I live two miles down the road from Hollywood Corners and what Toby didn’t mention is that he saved that business. For years it was just a small run down convenience store that was unable to survive when the main road was shut down for repairs. The store sat empty for the longest time and many of us feared it would be purchased, bulldozed and replaced by a modern store. Toby came in and saved the day. Now it’s a great place to go eat and hangout, listen to music, etc. I’m forever grateful for Toby saving Hollywood Corners! 🙂
Not in his character to take credit ... these men are both great humans with big hearts! And pretty darn good musicians too (lol)!!
@D Toby lives just a few miles away. Apparently he was a regular visitor to the convenience store before it closed. I have no knowledge of if he was interested all along or not, I just remember it sitting for a long time. I’d drive by regularly brainstorming on what kind of business could work there. I am glad it serves multiple purposes now, the corner is way nicer now. The old building had fallen into disrepair after sitting empty. They did a great job on the remodel!
Toby played to a small invite-only crowd shortly after the reopening, I don’t think he’s played publicly there though. He has been spotted there grabbing lunch (the deli has great good). 🙂

Toby won me over a few years ago when before a show, Merle Haggard was too sick to go on and Toby offered to stand in for him. Merle asked him which of his songs did he know, thinking Toby might be able to go out and do a few . Toby answered "All of them." And went out and did a full set of Merle's songs with Merle's band.

She sang & that's it. She had a music deal early due to her mom Thelma's & aunt Dionne Warwick's connections. Her biggest hit is due to Kevin Costner suggesting Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" for the soundtrack, a song she never heard of.

It would be impossible for him to sing a Whitney Houston song and have it sound anything like what she did, but singing songs that are the same or similar genre and style from another male singer is doable. The comment was merely about someone covering for another singer for an audience who was expecting the original, yet you acted like they were talking about who is a better singer, writer, or performer as if it was a contest.

I was in Afghanistan in 2011 and he was there on a USO tour. I was grateful to be able to work a small detail to provide security for him in case of the rocket attacked. I was able to meet him in person shake his hand Toby was a true patriot, he rest in peace

The US spent possibly two trillion dollars in Afghanistan and Iraq from 2002-2020 while many American cities have crumbling infrastructure(ie.. Jackson,MS, Detroit, Flint,MI and so many many more). Scott you were fighting Ju wars, the wars they wanted you to fight(FACT).

I was in Afghanistan on my second tour in 05 and he played American Soldier at Bagram and the noise everyone made was incredible.That song made me get goosebumps and I was proud to be serving.

Sammy is in INCREDIBLY great shape for 75 years old, I hope he stays around for many more. Always loved his good energy, glad he got to make peace with Eddie before he passed.
WOW.. so I guess that makes him 76 now, and still looks amazing for his age. I never realized that's how old he is. Life had been very kind to him in the aging department for sure.

Met Toby in San Antonio where his kid was playing as a Freshman in the Army All Star Football game as we all stayed in the same hotel for the week. Incredible man and as down to earth as he is here. Met a lot of celebrities in my life, but few as genuine as Toby. What a good dude.

This man and his band are truly loved by our military. To us he's as American as Old Glory and the Eagle! I remember he played a show for us one night and we got mortared or bombed if you will. They played on after an attack and clear was given, like nothing happened. Think about that. No doubt they were scared who wouldn't be? Probably never hear him mention it but I was there. You're an exceptional man Mr. Keith God bless this man and his family.

I am a veteran that was serving when 9/11 happened. That's the time he decided he was an American badass. Fuck Toby Keith. He exploited all of us for album sales and recognition. He should have been over there getting blown apart by IEDs instead of the honorable men and women I was over there with.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Toby a speedy recovery and personally thank him for his hospitality and allowing me and the 2nd Chance Band out of OKC for allowing us to perform on this stage for the last several years. Also, his generosity has allowed us to raise a considerable amount of money for several community outreach programs benefiting our local youth.

@Toby Keith ♪ you have a lot of acreage. And you like to start businesses. Have you ever thought about setting some of that acreage aside for a tiny house village for the elderly?
There is federal funding available. And you already have the land. Therefore, I don't think you would even need a lot of investment capital. To produce this tiny house village.
I have kids that live in nearby Norman, and once when visiting them we stopped at Hollywood Corners to eat. The food was great, the service was excellent, and I highly recommend this place to anyone passing through the Moore Oklahoma area. You won't be disappointed!

I was lucky enough to catch Sammy and Toby, at the Cabo Wabo a few years ago, for a free show, jamming to so many different tunes with the Cabo Wabo house band. It was awesome! We had only wanted to visit the famous Cabo Wabo for a drink and later that night we saw the show. What a gift. I have been a Sammy fan since he was playing with Ronnie Montrose. Bad Motor Scooter, baby!
I grew up just a few miles down the road from that gas station/store. I remember getting peanut brittle and cokes with my grandpa there. Filling up the minnow bucket with my dad. The people there really are as nice as they say and the food even better. Thanks Toby for keeping it alive and Sammy you are Rock and Rolls nicest and greatest treasure.

It's just minutes after I heard of Toby's passing.... I really was rooting for him ... I pass by his house almost everyday...it's totally amazing almost endless and on both sides of the road....he did very well for himself and later very charitable...he wasn't so loyal to his band mates who helped create "I should have been a cowboy" and for that I never was a fan...but I did appreciate his patriotic stance .
In the end it didn't matter how much money he had...health is wealth

Well, I've always been a Sammy fan, since he was the Red Rocker. I was a rock guy but I loved Toby's songs. The news of Toby's passing brought me here to see them together. I am glad they were friends.

Hollywood Corners is about a mile from where I grew up off of Franklin Rd. It use to be a gas station/convenience store/bait shop and was the place to go on the way out to the lake. It fell into the wrong hands for awhile and got trashed, then Toby bought it and turned it into something awesome. They have the best sandwiches around. It's a good place with a good atmosphere and I take my 84 year old mother there all the time.
Toby sounds like Meryl Haggard, and Jimmy Buffet combined, and no wonder he sounded so good!

Growing up in the 60's and 70's, our Dine Apache's Mother's Father would drive from Oklahoma to New Jersey to take his only daughter and 6 kids back to Oklahoma for the summer. The first time Mom and I heard Toby Keith she was giggling and saying, 'He's a Sooner!' My Okie Girl Sooner MaMa took Her Spirit Journey before Toby came to Camden, New Jersey. And when he did come to Jersey I knew this was going to be my 7 year old son's first concert. For the next 14 years the Toby Keith concert in NJ was as anticipated and excitable as Christmas. The roots one has with Oklahoma is a solid soul loving and loyal heartbeat. Toby Keith shared his soul roots in a small venue in New Jersey that enriched our existence and brought our family home to our Oklahoma heartland. Over the past 19 years, our family ended an annual softball tournament with a candle light vigil that honored my sister's Firefighter Army Tanker Soldier with 'American Soldier". Although we have never 'met' Toby Keith, He was Family to us. "As I leave the Earth Among the stars I soar. Rising higher to Thee I cannot ask for more. Getting ready to see Travis tritt , Ted nugent and kid rock this weekend. Wondering how time flies by so fast. Wishing it would slow down. We truly do live in the best fing country in the world. I'm not so sure about our government. .They take emergency food stamps away , only to give 40 billion to Ukraine. This is a country that isn't even in NATO and has questionable ties to Biden and son. .The drug companies , however , are doing great. .We really seem to love war ..Those are some of the problems I have with this once-great nation .

I sit and watch this videos today crying by the end of every one. Dear Toby, I never got the privilege of telling you Thank You for all that you have meant to me, my fellow Okies, and of course the United States Military. You have been and still are the epitome of what I believe every Okie should be. If you can’t hear me as I say this words hopefully I will get the chance when I join you in the not too distant future, you see my body is also “weathered and worn. Thanks again and love you sir! That brought a few chuckles to me seeing the two of them have fun. Toby reminds me of one of my high school buddies who is always laughing and a well built dude but maybe not quite as big as Toby. This also made me feel a bit of loss wishing he could have stayed another 20 years to make and play his music. It is important to cherish and keep enjoying his work not just to keep him alive but more so because it does your soul good if you were a fan. Never met the man or saw him live but he made you feel attached to him.
