Lyrics:
High water risin'
Risin' night and day
All the gold and silver
Are being stolen away
Big Joe Turner lookin' East and West
From the dark room of his mind
He made it to Kansas City
Twelfth Street and Vine
Nothing standing there
High water everywhere

The banjo picking, the backing vocals, the apocalyptic imagery. Yep, this is a perfect song.
ANOTHER perfect song.
The best song on the CD. Actually I got this cd by accident. Was in a record club and this was cd of the month 2001. I said what is this. Turned out to be my best cd at the time\ wow😳😳
Apocalyptic banjo flood music
I've often thought, this might be his best album.
I think it is
That's one helluva banjo. A song that grabs you and doesn't let go.

Thanks for your love and support that has brought me this far, it has been a hard time for me going through this but your love and support keeps me going and standing strong in this difficult times. I do read your heartwarming comments and I truly appreciate all you’ve done for me throughout the years.
It’s a season of love for me and so I decided to put a smile on the faces of my fans by going through my page and checking out on my fans, so I can get to communicate with my fans better through discussion of depth and humor listening to compliments and criticism of my career.......
Don't get fooled by the imposter!!
Thank you, Bob, the greatest poet of our times.

I can’t imagine Bob hanging out on RUclips
Impossible to sit still to this one
Surprised this hasn't been used in a film soundtrack. Very atmospheric.
One of my favorite Bob Dylan songs. His voice slays me on this one.
Can you imagine that this was released on the morning of September 11th 2001? Somehow makes it even more profound. Chilling, even.
I remember it well. Sky full of fire, pain pourin down.
Happy Birthday today(May 24) to Bob Dylan. Cheers! 🥨
Keepin the memory of Charlie "Charley" Patton alive.
The perfect intro. Flawless.
This is a picking masterpiece and the salty sterling voice of Bob is a beautiful combination of hillbilly and rock. Who can resist? Not I said your biggest fan.
The instrumentation is perfect, but Bob’s lyrics and his arrangements are what makes this song another winner !
A great metaphor from desolation, panic, the end of things.
Magic man's favorite 🎉
Just instrumental gold here. Besides the banjo, I love the vox organ and the drumming
highwater every where.
Sending blessings to you Bob from the Northwest.✝️✨🛐
To dance is the best thing we can do.
On earth and in heaven...💃🕺💃🕺🎵🎷🎼

Thunder rolling over Clarksdale, everything looking bluuuuue
"You're dancin' with whom they tell you to
Or you don't dance at all"...
I just can't be happy, love
Unless you're happy too
It's bad out there."
memorable line indeed
Great song this one

@@johansterk354 I won't to many of them
BD's & other great Rock musicians (Stones) fascination ( or is it Intrigue verging on obsession) with often obscure R&R black roots & musical genius of t Charlie Parkers, Muddy waters, Theloneous Monks..) that are perceived & recognized as actually Invented R&R & R&B by Artists of Dylan's Calibur. Here BD pays his Respects by doing a Cover song of such early musical geniuses. Very nice
It's tough out there.....Lyricist extrodenair 💖
After Hurricane Ian 2023 ..this hits even harder.... Bob you are a prophet
Whoooooo boy.
As great as you are a man,
You'll never be greater than yourself
oh yeah
Perfect song

Around the time when I bought the CD,l met a girl that looked like an Angel, but to make a long story short》It was Love and Theft, more Theft than Love, took me a while until I found out....However I love the album very much, yes I do👍
First time I’ve ever heard a banjo sound ominous.
“Deliverance” doesn’t count.

"As great as you are a man, you'll never be greater than yourself" to me is a Christian allusion to what St. Paul writes in the New Testament, something along the lines of "There is no male nor female, for all are made one in Christ". "You'll never be greater than yourself" in Christ, who is stripped of the typical characteristics like gender.
Peerless.
