xouple but dont see cut marks and the sleeve is sealed in both ends
I'd look at the link to BTF sleeve, that's just the sleeve without the LED strip inside so you can put any in there and make them yourself to length.
12v no longer available
Oh damn, seems my videos have that effect sometimes. Thnx for letting me know, I've added 2 alternative sellers, although I didn't buy there, they look to be selling exactly the same strip.
Seems that those LED strips aren't for sale, links are broken..
One link was broken because the seller removed it. I put in an alternative, the others all worked?
@@IntermitTech Yes it works now :) Thanks! I was wondering, those leds are fully covered, with means no cooling option right? So the lifespan will be 50% less? There are flexible/bendable aluminium led tubes (where you put the led strip in) also on the market. Isn't that a more sustainable option?
Digital LEDs run a lot cooler then analog, so while it isn't ideal, it should be fine for a while unless you plan on running a lot of RGB white.
@@IntermitTech I did not knew this, I will do some deeper research about this "digital" leds vs analog

Is the neon rope weather proof? And the other question, won't it become brittle over time?
Yes, I believe it's weather sealed, as long as the connectors are taken care of, the rope itself will be fine. I don't know about becoming brittle, it's some sort of rubber silicone sleeve and meant for this purpose so I'm assuming it will be ok, but I didn't give it a long length test outside. ;)
@@IntermitTech would be a good follow up video...
