- In today’s video, we discuss the pro’s and con’s to everyone’s favorite truck plow the V plow! It’s been around since 1775 before the birth of America and around then it was the bee’s knees but today in 2023 is it still? The short answer is no the long answer is in the video…
This newer generation cracks me up.. been plowing commercial accounts for years with a v-plow and never had a problem. Not to mention all the people I know that runs a v plow and never had a problem.
This isn’t your diary.
That is why you have a pull plow. Perfect
The artic razer back will be a game changer. It just might be the perfect fits all plow. Still able to windrow effectively but also carry massive amounts of snow and not be rough on the truck when hitting things under the snow.
I dont know that there will ever be a one plow fits all. 🤔 love your pull plows paired with the v. That looks so slick!
Maybe eventually! But would be a lot of moving parts! But very true! Each plow shines more and less in different applications
That’s was very thorough and well put together. I agree V plows have their fit in the snow game. I personally love the wideout and have both the wideout and a v plow. The wideout is so much more efficient. Just like you said the v plow is good for that first initial pass on the big storms. Either way they both push snow and get the job done. The wider the plow the better
Would love to try the Sno Power front plow! I’m mostly residential right now though, would keep the V plows for the country driveways
I totally agree with you on this. We just purchased our first boss EXT. That thing carries way more more then the ole v-plow. Next will be the f-14 or a 16’ back blade for next year. Great video!!
That’s awesome! Keep it up!
Great video !! Very very informational !!! 👍👍👍
Everything you have said is why many places in Canada have gone to high volume, high hp (200-300hp), massive snowblowers that have rotary drums and can cast snow well over 100 ft. The largest 102" - 108" blowers by Pronovost, Zaugg, Schmidt, etc can move 2,500 tons per hour, that is an amount a pickup truck guy could never even dream of. The great thing about a large blower in commercial accounts like you demonstrated your blower touches the snow once and its out of your way, with a plow you have to plow the same snow multiple times as it collapses back on your track, it sucks to push, once there is a banking you cannot get the snow up and over.
We run 12-18 snow wing blades on wheel loaders, for commercial applications, but we have used them on our own personal residential lanes for fun in our off time. Basically a big wideout blade. V plows and straight blades are a waste of time if you have designated snow deposits
Nice! Couldn’t agree more!
Having both the V and wideouts in your fleet are very important . Get yourself an updated MVP3 😅.
Our Vs don’t have the gap that yours does either .
Nice work. Enjoy the MORE SNOW COMING BUD!! I do love my OLD boss RT1 VPLOW !!IT looks like it dead but still gets it done !!
On a V plow on a 250 or a 350 The 9‘6“ V is by far superior and get it with the high wings adds more weight for back dragging and if you’re scared of the corners of the plow touching the blacktop when they’re wing back just open up the V a little with the controller and you’re good to go if you get a blizzard that’s wet and heavy and you sleep late that V plow will put you back on the map ! the rest of the guys are going to slide off the road sideways and spent three hours digging out their truck lol I’ll drive by I also run a western white out on a different F350 great for swiping parking lots when it’s cold and fluffy get both
Skippy will figure out The BOSS is the Cadillac of Blades
Have a boss dtx 9.6 with the added wings and its amazing the downforce is better than all others imo. Have had westerns wide outs and even fishers v blade the only down side is if you don't have a spare hose you better keep a ratchet strap with you
Love my short iron back blade although its only a 14’ with a fisher xv2 plow. Works great for my 25 residential accounts in Massachusetts but this will be my last winter plowing will use for a the few customers i will keep next year but love my set up
Right on
Great video!
Right on! All great info! We can't get 9'2 or 9'6 btn cars in our lots or single drives between city houses with garage in backyard. Can't use 8' front straight blade either because it will push the truck into the house and the pile gets too big. If you try and back blade with a front blade it takes forever.
Shorter the truck the better for our tight spots.
I disagree with everyone ha ha ha good video like you said each plow has its place I still want my back blade 👍👍👍👍
I want to be a snow plow man. This looks fun lol
😆 them plows are 😎 if you get paid by the hour
The v’s are ya! If you get paid monthly or per time they are 💩
@@GarrettWilliams2017 right lol
@@GarrettWilliams2017 we use to do a bass pro years ago huge lot just with str8 blade Myers n westerns back n day remember being on 1 lot for 34 hours lol
@@blacksmokematters4521 lol wow!
@@GarrettWilliams2017 that's really all we had back in the day lol skidsters was just coming around then the v blade thing came out lol
great video. V blades are good on V mode. 90% Fisher xls all day
Dude. The scoop function is just as important as the V function. You should have bought a BOSS 😂 the mold board angle is adjustable bro.
My mvp3 9 foot 6 carries plenty of snow. Only way to go. If you do rurual areas . 102 inch wide leagal width in most states
Snow Ex V Plow 8'6" with wings...perfect plow if there is such a thing. Comes out to about 10'. We salt in Indiana so only a plow in front and salter in the bed.
How do u know where the road is? At the beginning the road curves. I live in the Arizona desert. Don't laugh to hard. Great video 👍 👍
There was some metal stakes that were mostly buried. I also know where it is just from Plowing it a bunch of times.
Everybody takes for granted the technology now with plows like the Snopower or the new Arctic truck plow. And most people now think V-plows are garbage. But let’s look back to when a V-plow wasn’t even a thing and even was plowing snow commercially with a 7’6” or 8’ straight blade.
i agree with i do small comercial and just got a kage for a skid loader it is game changer
You gotta say It though you can’t beat a western plow in general. 😂
Love our western plows! Best mounting system out there imo
We run boss v blades and 16ft boss drag pros and 16ft eblings. On all of our trucks. I prefer the eblings over boss. Scrapes much better.
Man y’all need some Fishers out there!! Fisher V plow is the real deal 🔥
Hey Garrett Williams a nother awesome videos on your channel u definitely my favorite RUclipsr i thinking about getting a boss v plow for next season
To your point about big storms and being able to cut in the V plow...it's also critical if you have residential accounts with uphill driveways. A heavy wet snow with a crust of freezing rain on top is a nightmare for straight blades. You've got to sawtooth your way up the driveway and that can get sketchy if you get sideways on a steep driveway. It's great for breaking through drifts from smaller storms. It's also better to have the MVP tapered blades. You can toss that snow far on long runs in parking lots.
I've been searching for the perfect plow for 30 years and don't believe that there is one. You make concessions that favor your own accounts.
That being said. Someone else pointed out the new Arctic plow that fits into the Fisher/Western mounts and uses the same controller.
Yeah 20 years ago we would have 5 or 6 pickup plows and one 14ft box on a backhoe. Now you might have 2 trucks and one skidsteer or backhoe or loader way more efficiently done today.
Lets see you dont go in full scoop in open area. Back it up which it gets wider. Also go with the 9 6 mvp3 . Taller plow. Also in scoop the plow will roll the snow in front of it. The f14 is nice but is not tall enough. Is ok for parking lots an only 2 to 6inches of snow on them. No drifts. You can change the pitch on the cutting edge . On the back of the a frame. My mvp3 will back drag with the best of them. For scrapeing a payloader or skidder is best. You dont tear the trannys an trucks up as bad that way.
Thank you
So if your running a 8’6 Western MVP3 with wings what’s your go to rear blade to pair with it. This is to do residential and commercial. Thanks
I agree mostly, I do small commercial in the Southside of the twin cities and I have the same plow but with the added wings which makes it more viable. It gets you out farther by buildings and corners and can scoop more like a wideout . It's multi tasking like you said but not ideal for all. The new F12/14 is really where it's at right now.
Western Prodigy, most underrated plow on the market for the money..
i run an 8.2 DXT mainly, 8.2 V-XT as a back up and a 7.6 superduty that only gets used when its time to do residentials. V blades have their place but i constantly bitch when i have to back drag with the V. id love a back blade but we salt here
Personal I plow faster with my v plow western 8’6”. I love it.
you guys gonna get an Arctic front plow on a pick up? id love to see some actual content with one
Yes we are! Not sure if it will be in time to plow Witt this year but for sure next winter
Short iron .mvp3 f350 or f450 1300LBs in box mine is f350 7.3 2002.
Does the guy in the red truck still plow with you? Also do you still have the 04 with the v?
He started his own company! Sold the 04 but still have the 05
Good for him he seemed like a good guy! Thanks for the videos
I live in Buffalo and have had to bust 5ft events twice this year
question _ I have same truck with snoway 29 hd straight blade and snoway spreader. I had the airdam off and had to replace drivers and passenger exhaust heat shields as they rusted off.40 k miles?? Have you had any problems with this? i did cut out and replaced air dam as i thought it may help but we have had no winter so cant tell if it will help. appreciate your comments on the plows.
Why was your dash blinking?
I agree on the V plows. I have two trucks right now both with V’s. One with a 16’ short iron also. Looking to upgrade front plows next year. How do you like the snow powers for uneven lots if you even have any?
What if you run a Boss V DXT that has DForce (500lbs) of down pressure? Mine back drags awesome!
Use any plow you want still need snow to pay for it all .trucks and plows are not cheap need alot of snow .
I have plowed commercially for years and still windrow the parking lots. When the bank gets too big you bulk it off then go back to windowing. In my opinion all sno powers are good for is overworking the truck and making bigger messes than the blades are worth. I have watched numerous videos of guys using sno power front blades to clear parking lots and they spend just as much if not more time chasing the trails that come off the blade than actually making progress on the lots
Just carrying snow across the parking you are not using the plow efficiently.
Yes a back blade is going to plow a more efficient plowing horse shoes.
The defiance back blade is priced at 17,000. The cost to effectiveness is not there.
After plowing with both a F14 and v-plow I would agree with this video. It was horrible, slow and mind numbing to go back to the v-plow
@@danielvandock6562 yeppers! Makes ya feel like you are accomplishing next to nothing once you’ve seen the alternative in real life. everyone like mr mike here who’s never actually used one doesn’t know what they are missing…
What tires do you guys run on 3/4 ton plow trucks? I really like BFG KO2 for plowing but I burn them up pulling a trailer in the summer. Thanks.
We like the ridge grapplers for year around use
It's not the plow It's THE DRIVER 8:42
We use boss v plows only. Straight plows can't handle our snowfalls.
dont care what you say skid loader pusher is more worth the value than a truck plow and more cost effective
Well you have to own a truck and trailer to move that from customer to customer. So your comparing the cost of a skid loader to the plow alone. Hardly cost effective.
@@evana1900 your full of crap I drive mine fromplace to place
@@gamerfarms9362 in your situation that works. But what about about clients that live ten miles out of town? I’m guessing you leave those for people with a truck to drive out there.
@@evana1900 simply have a tight route
If you get to a residential driveway and the highway department has plowed in the entrance and then it froze then you showed up this happened in 1996 storm U joints and axles were on national back order because everyone broke their drive train trying to break through the ice guys with the v plows drove straight through it zero impact to the truck
Interesting! That was 27 years ago and if it hasn’t happened since I wouldn’t bank on it happening on a regular basis. In that case we would trailer around a skid or two and get them done that way..
That’s why I have the wide out and the V , history will always repeat itself , thanks for your videos good times
But if you’re only putting one plow on ya v plow and what are you talking about we got plenty last year up north and you’re not opening cabin roads without the v
So your comparing apples to oranges and wondering why they taste different.
Around here there is no advantge to having a back plow, the v-plow works because it does what it was developed to do.
There is no do all plow, each has it's use.
Your point at 9 minutes is for all plows…
True. The truck turns the same no matter which plow you have. But with a wider plow, you are able to stick to the radius without having to drive over it.
I swing the wing to the direction you are turning out to straight and keep the outer wing full angled helps some when plowing around a curve instead of keeping both wings full angle. But yes I get what he means about plowing around a turn and the trucks wheels are in the snow.
Learn to plow before you downgrage a plow.
?
western plows are the absolute best
