Hispanic or not, Gentefied is a great show. Actors deliver both the comedy and drama. And the way the whole show comes across feels like you’re really part getting a glimpse into the lives living in a neighborhood community.

I enjoyed the book "American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures" (collection of essays from many cross-culture American icons, I believe she's the editor, and also contributed a story of her own) and loved S2 of Gentified - S1 was good too but the storylines and writing in S2 were tighter and cleaner. Really well done. She is a treasure. Also really liked what she and Stephen discussed, basically that politics is not just on election year - in fact, democracy and politics is more than just elections. This interview could've been waaaay longer in my opinion :)

I gave my t.v. away in '93... (and not because of Bruce's '57 Channels and Nothing's On), so I've never seen this young woman's show or her performance, but she is an absolutely wonderful person... her Italian Menorah story had me smiling.
she's brilliant in ugly betty, a career-making show for her, and gentefied is on netflix, it's the BOMB. i didn't realize it was back for a 2nd season - i'm gonna start watching it right now! i may be biased as a native los angeleno (though not latinx), but it's so SO good. funny, sweet, witty, well-written - and it's goddamn refreshing to see the story of REAL angelenos on the screen, not just the rich white folks who live on the westside that make the rest of the world think LA is nothing but juice bars and yoga zombies, ugh.

The first season of Gentefied had more of a real-life feel to it. The 2nd season just felt like it was an attempt to put as many liberal views as possible out there, as possible. I'm a fairly liberal guy myself, but it definitely took away from the reality of life in the barrio.
It's considered derogatory and people won't stop using it. Latinos do not accept this term especially as it keeps getting forced on them. Stephen should know better.

(Sorry for missing the critical noun in my initial post). The primary guest is shown from head-to-toe, completely FULL BODY from when they walk from behind the "curtain" and when they walk up the steps to the desk area to the interview chair. Basically, the whole body is continuously displayed except for when the primary guest physically meets Colbert. (hug, handshake, high-five, etc) Adam Driver was the primary guest for this particular show. He is very tall, so watching his entrance is a bad example. Go back and watch some of the other entrances for primary guests. You will see what I mean.

You should check out the Columbian original series, the Mexican remake or the other handful of Latin American versions. They are terrific.
