    I'm happy with that result, but honestly a bit surprised haha... Carthage is my favorite faction in Rome, but I always felt like their strength was "strategic" rather than "tactical" -- Carthage's specific roster isn't that great (except elephants, which are objectively awesome and I do not care if they are cost effective or not haha), but if you manage the campaign map macroeconomy well, and then you can do things like spam mercenaries at the enemy until they're dead xD ... it's nice to see Poeni Infantry actually perform somewhat effectively in their role hahaha

      Carthage has some quality units, especially the Sacred Band :) ... it's just their early tier units are very poor in comparison with other factions.

      @@ТотсамыйАдольф Because Sacred Band are only available in Public Order Temple buildings, are more expensive, and take two turns which is especially hard in the early game when the rest of your infantry is so much worse meaning what few Sacred Band you get will have their flanks exposed and eventually be surrounded. Poeni Infantry balance your more Elite Sacred Band so they are not the sole infantry unit keeping your battle line intact and perform their job well and are more easily available when they can be recruited due to only taking one turn.

      @@rorschach1985ifyв начале игры вы пехотой не воюете,а к середине у вас сицилия и африка в руках,денег море,города крутые,и можете штамповать банду хоть везде.Храмы кстати дешевле казарм,и строятся быстрее.Смысл пунийской пехоты в том,чтобы продержать гарнизон в свежезахваченном городе,пока отстраиваете храмы.Для полевого боя вам хватит прекрасной кавалерии и слонов с минимумом фаланги,а значит вы обязаны покупать лучшее

    • @rorschach1985ify
      @rorschach1985ify 13 дней назад +1

      @ I disagree. I found the economy gets bad when you just start recruiting all those units in the early game as Carthage due to the high upkeep for elites like Sacred Band and especially Elephants, which BTW, are only available in your North African settlements, and therefore take longer to get to the frontlines. Not to mention with how most of Carthage's settlements are underdeveloped and need building up to get decent units, you can't just spam Temple buildings in all of them, you need some trade and farming temples to help them developed before you can start getting the right build requirements. You kind of do need infantry just to not have a hard or boring time with sieges and Elephants are going to taking time and being expansive to recruit and that's if the AI does not cause those early game Elephants to run amok thanks to fire arrows making them as harmful to you as the enemy. They struggle even harder in cities thanks to crappy pathfinding and don't get me started on how badly VH makes even your light cav and smaller Elephants almost useless thanks to the huge buff the AI gets. Poeni are viable to get you a decent army that can support your smaller and harder to get elite units like Sacred Band.

    So, cost for cost Poeni Infantry are better than Pharaoh's Guard. Makes sense, while they are worse in general battle sense, they are better in the campaign as well due to being cheaper and only taking one turn which means you can get more of them faster than you would other tier 4 infantry units. Underpowered as they are, Poeni Infantry is still good and is more useful to their specific faction than Pharoah's Guard is for Egypt since the only real purpose for Pharoah's Guard beside the typical anti-cav function to protect the Archers, the real killers of the Egyptian army, is doing slightly better against higher quality infantry units which it almost never does. Nile Spearmen could perform the first part of their job fine and you can always use Cavalry, Chariots, and Archers to help make up for the lack of killing power for the Spearmen whereas Poeni Infantry are the only other Phalanx unit available for Carthage beside Sacred Band and they are easier to recruit when the right building is available than the latter so they can help fill out your armies to better support the more powerful but more expansive and longer to recruit Sacred Band.
