    It looks like the gauge wires used on the fuel pump are a smaller gauge than they should be, and when you opened up that ground wire the coppers looked a bit heat-oxidized. It just adds more resistance to the circuit. I had some steel-stiff wires going into a relay on an old 97 Ford Probe GT, the relay went out because of heat from the wires melting the plastic over time (under hood temps, being in Florida for 20+ years). I have a 2000 4Runner and noticed the connector looked tan/brownish on the white connector around the wires, and there was a lot of old di-electric grease in there. I cleaned it out with some electric cleaner, my pump works but the way it reads every time I fill it is different. One tank I have 7.8 gallons at half empty, another time it's 13.5, etc. It's a moving target. I'm going to try the ground out and see if that solves it since I am constantly in different temperatures every time I refill it, I think that's a factor. I've already replaced the gas cap and was certain that was a factor after several times not fully seating it it read consistently off the same way when I was in one spot with the same temps consistently.

    • @KLIMPORTS
      @KLIMPORTS  9 месяцев назад

      If you try it and it’s still reading the same then for sure you know it’s your fuel pump sending unit is not working right.

    I tried this and unfortunately it did not fix my gauge on my 1999 Rav4. So, I found a 1996 RAV4 in the junkyard and I started to remove the fuel pump located under back seat (driver's side). Little did I know -the Rav 4 has 2 sending units- the other one sits under back seat (passenger side). This is the one I removed and luckily this was the one at fault. My fuel sending unit was so rusty and it's sensors were totally corroded away on top of unit. The 1996 Rav's fuel sender was in much better condition and sensors were not corroded . The only pain was removing my 8 badly rusted screws and getting the fuel hose back on -in a small space since fuel line travels under metal body and unless you drop the tank-you can't see where it connects into other pump or gas tank . Needle works perfect now.

      Sorry I couldn’t help you but at least you got your problem fixed now. You Never going have to worry about playing the guessing game with your gas needle 👍 . I hate dropping the tank period.

    That's a great solution! This just happened on my 2004 Tacoma (same engine) after replacing my fuel injectors. Any idea where the ground is located on that one? If I've read correctly, the electrical connection for the fuel pump on 1st Gen Tacomas is underneath the vehicle. I haven't checked yet, but just curious if the ground would be the same once I find the connection. Thanks!

    • @KLIMPORTS
      @KLIMPORTS  2 года назад

      There’s is lots of main ground on a vehicle. I just took the easy way out to ground it faster to get the job done. Yes for the fuel pump you have to drop the tank to get to it. But the wires is there if you notice I took the black cover off to see the fuel pump!

    • @eljefeslash
      @eljefeslash 2 года назад +1

      @@KLIMPORTS so on the Tacoma, there is no black cover over those wires; rather, the wires are above the gas tank (in between the top of the gas tank and the bed of the truck - tight space), so there is no easy way to get to it. What I might do is just feel around and unplug it, then bring the wires down where I can see them, then splice into that brown wire (assuming it's the same ground wire on a Tacoma), and find some metal above the tank somewhere for a new ground. Is there any specific type of wire to use as the new spliced ground wire? Thanks

    • @KLIMPORTS
      @KLIMPORTS  2 года назад +1

      @@eljefeslash yes I was going to tell you follow the wire from where the plug is and tap it in from there. Just use the same gauge wire as the one you splicing into.
