    I love the fact that in the last story the towing company isn't getting screwed over with the Malicious towing requests from the HOA and is instead making money and laughing it up with OP, I think if OP ever needs a tow they know who to call

    Update Also in that last story OP was able to find a bunch of Titanic movies that were hoarded for some reason and was able to profit after finding out one of them was ultra rare.

    A smart HOA would offer to help the dude clear our the former hoarder house as even a non member who's keeping the house in shape will help the area values and the sooner it's cleared our the sooner the trailer and dumpster will be gone.
    But it seems that far toomany HOAs are run by the least creative people in the world.

    So refreshing to see an above board towing company. And OP's brilliance in getting said company onboard with him before the HOA could.

    Nail salon story: Don't we all just hate racists? Just because one is Asian or you speak a given language of a shop/store doesn't mean you work there. Good grief! Good job on wasting Karen's time though.
    Bike story: Absolutely he was trying to avoid paying you. Given the amount involved for the bike I doubt his move was solely motivated by that as the costs in moving are much higher. He likely needed to move for other reasons and just didn't want to pay. Regardless, OP you did well in putting a lien on his house and getting a cashiers check. (I wouldn't have accepted a personal check for obvious reasons.)
    HOA story: Got to love these idiots that think they can force someone to join an HOA using intimidation tactics. OP, good luck on cleaning that house. Just make sure everything is structurally sound and that there aren't any mold problems or critter/insect infestations.

      Bike Story: Australia (and the UK) have a more direct system for obtaining payment following a court judgement. Apply for the matter to be transferred to the High Court (similar to the USA's Supreme Court) and then have the High Court send out the sheriffs to collect on your behalf. They're allowed to seize property to be sold at public auction to pay the outstanding amount, which includes the court and collection fees.
      There are a few things which they can't legally seize, such as the family home, medications and medical equipment and disabled-access items, but almost everything else can be seized so long as it belongs to the person who owes the money. Cars are, of course, the usual asset seized. The debtor usually decides to find the money to pay up once it gets to that point, especially once they realise that items sold at public auction generally go for around one-fifth the amount you'd get selling them privately. That's because the items are sold with no inspection allowed and no warranty,
      The system generally tends to work well although like all debt collection systems, it's not perfect.

    • @merlinathrawes746

      @@melkiorwiseman5234 The US Supreme Court does not handle such matters, it handles questions that pertaining to the constitutionality of laws. A state's district or circuit court CAN send the sheriff's out, but there are often additional costs for having that done.

    • @melkiorwiseman5234
      @melkiorwiseman5234 7 месяцев назад

      @@merlinathrawes746 In Australia, there are additional costs for sending out the sheriffs, but those additional costs are added to the debt payable. The person owed the money only has to pay those costs (which aren't horribly high) if the debt can't be collected.

    Story 2 is pretty much the way I'd expect an IDWHL story to go in real life. OP immediately shuts Karen down, isn't polite, isn't subservient, dispels the illusion of dominance from Karen without hesitation. These OPs who try to politely explain without mirroring the entitlement of their Karens seem like the works of fiction.

    1st story reminded me when I was a kid living in apartments. The complex has 2 maintenance guys nicknamed Pete and Repeat. Pete would "fix" an item and Repeat would be there later to re-fix (sometimes) the same item.

    If you’re riding a bike on the sidewalk, and then cross the street you’re supposed to WALK your bike across the road following pedestrian rules. If crossing the road from the sidewalk YOU ARE TO WALK YOUR BICYCLE. If riding on the road you’re supposed to use driving rules. That means obeying the road rules as if you’re driving a vehicle/motorcycle ect.

    • @marckempe2143
      @marckempe2143 7 месяцев назад

      Here’s a point that needs to be made, most people in cars DO NOT LIKE PEOPLE ON BICYCLES ON THE ROAD even if they are considered vehicles. It’s especially irritating when drivers use the cycling lanes as turn lanes. There is a reason why it is safer for cyclists to use the sidewalk, because if you are hit by a car, the person driving wouldn’t have a leg to stand on because they are especially supposed to keep awareness for pedestrians, they would have even less if they jumped the curb. This is from someone who managed to get a driver to pay for repairs on his bicycle when he pulled in front of me while I was riding for work. Knowledge of cycling laws in certain states can get you out of trouble when a police officer thought that you were in the wrong.

    Bike story: The guy was in the wrong but you shouldn't ride your bike on the sidewalk either. It's a menace to actual pedestrians and as this lady found out coming off a sidewalk into the roadway with a bicycle is more likely to get you ran over than just riding on the road like you should be doing.

    The bike rider is an idiot to assume a driver will stop just because there is a sign. I see this all the time with people walking in front of moving vehicles without looking. I want to ask them where they purchased their personal force field, which I assume they have since they can't be bothered to look before crossing. Aside from that, adding a lien was brilliant.

    What is it with those HOA's?
    Are they so lacking in fundings, that they need to harass non members to survive to next Year?
    Don't they have enough members to survey?
    Maby they want a little golfcart to roll around the neighborhood, to look for minimal infractions?
    Those carts Cost a small Fortune.

      I mean, he bought a house that he likely knew was part of an HOA (since he bought it in a sale forced by the HOA). The thing about HOAs is that membership runs with the land, so it doesn’t matter if you’re a “member,” only that your house is. The re’s something really fishy about that last story.
      Long story short, be very careful when buying a house, since if it’s part of an HOA you will have to deal with those vampires.

    Bicycle story - I have a big issue with that story. Not saying that it didn't happen but I am 99% sure that the OP was riding on the sidewalk and rode in front of the car as it was going to turn. This means that, even though she was on the sidewalk, she was riding against traffic. In most jurisdictions, bicycles are treated virtually the same as cars and must ride =with= traffic not against traffic. This is the same as crossing over a double yellow line into opposing traffic. She literally could have been cited for operating a vehicle in opposing traffic. I have been involved in two situations like this and in both situations, the rider was informed that they could be cited for operating left of center. That's assuming this happened in the US.

    That bike story is so dumb. The driver just had to make a deal to pay a few hundred bucks. But nope, they potentially lost out on thousands because of the lien.
    Every month that lien was on the house was another payment they had to make to the bank. Did they get the money in the end? Maybe, but many people will bail on a deal that's stuck like that. The next potential buyer may have paid the asking, but I would doubt it. Most would eventually learn of the lien and lower the price.

    I love to ride my electric scooter. But I mostly keep to the bike lane (as I'm supposed to by law) because sidewalks can be filled with too many entitled cyclists (where they don't belong). Sorry, haven't listened to the rest of the story, but cyclists have no reason to be on the sidewalk.

  • @dougberg7746

    Also anyone who walks or bikes in front of a moving vehicle without waiting for the vehicle to come to a complete stop is asking for trouble. Just because there is a stop sign doesn’t guarantee a vehicle will stop. Walkers and or bikers have to take some responsibility for their actions. I get sick and tired of people blaming drivers for hitting pedestrians or cyclists in crosswalks when it is their responsibility to not put themselves in harm’s way.
