Please don't be rude about people that just want to be halfway healthy.
It is a thing, my mother has non-celiac gluten sensitivity and is incredibly lactose intolerant, and I have a friend with celiac. And both of them find it really annoying that there are so many self-diagnosed idiots out there.

Some of my latch key recipes were: toaster oven cooked sandwich bread with butter, garlic powder, cheese; add pasta sauce for pizza, use English muffins or pita bread when possible; spaghetti with a brick of cheese in the sauce; my first latch key baking project? Green carrot muffins (food coloring) without the sugar. 7 year old me forgot to add the sugar!
I was the baby as well, with 7 & 10 years between me and my sister & brother. My Dad comes from a big Maritime, mostly RC family, and has spent most of his life in our small fishing village (as have I) to give a bit of cultural context. If I could have had one more sibling, I wish it could have been you, Stephen Colbert. Thank you for making me smile so often! :)

I too was a latchkey kid my meal of choice was a "Smushed Cheese" sandwich... Two slices of white bread, a piece of kraft american cheese, heated in the microwave and then smushed.

Sigh, those were the days when single mothers were not persecuted for their situation. Now a days if you got caught letting your kids fend for themselves until you got back from work you would be charged with endangerment or neglect. Ppl in society suck today.
shredded mozzarella cheese from the ball of fresh mozzarella on a plate, melted in the microwave till part of it started to get a little brown, then just a fork and, heaven!
Or if big brother was there the oven broiler was on, white American cheese on a piece of bread and toasted in broiler till a little brown on top, called them cheese things! nothing better!
So that'll be the new Colbert at the deli.

My sandwich was banana slices with miracle whip dressing.
My favourite was apple and mars bar.
Get Pop Tarts heat them up, put peanut butter on the bottom of both the pop tarts and then add sugar and make you a sandwich out of it with a big glass of milk.

The "how" should be self-explanatory. The "why" was probably because they were Catholic in the 50s and early 60s. Pre-Vatican 2, any birth control was a sin. Post V2, people could schedule around their cycles to try to avoid getting pregnant. (I am 8th of 13)
