    Jingles is so lucky to have such a great environment. His reaction is so cute and expected. I don’t blame him for feeling very uncomfortable up there because with clipped wings as you know, not only he cannot fly, the balance is quite off hence the spreading of his wings on the spiral rope . My Blueberry was exactly like Jingles when he first came home with clipped wings and met my Mango. Guess what, I reacted the same way as you except I was able to be right next to them since my play areas are lower and some on the ground. Blueberry was quite clumsy and uncoordinated with the clipped wings but Mango became his mentor and showed him how to fly when his flight feather grew back, where the boundaries are in the home and the house rules. LOL Is Monti the only cockatiel that you have now or is there other cockatiels that Jingles haven’t met yet?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 лет назад +2

      Yes Monty is the only Cockatiel at the moment, I hope Jingles flight feathers grow in soon. That's cute about Mango

    • @teardropface
      @teardropface 5 лет назад +2

      Depending on when (moulting timing and which flight feather. One time I left my birds at the boarders for a planned and very overdue family vacation. I specifically instructed that my birds are not to be clipped during that one week’s stay. An instruction label was put on the cage with the birds’ names, stating they are boarders and no clipping. They also promised that my birds will get their daily out of cage time like the other avian boarders onto a huge floor to ceiling Java tree. I found out not only my birds didn’t get to go out of their cages, my Mango’s wings were clipped. The owner apologized immediately when I saw my Mango at pick up time. She told me one of the other birds escaped one day and out of panic, she went to each cage to clip every bird. I pointed out that specific instructions were left not to clip and there’s a label on the cage stating not to clip ! Mango was devastated coming back home, not being able to fly, dropping like a sack of rocks to the ground with every attempt. It took a year for the last flight feather to grow back. Usually flight feathers can grow back within 6 months but Mango’s last clipped flight feather didn’t drop off until a year later. During that time, he was able to fly but with that last flight feather being that late to drop out, he was a little off balanced although he is a strong flyer.

    I'm sure in time they will get used to each other. I put my new conure in with my older one and was love at first sight. He started to groom her. She is still been hand fed so only goes in with him for short periods. I have had my hands full this Christmas. Have a wild dove with an injured leg now ready to be released and got a baby house sparrow about 4 days old. Had sparrow now for two weeks and is doing very well. Never a dull moment in my house. 😄❤️

Thought we were making progress but she dosbt want to come out of her cage anymore and when she does come out all she wants to do is sit high up on something or go back to her cage. She wants nothing to do with me or any treats accept a little bit of millet. She’s very territorial of her cage too :/

    Hi, so Monty doesn't seem to like new baby. Will that change with time?
    I have a 12 year old cockatiel. He has an injured wing from a previous owner ( ring worm apparently). He doesn't fly or glide. For his safety, I have him set up in a tv room with a door. He can come out and play on a large table I have set up for him with low perches, toys and hidden treats. I would like to get another one but my family insists he is better off on his own, doing his little thing. He likes his routine, doesn't like change, an doesn't like hands in his cage. If I change anything, he looses his little mind and screams at me. What do you think? Should I get him a cockatiel friend? He makes a sad cry sound when I leave the room or if he hears anyone talking. He also masturbates like 10 times a day on his perch. Don't know if that's normal? ??

    • @teardropface
      @teardropface 5 лет назад +1

      I would love to hear what Loveofpets’ opinion on this too.
      I have been a budgie owner for nearly 50 years. If your cockatiel has always been a lone bird and very attached to you or other members of the family, there is a high chance that another cockatiel may not bring him companionship but competitiveness in my opinion especially when he has an injured wing and have limitations. Birds are very intelligent and will detect any type of illness/handicap/disadvantages in another bird immediately and will take advantage to the point of bullying. Unless you luck out and get a cockatiel that has a nurturing nature and your existing cockatiel will accept that type of nurturing. If you want to bring in another cockatiel and try, just be prepared if they don’t get along and need to be in separate cages and play referee a lot.
      A young bird’s energy is very different from an older bird’s. A bird around the same age as yours may be more compatible but again it’s the injured wing, limitations and the inability to fly or glide is a huge concern.
      I put on soft easy music from the radio for the times where there is no one at home so my birds won’t get lonely and rotate different toys. Hope this helps.

    • @thequaileans4690
      @thequaileans4690 5 лет назад +2

      teardropface
      right, that makes sense. He is not bonded to any of us. He likes my husband because he can whistle back but he just does his own thing and plays all day on the table. His cage door is always open. No one ever picks him up. If we offer our hand or a perch, he runs into his cage. I'm happy knowing he's happy and safe. I do leave music or a cartoon movie on for him. I used to have the 80's station on for him but my husband says he prefers classical. Lol!

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 лет назад

      It's a 50/ 50 chance you would take. Some birds like to hear and be near other birds but don't like to interact with them. It's best to get a bird for yourself and not a friend for your bird, if they get along then it's a bonus. Play some RUclips video with cockatiels and show him and see what he does.

    • @thequaileans4690
      @thequaileans4690 5 лет назад

      Love of Pets
      well it's a tough decision. I would love another bird for myself but I would want him to have the whole house and not be confined to a room. I keep this one in the tv room for his safety because he is disabled. Teardropface made a good point that the new bird might pick on him because of his weakness.... if its not a nurturing bird by nature. She also suggest getting an older bird, not a baby. Then I might be stuck with another bird that is stuck in his ways.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 лет назад

      That can happen with weaker birds but you never know unless you try. I let my birds out together and they are fine but they will fight in the same cage so if there is space for each bird to get away then it may work.
      It's a hard decision to make.
