I love how polite you are when you express how something sucks. You are still a gentleman. I definitely don’t have that control in life. I need to walk away because I will offend and come off very crass. Solute to you
I try to be as diplomatic as possible because I realize my wants/needs might or do differ from others, so maybe my issues won't be someone else's. But thanks for noticing.
Alfa Romeo of TV’s, Love it.
Andrew Thank you. I love how emotional your reviews are. You really put it out their and are so in depth. Other reviewers don't spend enough time with the products or run them through what you do. So you find things out like the hdmi handshake sucks. Or the how the different content looks. Thank you for stopping me from making a huge mistake.
Appreciate the comment and I'm so glad our video was useful to you.
Would be great to see Hisense's reaction to these issues plaguing such a great TV.
They've been made aware so the ball is in their court.
For the record, we reached out to Hisense via our contact, who arranged for the TV to be sent. So far, Hisense's only response has been that they are "unable to replicate" the issues we have experienced. Unfortunately, dealing with a go-between like this makes it challenging to troubleshoot problems. You'd think a brand would want to talk directly with a reviewer if there was even the slightest possibility they had a bad unit or were just experiencing tech issues. Maybe making it hard to connect with the manufacturer is by design...I struggle to understand the reasoning.
@@KristiWrightYup I had the same experience I called 10x finally got through to upper management. But no real resolution besides a repair fix and possible replacement in the near future but no guarantee. You can bet your bottom dollar other brands take care of there customers no questions asked. Simple and plain you send me a very defective unit now make it right and send me a new replacement it should be easy not like pulling teeth. You know customer service goes along way with loyalty and repeat customer. If its wrong make it right Hisense!!!
Such a shame this HDMI issue still plagues Hisense - which was why I decided on the LG 75QLED85 / calibration required, but never a CEC issue with multiple components I tested on it. And frankly, if a TV can't handle SDR, or sports for this price, there's simply no excuse for this behavior.
Andrew - are you interested in testing the new Sharp Aquos XLED? I'm seriously interested in this, and it's great to see Sharp back on their own producing their own panels and SOC.
@@birdtj82I tried everything nothing works . Motion off is even worse sports are unwatchable. I have had multiple screen issues as well. It’s definitely the processor in my opinion it cant keep with the unit. I really love the 4k picture but everything else is unwatchable and low bit content looks very jaggy as well. I really wanted to love it but I cant keep a Tv with qc problems like this!!
This review basically sums up for all the Hisense TVs'. Pictures looks great, even better than Samsung's Qled models and Sony's X80 and X85 models but motions and processing kills the vibe.
Yep. I returned a U7K because despite the fact I loved certain things about it, the motion, especially with dark colors, was too blurry/smeary while playing games on it, and the G-Sync was too stuttery and produced too many artifacts in certain games, games which my TCL and Samsung run near flawlessly with VRR.
I thought this was a car review, got excited Andrew is doing car reviews now. Should be your next channel, I can see you killing it with car reviews.
That is something we'd love to do...
Car reviews are a LOT of work and way harder to do right than I think people realize. But boy would I LOVE to do one.
Nice review! In the past I owned a Hisense 55q7. I also had a problem with hdmi conection to media player. Hisense said the problem is not on their side, so I switched to Lg C1. Since than no problems at all.
I’m glad you went into thorough detail on the software performance. I bought an expensive TV a few years ago and non of the reviews I watched commented how slow the OS was.
Great review by the way.
I love your content so much! I’m new to your channel but you do an amazing Job on your reviews. Great work my man !
I appreciate that!
I already have a tv I love. Samsung QDOLED. I still enjoy hearing your thoughts on what’s out there. Cheers
Was going to give you a happy "fall back" Sunday morning Andrew and Kristi but just remembered Arizona doesn't do DST. No extra hours of sleep for you! Happy Sunday anyway!
Afternoon Andrew and Kristi
Morning KJ! Hope your weekend is going well! Thanks for tuning in.
Oooh, thanks for the honest comments on this tv’s issue.
Always!
Hey Andrew and Kristi! I noticed you mentioned the Sonos ARC. Will a review be coming soon?! I don’t think I’ve seen you guys review the bar yet, unless I missed it… I’ve been waiting, lol.
Anyway great video as always!
Hey Andrew,
Long time viewer, first-time commentor. You HDMI issue with the Hisense, this same issue occurs on the 65U7G. Rarity event, but kills sound. The rest works. I think you are right. Software.
While people may not "like" this review, more and more people are commenting that they've experienced similar issues on all Hisense TVs which doesn't give me a good feeling about whether or not Hisense can fix these errors 😬
I'm going for a 55 inch hisense so hope everything ironed out for the 2023 range
hi Andrew , thanks for your great Review , most of the reviews only say the specifications and numbers ! but you really review the TV , function , image quality and issues and saved me buying an expensive TV.
Glad it was helpful!
I am just learning about the HDMI issues. I have an 85U7H which has a great picture for the money. That said, I went to upgrade my 11 year old, 30' HDMI cable to fiber optic and had the very same experience. Complete power down or factory reset to get it to function. I ended up going back to my old cable to get it to work. Kinda sucks because I really love the TV and the picture is awesome with the fiber optic HDMI.
Very solid review, I'll be curious to see if Hisense does better this year.
Hey guys. Just wanted to mention that the subtitles blooming is not really an issue ,( on any tv ),if you know what u r doing. 99% of streaming services allows u to modify brightness on subtitles, window or background, and size ofcourse. Usually 0,25,50,75 or 100%. 50/50% is often pretty good mix . Yellow text and black window is really good. Maybe u can mention this on one of your videos. Owning samsung qn900b 65" and really happy with those settings. Peace and love from FINLAND. Roll tide ❤
This particular model is out of my price range but if the tech eventually trickles down and they work the bugs out, I’d definitely consider it. Whilst I do want the best picture quality I want it for all resolutions as most things I watch aren’t 4K (lots of dvds and lowest tier subscriptions). I also game a lot so motion matters. Hopefully this forces the competition to up their game picture wise across the board. HDMI handshake issues are annoying enough when they happen occasionally between my tv and my ps5, I wouldn’t want to deal with it regularly especially as all you can do is keep turning things on/off until it works correctly.
Love the video, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews you’re welcome. I also like the quality of the production. It’s very informative. I currently have a Sony X 95J. What would you recommend for me? In terms of an upgrade? I’m looking for a 77 inch screen.
Thanks for your honesty . Perhaps a defective tv they couldn't have sent out a prototype packaged as a finished product . Or would an update cure the ills ? Having said that , I'm loving my U8K 65" .
I owned the UX for about 30 days till it burned out. Yes I had a bad unit! Quality control was a problem, and I chose not to replace it. Hisense was very caring to return the TV to them. I currently bought the Samsung Costco 8K Samsung 850C model with all 4 HDMI ports with 2.1. I know 8k has not even surfaced but the TVs upscaling is just great and out of the box the Samsung had a better picture than the UX. For an 85-inch 8K TV with a 5-year warranty for $4,000 is a no brainer for some future proof value with a $2,000 Black Friday savings.
I bought a hisense tv last year after the great reviews i found on that tv. But i returned it next day to switch it for a sony tv. The hdmi port only had a single direction arc port. Meaning that turning the tv off didn’t turn off my apple tv.
Another great video, thank you. I wonder if the motion and upscaling issues would be resolved by using a streamer such as the Nvidia Shield (which I use in my setup)? I also believe that for the price the consumer shouldn't be expected to implement this as a fix. Hope Hisense reaches back and an update fixes the issues. Thanks again you two!
Our AppleTV did not fix any and all motion issues so it's something to do with the TV's processor.
Hi Andrew and Kristi just wanted to pick your brains about the b&w asw608 do you guys think that two of them would be ample enough for a small room for home theatre use my room is real small 11.5 feet by 13.5 feet with 8 feet ceiling also I never listen at loud volume levels and I hate boom box bass prefer fast layered bass with good weight extension
Thanks for listening
Absolutely love the channel looking forward to the next upload
Great review Andrew. I have always looked at Hisense as a bargin basement brand. I aint saying any of their tv's arent good because some are but they just aint for me.
Hisense has always sucked at low bit processing and sports motion! I'll pass on this TV and get the X95L because all I watch is regular TV and sports. Great review.
If it's truly a processor issue unfortunately no firmware update can fix these issues. Hope this is not the case as my experience with hisense is they do a very good job with putting out good updates that address issues unlike large companies like Samsung.
I don't have that particular model, but the one I have is pretty decent. I got a 75-in screen and the only issue I have is some minor burn in because of pause. There should be a built-in screensaver in all the apps but there's not. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I'm waiting for 100-in TVs to fall to the price of what the 85 inches used to be. My next TV will be 100 in unless this one breaks before they fall in price.
This is why reviews like Andrew's are so important. I'm sure that when rtings releases their results for the UX shortly, on paper it will appear incredible. This will be based on nit numbers, and other data driven stats. But rtings reviews take very little from a user experience perspective, like load times.
The mount of things you two move around your living room each week for a video is impressive.
Thank you...and you have no idea 😂
The old alfa's were gorgeous, but also the reason why I have a MKIV Supra for 20 years.
Hisense is on the verge but some of their processing still needs work. I just returned a U7K. I loved most things about it but the dark color response time in games was especially bad and the resulting black smear was just too much to look past considering it was being used primarily as a gaming display, and there was also too much flicker of certain objects while in motion. Black smear is something VA panels can inherently struggle with, but Samsung and TCL's VA panels still have much better control in this area, to where the blur is barely noticeable and the image in games is more stable and consistent.
I feel like a firmware update could fix the HDMI compatibility issues, but the poor scaling-yikes. 1080p is still a good, common, relevant format. These signals really need to be processed well on any 4K or above TV released today. Great review.
FIrmware likely could address/fix HDMI issues and maybe even scaling/motion if the processor is being overworked.
Hoping most these issues could be fixed via firmware, sounds like the panel is amazing just needs some tweaks to the processor
Hi Andrew, big fan of the videos - pls keep them coming! Quick question - what is THE best home theater set up (if money was not an issue). The best TV and surround sound system combo? consider a square room 18ft x 18ft. Sonos with Arc, 2 Era 3 and 2 Gen 3 subs seems to be best..... but surely a B&O package would beat it? I cant find a definitive answer anywhere...
Please help.
Thanks.
J
Wait, did y’all just change the thumbnail on this video? Um because it totally worked 😆😂 was procrastinating watching it yesterday, totally watching it right now 😅
We did and good to know. Thanks for watching!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Didn’t discern the first thumbnail was an Alfa Romeo(?) 🫣 otherwise woulda watched immediately
Back in the day I had a video processors like the Denon 602 or DVDO Edge...is there an external video processor that can save this TV regarding motion and scaling issues? I love the honesty in your reviews!
Adding an outboard processor does not appear to solve all (or any) of this TV's bigger issues.
Gen 2! 5000 Nit! 100”+ Let’s go!
I’ve always wanted a TV manufacture make a screen only set as a cheaper option as I haven’t used internal TV speakers for 20 years or so.
same here....
Great review (just saved me from buying one) please review the 100" Hisense U8K
I hope that Hisense comes back to with an answer or at least firmware updates.
I would like to see a reconciliation for this product and not be left with the old saw about "they don't make enough to make them right", which has been the case too often in the past. Thank you for a responsible and excellent review.
Thanks for watching.
I would have to guess its a hisense thing, I've had 2 hisense tvs mid a high level, and they've both had the same issues you mentioned with things not working for a week and having to reset or unplug the tv to make it work again 😊
As I understand the 85UX was a very limited run, sort of like a test run for Hisense. Because of this I am not surprised to hear about the issues, but I am guessing that next years U8L could be similar to this model with the improved reliability, or they may go for a full on UX mk2 release!
Guess we'll have to wait and see. Doesn't change the fact that people are still going to buy this model, limited or not, and have the potential to be disappointed. Appreciate you watching and thank you for your comment!
Do you know what 5000 zones does to a picture? In very contrast heavy scenes, it will look better than oled. Even plasma does better than oled in this regard because of the abl. This tv has the least aggressive abl so all hdr scenes can look as close to reference luminance as possible. This is something many reviews will fail to mention.
The reason you had your issues with the UX is because they used OLD PARTS in the US version. It is using the mediatek MT5895 SOC, same one used in Sony's budget TVs, and only has 2 GB of RAM and 6GB on storage. That leaves 464MB of available RAM for GoogleTV OS, which is NOT ENOUGH. They used parts from the U8H (not K) to make the US version. I canceled my order immediately.
I’ve been reading a lot lately about how LED tv’s generate a lot more blue light than OLED tv’s and how that could be harmful to your eyes. I’d like your take on this since you have reviewed a lot of both. Thanks.
This is similar to Hisense 75U9DG. Great TV, but motion handling was atrocious, so they pulled it back. Although, it had different technology, so called dual-layer LCD panel, which turned out to be really slow. But it was announced as Hisense's flagship.
Good news, we now know that a high zone count mini led is arguably peak PQ, obviously the motion must be fixed.
Wow you had me at Alfa Romeo. Interest piqued.
Keep watching! (also, thank you for watching)
Tell me the operating system VIDAA?
Great review, as always! Andrew, I currently have a LG - 86" Class NanoCell 90 Series LED 4K UHD in my dedicated home theater, I really like it. I want to go bigger (no projector, thanks, I can't take the noise inside the room) and I was thinking about the Hisense 100" U8K. What do you think? Would it be a big jump in picture quality? Thanks in advance!
I wish I could advise you on the 100" but we have not tested it. Another viewer commented somewhere below about the 100" model and the issues he/she was having.
We have the new TCL 98" in for review - if you have time, you might want to hold off until then.
My U8K 55 inch is OK... It's extremely bright and very tuneable. Amazing colors and deep blacks. It really suffers from DSE and motion issues. It also cannot replicate the amount of detail present in Sony OLEDs. That being said I lean toward the U8K over Sony OLEDs just based on price and decreasing returns, even though the Sony will outperform it in most (but definately not all) aspects. Not sure if OLEDs can get as big as you want but like Andrew, it's a hesitant recommendation. You will see its flaws and its beauty, lol.
Praying that the 98UX doesn’t have the issues this model has (really want the 110UX but will probably be out of my budget). Hoping Hisense listened to all the reviewers who experienced the issues with motion, upscaling, HDMI, etc. and addressed them for the 98UX
Nice Video. Could you include a specific section about upscaling maybee ? because a nintendo switch (which is 720p) i have heard that the lg g3 makes the switch look as good as no other Tv
05:32 MOTION: NON-4K SIGNALS, SPORTS & GAMING
What do you think Andrew? My situation is as follows I’m currently using the 77” LG G2 in my H/T room and a 65” Samsung QN90B in my upstairs living room so I’m familiar with both OLED & QLED. Both TVs are great and I enjoy them but I’m now looking at an 85” tv for the H/T room, on my short list is the Samsung QN900C & Sony X95L. I’m a casual to medium gamer and I use everything running through my Denon X4800H and I also use a separate streaming device so ARC/eARC is of no use to me. I watch about 75% physical media(4K & 1080P Blu-Ray) and 15% streaming with the rest being DirecTV. Should I add this Hisense to my consideration list? Holiday season deals are coming up very soon. Thanks
I like Samsung frame tvs , I know they get flack but I like the look
Good morning!!!!
Morning Leezah!
Morning!!
Sounds like Hisense needs to get their software engineers to work and get an update out before black Friday.
That would be a good start!
Using a HTPC outputting to UX using mpc-hc and mpv, I have zero issues with motion. It can play 23.976/24p/30i/59.94/60p/119p/120p perfectly. It's probably a google issue which will probably be handled soon. tldr, get the Sony if you watch poor sources. Get the UX if you plan to calibrate and use quality or native sources.
Irony of this video to me is I watched it on a Hisense 55u6e which at the time was put out as top picture quality and they never could deliver a audio firmware update to fix their sound problems. (Only sound bar that could ever keep sound and picture in sync is a older Yamaha) I kept the tv waiting for their firmware fix, and really wish I had returned instead.
Im 90 procent convinced to buy 2022 hisense mini led tv but i'm not convinced by the black should be much controlled?!, but HDR content is good for budget mini led tv and it has built in sound bar, atmos speakers and subwoofer, of course i'm gonna use my amp and speakers 99 procent.
The question to ask Hisense is are they aware of the overall negative perception their TVs have. In every home theater or 4K social media group I'm in the comments are overwhelming negative. Your experiences sound similar to what I read on Facebook, or reddit. Honestly your review is not surprising.
Is there a review of the Focal Aria 906 coming?
My TCL has had this kind of trouble “reboots required to restore function, speed, operation”… not when new, but more and more as firmware gets refreshed over the 3 years I’ve had it
I have a tcl sound bar , does the same thing. You even have to unplug it to reboot it sometimes. It works most of the time but yeah man WTH.
Always here on time to support..
And we appreciate it!
I have a TCL google TV. I have many of the issues that you describe. No, not as often, but still I wonder how much of this is the google system.
Its wild that a Hisense is now in Sony x95L territory, they need to do a really good job w/ processing if they want to price here.... The price needs to come down to like 1/2 imo....
I wonder if the issues has been fixed, if so how?
Are you guys planning to test the new B&O speakers?
We want to but they're not on the schedule yet.
I agree my same exact experience with my 100 inch U8k sports are unwatchable and alot of qc issues as well. Really disappointed as I really wanted to love this tv. Returning tomorrow 😢 My screen goes into a stage of just colors, upscaling is so pixelated as well. Definitely a processor issue for most of it besides my screen doing random colors!! I would not consider a Hisense in the future this is the first tv I bought with so many issues. I understand things happen but qc is not something I want to worry about especially spending 5k on a tv. Back to the drawing board!!
Hoping you got a dud, my 100in is coming in a few weeks hopefully not bad (snagged for 3500)
@@Veryveryverysmart Good luck I will never buy hisense again. Returned it already!!
Wow!!
will there be review of u8k or u7k models?
Nothing is on our schedule. This is the first Hisense tv we've been sent in a couple of years.
Absolutely cracking up over the Alfa comparison. Sounds like they should team up with nvidia for upscaling / image processing. Actually if you have a shield that does amazing upscale.. maybe will solve the issues?
Do it Do it!!
Does sound like software issues, which seams to be the norm for Hisense. Also, their memory management is not good. I am not a proponent for using the powerful internal sound system speakers, due to the long term effects of the vibrations ringing throughout the chassis and panel.
Hey there! Done cleanin my gutters and ready for a review
Woo hoo!
Buckle up.
I think like with the Eversolo, the Kinki Studio and Huawei MATE 60 Pro, Chinese once again are on the money. Maybe its more a question of waiting for the update?
Forget the Huawei Mate 60 Pro though... Honor is where it is at. Better processor and you get all the Google stuff which, really, you'll want if you're not living in China.
What about if you do the upscaling in the home theatre receiver and feed the signal already upscaled to 4K?
Doesn't solve the problem(s).
Hope the bump on your left wrist heals quickly. Thanks for the honest video.
It's leftover from an injury, it is what it is. Thanks for watching.
Andrew thanks for testing the TV with real world material. In the real world people have to deal with marginal OTA, crappy cable and variable streaming services. Some TV reviews (not this site) lose track of that. If you want to watch things less than optimal signals are not going away, your TV will have to deal with them.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch and notice that we do our best to throughly test all products in the real world. To the best of my knowledge there have been no "real" reviews of this TV, just in-store demos or spec-sheet shoutouts. If you only watch test patters and/or test discs I think you'll have a hard time finding a bad TV by any manufacturer in 2023, but start watching content people consume en masse and it's a whole different story.
I think this might be same panel TLC is doing now with new smaller mini LEDs. TCL is supposed to release x955 with 5k dimming zones and 5k peak brightness, so even higher than Hisense. If they get processing decent enough it could be one that will take market by storm especially that it will be in two sizes 85” and 98”. I think Kristy would love to go back to that size.
We have a new TCL review in the works, so we'll see...
@@andrewrobinsonreviews no wayyy, it supposed to be out but TCL is silent but I do want to see how it performs before I pull trigger on 77G3. Fingers crossed this comes out before Black Friday 🤞🏻
@@andrewrobinsonreviewsWill you have it side to side? I have learned from a Chinese reviewer that x955 5000nit only last less than 15second when turning on. Would you include that test in your upcoming review?
The tv sounds a bit sketch. Maybe a software update like you said would make it work. But for a couple hundred more, you get a 83” LG G3!
Hello from Hong Kong~~~
Morning!
Its a lot to pay for a unit w so many issues. For me, the issues might not be so prevalent as i only watch bluray/4k discs. Still a lot of dough. I will stick with my top of the middle of the line sony from a couple years back. After my projector went bye bye, i was blown away with even the middle of the line.
Brutally honest, but that's what we need to hear. No ear candy!
We always keep it real with our viewers.
What tv would you recommend for a 65 inch. Out of box performance and not calibrated. I have no intention of calibrating so looking to the best tv out of the box in the 65”
Sony.
TCL 6 series
The stuttering could be a result of a weak processing unit and / or poor app coding. Live content is always difficult because the data caching design even for regular streaming content can be problematic depending on disk and RAM bandwidth and speed. It will be interesting if HISENSE is able to address most of these with a firmware update.
Isn't the pentatonic chip coming out next yr supposed to be a powerhouse to solve many tv problems.
Definitely love the way you deliver real, factual information in a diplomatic way so that the consumer is informed. I'm a lover of the X95L but I hope Kristi is right and once they iron out the kinks, Hisense might be a real player/slayer against the other top brands. Thanks so much for being so personable and informative and yes, I second the idea of a short "bloopers" moment at the very end of your segments. 😄😄😄
Uh oh! I saw a Kaleidescape mention! THAT is a debate I want to have. As to the TV, I did read the title quickly on my phone and thought is said “Watch BEFOR Buying the HISENSE 85 SUX! It definitely does not appear to suck but unfortunately too many “issues”.
What is the "debate" surrounding K-Scape?
@@andrewrobinsonreviews GREAT product. I have SERIOUS issues with the business model that begins with pricing and viability should a company like Apple decide to offer similar quality. With Best Buy leaving the physical media space K-Scape needs to position itself towards wider acceptance than just catering to a small niche market.
Turn all your hdmi settings to medium instead of high.. took care of my earch issues not working..
If you're a gamer, it's all about delay. When you push the button, how long until Mario jumps. Some tvs have a noticeable delay.
First things first... which Alfa did you have?
Could it be that the 5k dimming zones are the reason for the stuttering issues? The processing must be intense... there's a reason why all the other manufacturers max out at much lower levels, despite also having many more LEDs. Maybe the processor is just so overworked with the calculations necessary for good local dimming at that level, that it can't keep up?
We had the Stelvio. And yes, I think the processor is being overworked.
Is there an echo in here? LOL @@andrewrobinsonreviews
I have an extra Lumagen here, what if I used that to scale everything up to 4K? My only source is an AppleTV 4K.
You could try it, but I don't think that would solve the motion issues, and that's assuming it doesn't have a handshake issue with your Lumagen.
Have you guys tried the U8k? I would like to know if that has the same issues you see here. I am really tempted to get the 100 inch.
This is the first Hisense TV we've been sent in years. I really hope it's not the last. (no)
I would welcome the opportunity to test it, but nothing is on the schedule as of right now.
Does the manufacturer(s) see the reviews they send tv’s out for???
Never. We did, however, reach out to Hisense about the issues we were experiencing. So far the only response has been via their marketing rep was they were "unable to replicate" our findings.
How did it perform with the yamaha r-n1000a? And is the yamaha r-n1000a a good choice for movies as well as music?
It worked 95% of the time. The 1000A is a great option for 2.1-channel music/movie enjoyment with HDMI convenience.
