Thank god mines still works for the Am5’s and don’t need to get a new cooler. This is the same motherboard I’m getting too. Thanks for making this video 👊🏽🙏🏽😊
hey would you recommend this cooler over an AIO (specifically corsair icue h100i) for the 7900x? just about to build my first pc with the cpu and want to make sure i get the right type of cooler
Frankly I tried to use one h100i some time ago, and I really didn't like. Not the performance, but the whole mess of cable and the fact that there is no way to control fans and pump without the corsair software. And it is quite loud at max speed. This Noctua U12A Chromax Black may not necessarily be better as performance, but IMO it is way easier to install and use and notably quieter, though nowhere near completely quiet.
@@SteDiGaming sure, that's always an option. I put forward my question because it seemed as if you would need to remove the CPU cooler first in order to get access to the PCIe5.0 slot. that is some tedious work and would require cleaning the CPU before applying new thermal paste. therefore, I was curious if there is any benefit in placing the PCIe4.SSD into the PCIe5.0 slot. is there?
@@embreis2257Eh, it's a 5 minute job, so no hassle, I do that every few days at least once and sometimes a few times a day with the test systems ;) . Unless you are planning to do it in the next few days, there is not much difference, and in a few months it's better to repaste the CPU anyway. Also the Gen5 slot is directly connected to the CPU, so it theoretically offers bet latency and performance, even for Gen4 and lower drives. Rest of the slots go through chipset, so should be tiny bit slower. Though it shouldn't matter in general.
@@SteDiGaming thx for answering. much appreciated. 👍 maybe for you this is no hassle as you do it every day. for me, it hits a bit different. my current core-I7 dates back to 2012 and is about to get replaced with a new rig soon - but it still runs without any issue on thermal paste applied in 2012.
Hey, im stuck around 4:42 , how do you tighten the heatsink and what type of screwdriver are you using? When I do it it's not tightening and attaching to the CPU
You can use the screw driver that comes with the cooler. But you need to align the screw with the bracket, so it can bite. And may be apply some force to get it started. And don't tighten it until the end in one go. Just let it bite and do 1-2 more repetitions to secure, then get the other one. After that alternate with few repetition between until both are tightened.
I think if you have AM4 brackets you should be fine. Though there is also a new specific AM5 mounting with offset, so the center of the base is centered on the CCD chips, so it should be slightly more efficient.
The temps are about 93-94 C in Cinebench, as should be expected according to AMD. The tower is just barely warm, so no problem dissipating, all the problem is taking the heat from the chip. And this has *7* heatpipes... For gaming it is in the 70ties, so no problems there. Also it's easy to fix the temps... just hit it with 105 W TDP power values and you loose 2-3% Cinebench score and temps drop to 77 C max.
For 7800X3D you will be better with NH-U12A, because it is a lot more compact and will not give you much difference in temps. And it is still overkill financially. Then in general D15 is better, due to it's size, but to get that difference, you need to LOAD it hard, so 7950X or 13900 or whatever goes over 200 W power. 7800X3D doesn't goes over 90 W even in rendering loads. A lot of coolers will do nicely. For example I use with it currently Thermal Right Peerless Assassin SE120, which is probably half the price of the Noctua U12A, but about the same or slightly better performance.
I have this board. Getting a 7950X3D chip. I like this cooler for the size. I wonder if you turn the cooler the other way that the fan on the VRM will miss it. It will put the other fan closer to RAM . The cooler is offset I will not be using all 4 RAM slots
I don’t understand how your fans don’t fall off. I’ve been trying to install these damn fans for 2 hours. I can’t figure out how those clips keep the fans from falling off the heat sink. I’m losing my mind
Mount the clips on the fan. Place fan at the radiator. Pull clips away from the fan, while slightly pressing them to the sides of the radiator and the middle part of the clip should lodge on the side hooks of the radiator fins. Once you do it once it is extremely easy. 5:00

Yes, all coolers that use the standard socket backplate for AM4 should be compatible with AM5. So GLHF.
I didn't know AM4 and AM5 mounting solutions were so similar.
Thanks for clearing that up!
AMD specifically did it to keep compatibility of coolers.
Thanks for the video I found it quite helpful
You are welcome!

I'm sure you've made your choice but I don't think either is enough for a 7900x. You'd be better off with a larger Kraken or similar.
2:58 did you use the PCe5.0 slot for the PCe4.0 SSD drive?
what if the board has other slots too and you plan to install a proper PCe5.0 SSD later?
Yes, there is no problem with that. And if I later install Gen5 SSD, then I'll just move the current one on some of the other slots.

That slight offset doesn't make a difference for cooling. If you turn it around, it will suck more hot air from the GPU.

Is AM5 is compatible with AM4 compatible coolers?
Yes. As long as you they don't come with a backplate. There is already one which holds the socket so can't add another one.
