- Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones and childhood friend and noted Jazz bass player Dave Green have put together the ABC&D of Boogie Woogie with Axel Zwingenberger on piano and Ben Waters on piano and vocals and they talk about their 2012 June release Live In Paris, music they listened to growing up, The Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary plans for 2012, ABC&D's plans for the future and the supposed rivalry between The Stones and The Beatles.
Every interview with Charlie Watts an example of modesty, humility and gentlemanly behaviour. Genuine class.
Charlie Watts. Perfect gentleman. Polite, down to earth, no frills, no ego problems, no fuss, no showmanship, but speaks volumes! He can walk into a room and say nothing, his presence is enough. God bless you Charlie and thank you!
Charlie is the unsung hero of the Stones who has been the sheet anchor of their band that holds it all together. He is one of the most under rated and unappreciated drummers in all of music. What a great guy !! What a great musician .
" it's not rocket science, you just have to listen to each other" Charlie typically straight to the heart of the matter!!
So many younger musicians should take heed haha.
I can listen to Charlie all day;
Watts is much more talkative and enthusiastic in this interview, about this music, than he's in most (all?) interviews concerning the Stones.
Charlie Watts is just a cool cat!!
i am stunned, touched,i didn't know there could be a humble rollin stone, mes homages monsieur Watts.
I met and hung out with mick Taylor...most friendly and humble guy you ever would meet.
Great interview. Wonderful musicians.
Charlie's got to be the most reluctant among rock stars
Believe it or not, Charlie's first love is jazz. He is a fantastic musician and made a pretty fair living with the Rolling Stones.
Charlie could just as well have been a great accountant, listening to him and not knowing where he's been.
The very finest drummer in ALL of Rock!
I loves me some Charlie Watts. Of course his first love has always been jazz but rock 'n roll/Rolling Stones paid the bills for him and his longtime wife Shirley. Won't make much money playing jazz. I don't know if he still does but in his younger days he liked antique guns. Blues fan summed him up well in his comment below. My favorite Stone.
Ha! How sweet! Question: How long have you known each other? Dave: " All my life..." How unique to be friends/rhythm section partners for ....how many years???? And STILL friends... I think good drummers and good bass players are probably/usually the best musicians in the house. Thanks a million for posting. Ya gotta LOVE these two music nerds. I do.
'The Stones' paid Charlie to play with them even if they ('Stones') weren't being paid!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing this.
Deep bow to Sir Charles Of Boogie !
@10:40 'for me, that's my life'.
RIP Rolling Stones💧💧💧💧💧
The main man. Charlie Watts. The engine driver. He made the greatest rock and roll rhythms the world has ever heard.
love the story in the earley days of the stones charlie poped jaggar for calling charlie HIS DRUMMER. tells alot about this man heard him say never considered himself ROCK STAR. class act !!!
First really noticed Charlie,in the clip Little Queeny...been a hero of mine ever since,,,
No Charlie... No Stones!
Amen💧💧💧💧
Keith has said that word for word.
Ja, ich bin einverstanden. Es ist großartig.
Rest in Peace Charlie Watts
Sadly Charlie would only be around 9 more years, the world hasn't been the same since, thanks Charlie
Right on man. I'd like to see them after living a rock and roll lifestyle. The man's 71 what the hell is he supposed to look like?
Feels like Charlies childhood friend is somewhat starstruck no matter the past, and Charlie being polite as usual. ;)
Charlie right proper
That looks like Mick Taylor playing the keyboards at the beginning.
Is he one the worlds most underrated drummers.
Spot Charlie's lips moving as he reads the cue cards at the beginning ' I'm Dave Green' etc.... ! Without him the Stones would only have lasted the predicted 'year or two' when they started!
I agree, RD, always had the same opinion, but bless, he's the epitome of COOL!! :)
Charlies good tonight in he
The guy on the left didn't hang out with Keith Richards and Mick Jagger for 50 years. And Charlie's older than both of them. He's an English gentleman who got mixed up with maybe the baddest crowd ever, musically.
Es geschehen noch Wunder ! Manchmal steigt der große ,Zampano, zu uns runter und erzählt Weisheiten ! Toll
Ya. He looks better than I do.
0:18 Mick Taylor on piano
i wish these guys could've heard dona oxford before they did this
I believe he is a Jazz Drummer first and formost.
john schober Dats true!
I think Charlie was being treated for throat cancer around this time....cut some slack
Amen
i think Charlie at this time was recovering from cancer therapy? i think
Watts on his band: "...I'm really not into all that, at all; it's just not for me..." Uh-Huh.
That's basically it, same olde stick-out-me-tongue response to all the wankers... totally professional, distinctive, a virtuoso. Kindly expect retirement when drumsticks removed from cold, dead fingers. "Popular drummer leaves entire estate & royalties to beloved dogs." Ha-rumph.
How amazingly similar to Harpo Marx does the great Charlie resemble
Apparently it meant something to you lol. The random capitalization gave you away. Just kidding Frances.
I'd feel bad/sad if he did died , he is legend...everyone dies tho.
I reckon if you go to Charlie's house for dinner, you eat in the kitchen by the arga - and don't talk about the stones or he'll stretch and yawn, answer your question in a round about ' I dunno kind of way & it will be time to go too quick
+richard lawless Either way he has had a touch....
charlie looks twenty years older than the guy on the left haha
Well, he'd been both a heroin addict
and a cancer survivor, so there's that...
two people chewing the cud
Charlie is great!!!
but his eyes still the same.....marijuana with keith hahah
It's not just you, R.D.; Watts always looked a bit "mature", but he now looks like deathed warmed over and then cooled back down.
Wow..wtf do u look like mate?
