- Today Christian brings you a cool upcycle tutorial. Ever have a pair of jeans that doesn't fit, got ripped too many times, or you just don't wear? well, here's a solution that will make you or someone in your life very happy.
Christian needed an apron for grilling and for the cooking segments over at / afterschoolshow , and decided to make his own. Sure, he bought a pair of jeans at the thrift store (seriously, they have so many size and style choices), but that's still upcycling, right? Follow along with the easy steps to make your own.
Share pics of YOUR creations by tagging Christian on / dadsews or / dadsews - He'd LOVE to see your finished project!

That was fantastic! A real good use of old jeans.
J. R Hartley thanks for the encouragement!
lovey video but you didn’t show the final product on you or anywhere : /
I didn't get to see it finished. Where is it???
I would have loved to see the back of the apron. You talked about the waistband and button, but, you never showed us. I loved your project, but, could you just follow-up with pic of the finished apron? Loved it, though....
Amazon had this vid as part of their giveaway entries. I don't care about the entry but gosh I want more of this! Subscribed!
AWESOME! Glad you stopped by!
Awesome! I think you need to make matching oven mitts! #tutorialidea
showducky81 very interesting
this video was a waist of time, dude didn’t even show how he made the apron 🤦🏻♀️ glad I forwarded it all the way
Great gift idea! I love your apron video!
Neat project!
Thank you!
If they are very large jeans, like a 42" waist, each leg will make an apron?
One more comment! Why’d you pick the pockets out??? Why didn’t you just cut around the pocket with a 1” -1 1/2” of extra fabric just, just just at the top fold it over a bit to make a hem and then just sew around the three sides! Then you’d have a 2 TWO compartment pocket..... Sooo cool! Dude what a lot of extra work.. well you did it perfect. Great look. Oh and plus you could have sectioned off the back pocket and VOILA a lot of pocket. ROFLMAO!!!
Ok, so I need to make this happen!!

That was cool. But you left out the waist tie (or belt, or whatever). I'll just have to make that part up. ;) Love your slogan, "Sew, Fail, Repeat".
I really like this idea. I am def gonna make this apron. I still wear Levis. Been my fav since I was a teen. And yeah...I get really nice Levis at the Goodwill! :0)

My fav great aunt worked at Levi Straus for 25 plus years whe I was a child 50 plus years ago. She wore her denim blue sapphire service ring with pride. I miss her!😢
Her hands were permanently stained Levi blue.
Trying to see the whole look. Did I miss it, Because he was talking so much, I thought I missed it. I will do it with old jeans but use another style and video.
I'm need to do this.
D Diaz tag me when you do!
Definitely! I keep all my ripped jeans, and my girls are messy painters...so this is a win-win for me.
Great video Dad! Inspires me to make one for our BBQ Master!
YOU CAN DO IT!
I think I'll cut it wide enough to keep the belt loops intact, because I can imagine uses for them: (a) hold earbud wires out of my work zone; (b) hang pens and tools off of; etc.
Great, i love it
you are amazing
Naina Nabhan rhanks so much!
Pretty cool idea. I'm not sure why you didn't just sew both pant legs together to get wider fabric if you wanted a bigger apron though. 🤷♀️. Also, get yourself a pair of Gingher sewing shears. Very high quality, and the company with sharpen them for you whenever they need it.
Very Nice, but the music is terrible
I love it !
I think I might try this. I have some jeans that are in retirement. For the length did you just cut below the back pocket? I even have a denim skort, skirt with shorts, that I upcycled. I added some eyelet lace to the edge. I love it, but I have to do something to it cause it's rather worn. Any ideas I could do with it?
Maybe try bias tape for the worn bit? I moved my pattern around until I was cutting the easiest part of the fabric and was sure to seamrip and remove excess pieces.
Also with some jeans that are out there. Especially for women, they have quite a bit of stretch to them. I know it's easier to work with men's jeans as they don't have as much give in them as women's do. However what kind of needle would be preferred when working with women's jeans? A denim needle or a stretch needle? Unfortunately not all jeans are created equal these days. Are there any other tips for this as I don't have a machine that start off with a comma and at least 3 zeros after it? It works great as a beginner, but I wonder if a project like this might be beyond not only my skill level and/or the capability of my machine.
Dad Sews, well I finished the apron. It took some work but it’s finished. zutarafan4evea.deviantart.com/art/Apron-738358345
Thanks for the great ideas. Just subscribed so send me a sewing machine so my wife won't scream when I try and use hers, lol. Kind Regards. ABCIII
This is a 6yr old vid. It's 2024 and sweatshirts at thrift stores are $8 bucks. Didn't check out the price of jeans
USA stole all our goodwills and now our second hand jeans cost 24.95 and that's the cheapest pair. Price is different per pair. And that's 24.95 cnd
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
I really thought you’d have yourself and your BEAUTIFUL children dressed in some of your creations! Sewn ones of fabric preferably!!!! ROFLMAO. Big Mama Jammas??? Another Roflmao!! Really GREAT Video... Great plug for Fiskars!! Any free fiskar items coming or came your way?????? LOLOLOLOL Bye dude. Lookin forward to the next Video... Vegan Levi’s. Not originally that way. Mr Levi would be rollin over.....LOL Again LOL
HAHA Thanks so much for dropping by Makyrie!
I enjoyed this video. I would have liked to have been able to see you wearing your apron. Not just the bib. Big disappointment.
I don't think I recommend carrying a pair of shears in the chest pocket. seems dangerous.
I do appreciate how you made the apron but your "fun facts" and "brand dropping" is too much. Your video would be half the length just by not talking so much and just show more of your technique.
i disagree
Over talking nonsense.
