Just wanted to add a HUUUUUUGE THANK YOU. Surface Pro 2017 with almost no use went into the loop and I was convinced it was scrap. Followed your simple instructions and its completely fixed - at the least you have saved me a couple of hundred pounds for a repair technician, at best a couple of thousand pounds on a new machine. I am very very grateful to you for making this video!

Thank you so MUCH!!! I replaced the SSD a couple days ago and tried to restore my drive. My Surface Pro X would not recognize the usb-c drive, so I was stuck. Your video got me back on track. 512 Western Digital SSD now installed and everything is working well.
My SP4 was not loading files from USB because I copy pasted the entire extracted zip folder into the USB. The issue was resolved when I only copied file of the extracted folder. The system was not detecting boot files because they were inside the folder.
I purchased a used surface pro 4 today.
I just learned to install the windows from you. Thank you so much. God bless you.

For my surface go tablet, i did exactly this. Got to the point of doing everything in this video correctly, thought that i fixed the issue and as soon as i turned on my tablet, it said that there was still no bootable device. At this point i think i might just sell the tablet to someone for parts and get a new one, thanks for the video, it did help. But not for my tablet
The only video that helped me to set up my Surface Pro 7 out of the other thousands of Video i watched . Just one thing - while starting i pressed the power and volume down button which lead me to the screen . The rest was as per the video help . Many thanks for the video .

I'm having the same problem where I don't want my school work to be deleted or removed :/ From the "Recover from a drive" part, did u click on "Just remove my files" instead of fully clean the drive? I wanna make sure I don't lose all my data either and I don't quite understand!! 🥺

I followed it to the step where the red unlock bar appears, but then it goes back to the UEFI screen. What should I do next?
I don’t know what’s the problem when it start restoring it stops immediately and says there was a problem during recovery

I got up to the part 2:11 but after that my surface is on the screen with the red unlock bar on top but my flashdrive isn't blinking like yours and nothing is happening, there's no loading circle or anything. What should I do?

Hi guys! I met this issue then searched on youtube how to fix it and i found this video. I've read all the comments here. I had a problem too at the last step.
"there was a problem or sth when recovering your PC".
I had no idea. Then i chose "cancel" then "turn your Pc off". But i couldnt give up so i powered it on again. I didn't remember exactly but i might do it one or twice. Then. So surprised and happy cause it worked. Omg.

Didn't work for me. I'm not sure if I did the boot drive wrong, loaded windows wrong, or my Surface is just too corrupted.

He left out one step.. you have to move Boot from drive to the top of the list

Tried the same steps, still not working, it tells me "there was a problem resetting your PC. no changes were made." also tried some commands in prompt and there's no response. I got something like "the boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found" Also I'm stuck here in this dir (x:\windows \system32>) I couldn't change the dir to "C". I tested some commands like (bcdedit and Fixmbr) and (diskpart to change the dir and I get "the system partition was not found") and NOTHING.
Do you think my surface hard drive has gone for good =(
The only option left is the disk yes, but even there might not be 100%

Hi, At 2 38 you show an option recover from a drive, but this option isn't shown. (Surface pro 4)
Once i add the USB drive and click on "recover from a drive"it says "System drive "Unable to reset your PC. The system drive cannot be found". any help?
so I downloaded the recovery image file from a macbook and followed each step but it didn't work still -_- is it cause I have a mac and I need to download the files from a windows pc or what? wtf lol
No u don't need windows, but you need to extract the file
Just curious? I've seen about a dozen troubleshooting tips and tricks and a bunch of questions regarding the data. I work for a company where we have a stock of Surface for our users. No pressure to replace a unit if need be. I want to know about "data recovery"? Is there a way to save the data? That's my question? Folks are giving you lots of "High Five" but will this get me to a place to retrieve or restore data?
If you ever get into this state, the only way to restore the data I would say is to remove the ssd and then recover it externaly, otherwise I would say no way, as doing this will delete everything

Hopfully you see this. I have tried using the flashdrive to recover but every time i try resetting it or recovery, it crashes. I cant try to fix the crashes because now it only boots from the drive and not windows 10. Do you have any ideas of what I should do?

What's worse, I accidentally deleted Windows Boot Manager on the boot options. Now I can't seem to load windows. Before, windows can load although it will take an amount of time before that can happen.

The problem might be deeper than just a windows install maybe. Like ssd or ram don't really know

Bro I’m using a external hard drive as a recovery disk and it just keeping restart again and again.
Why it got stuck in bootloop tho?
SSD bad probably and when too many problems from crashes it will not boot windows anymore

on the top right of the BIOS you can see the reason or, what made it go to BIOS. If you went to the bios with buttons, you will see the buttons. If you see a HDD then it means it could not boot because corrupted installation or does not have an OS installed
So if there are important files I want to keep, I shouldn't do this?

What if there are 3 products to download instead of only 1?
It suggests 3 different S Mode Versions (1703, 1709 and 1803)🤔
The 1703 was the original one but any of them will do the job

Also i have question about the version of the file. When I entered the serian number it gave me to version of the backup file ( i downloaded the most recent version) does it make any difference?
You have to unzip the iso file to the USB drive. It should not make a difference the version

Hi! I did everything as shown in the video but the files in the usb don't work. The red lock is still on and is still in a loop... Any idea what else could I do?
The red lock means the bios is locked, it will not read the usb

This tutorial worked for me but with two small details, the USB drive must be at least 16GB and the image file must be the oldest one, because first I tried with the newest one and it didn't work. Important you must unzip it and not copy it.

Press and hold the volume-up button on your Surface and at the same time, press and release the power button. When you see the Surface logo, release the volume-up button.

If it goes to uefi, means the USB drive is made correctly, you could try a windows pc, but don't think thats the problem

in the video you have that disk icon with the cross on the right top in the UEFI settings. I thought it means the SSD is damaged. I have the same problem. I can install Win 10.
It means windows can't boot or that there is problem, I don't think disk is damaged, but might be

My surface book 2 has done this 9 times now. Twice i had to call microsoft and was on the phone for HOURS because i didnt have an extra pc to do all this.

Hi. I had the same problem. I followed all steps to fix. Everything was okay till troubleshoot. I tried both recover options but it was not going to recovery. Notification was given as there was a problem while recovering... Is there any alternative option to solve the problem?

Mine still loops... The red lock unlocks and then the loading symbol comes on - everything goes off - red lock again, loading symbol again - off.... and so on :(
