Hey carson, i dont recall if u stated this or not already, but jw, how many gallons is that fish tank? And to the questions above i think he said he got that egg crate @ Lowe's
Great job! I appreciate the ideas. I got a 10 year old turtle a few months ago. To the best of my knowledge all he has known is a 10 gallon. I’m getting a much larger tank set up for him. I have found the basking area shopping to be sparse so I’m very excited about these DIY’s. Thank you for sharing!
great video! I created the same one for my red eared slider. Quick thing I want to mention as I recently experienced this and want to warn others: if your turtle has long nails, BEWARE!! my turtle tried jumping off his area into the water and his nail got stuck on one of the little squares. I found him hanging upside down with his neck all disoriented. thankfully he’s okay but I just want to warn others!
I made this for my 75 gallon and I put reptile bedding liner on it, my turtle loves it so much!! Thank you this was a life saver so much cheaper than what I would’ve paid
Thank you so much for this video! The material is perfect and it was a fun project to create. Basking cages are so expensive and there’s not many options. My yellow belly sliders are on the bigger side and you gave me the opportunity to custom make one to their size. I watched all your videos for this project and the green terrain was genius!
Thank you for making this video! It's easy to understand and follow along! 😸 I finally finished my basking area, and it is very satisfying to see it and see how much my turtles love it. Wish i could show you. 😌😌
I love DIY projects also, this is such an awesome idea I am going to build mine ASAP for sure. Could you suggest something to put on the floor of the loft and the ramp so her feet don't go though the holes in the egg crate and I would really like how it would look I just don't know what would be safe to use. Thank you so much for this video.
Thankful to find this, have a huge turtle and have bought many different basking setups none of which seem to hold up because of hwr size, hopeing this fixes the issue, thanks for sharing
How did it work? I have a huge yellow bellied slider and he won't bask anymore I think he's too big for his current platform, so I want to make one like this
thank you so much for this, I am about to make one for my turtle, I have had him for about a year and he has had a 10 gallon, the other day I upgraded him to a 60 gallon and I need to get him a new dock and I couldn't find and cheap and good one but this is perfect !
So for the lamps are you just having them lay directly ontop of the egg crate? And do you recommend putting something on the ramp to make it easier to climb up ? Like felt or something?
Omg 😱 soo I have been stressing trying to figure out how to build my 🐢 turtle Ben basking area. Thank u soo much for the 💡 ideas it’s exactly what I was planning on doing. U just gave me a cheaper idea. I was gong to do it with wire but I like ur idea better. Ur awesome 👏🏼
It looks like the inside of the top of the tank has a little ledge on which the floor sits. Is that correct? My tank doesn’t have a ledge, so I’m wondering if the turtle topper could just sit on the top, where even the slightest numb would move it off center. I’m trying to think about how I’d secure the basking area. Great idea and great video! Thanks!!
Not sure if you found a solution by now but here a couple of suggestions...use suction cups with hooks on the glass for the bottom on the crate to rest on or if you can think of a more clever way to make your own "ledge". Two way magnets, glue to the sides of the crate. Depending on how large your turtle is it may work. I hope I was able to help you, even if my suggestions helped get you thinking
How many gallons are in that tank beacuse I think I have the same tank and I am going to try this and I want to know if i can just buy the same amount as u
This is late but just 7 pellets each feeding would be good enough but give them different variety of good such as shrimp, My turtle loves that but only feed them it once every while but it helps them grow
Quick question for anyone who may have an answer... I own a 6 year old female red eared slider. She's in a 55 gallon tank. And I'm pretty sure it's the same exact tank in this video. Looks exactly like it. I want to make a basking area for her just like this but, the heat lamp.. wouldn't that melt the plastic?
Carson’s Aquatics thanks i might be getting a turtle after covid 19 calms down (if it does) and I can’t find any above top basking areas any where so I decided I’d make my own out now it’s probs gonna be rather acrylic for sides and then a egg crate bottom and top or all egg crate
Hey Carson! Thanks for sharing! I used two ladders side by side to get my turtle into a basking area but they stopped selling them and its been hard so i can’t wait to try this. I was also wondering if you can give tips on the filter to keep the tank clean and how to set it up. Idk what I’m doing wrong? 😞😢

@carsonaquatics where did you purchase the egg crate??? I've like to make a basking unit for my 55 gallon tank.
Hey carson, i dont recall if u stated this or not already, but jw, how many gallons is that fish tank?
And to the questions above i think he said he got that egg crate @ Lowe's
Little tip for sharp edges from cut zip ties or egg crate, use a lighter (cautiously) for a couple seconds and it’ll dull out the sharp edges.
Thanks

That really was strangely satisfying that it fit.

how did you solve this? My turtle has pretty long nails and loves to dive off the dock he has now.
Good to know, thanks
@@zyairhendrixx you can trim their nails. It's seen as normal to trim pet turtle nails. Males have longer front nails.
Just cover the bottom and ramp with turf

Did you make it yet? cause I got a 55 gallon hdx bin I want to make one for
This channel will be the best fishing channel!
i hope so too dawg
How would the plastic handle the proper heat you need for a basking area?
If it’s far enough the proper heat isn’t that high
Wow creativity at it's finest!

such an underrated channel. i have turtles too, setting up the 40 gal. tomorrow

Thank you for the easy to follow tutorial, Godbless
Broo what plastic are you using and where did you get it
Brilliant that mate. Seen people use all different stuff. Hope i get this egg crate in the UK. If not its on ebay an amazon. Thanks bro. Great vid👍👍👍👍
how does it hold up with the heat bulb??
Where did you get the egg crate from
Amazing! Gonna try this for my 72 gallon
How does this material hold up under a heat lamp?
How big is the egg crate?
Hi Carson, what material is it that you used to build this ramp? The plastic stuff please. Thanks :)
From where did you get the eggcrate! I can’t find it on Amazon. Pls help
I was looking for easy to handle materials and this is Perfect!
What material is this?
Where do you get the plastic square pieces from?
Nice job....We made a dock actually inside the big tank and call it and aqua-cave....it pretty unique
Hmmm I can only imagine but it sounds amazing! I wish you could show some pix. Keep using your brain...not too many people do anymore lol
Amber Rae ....we have several videos of it and others on our channel....
Would u sell that basking srea u made or make one then sell it
A thin piece of wood would keep that ramp up nicely. This whole idea is perfect. Thanks
Will the egg crate top burn or melt?
No, and when you buy a light for the turtle it shouldn’t burn plastic or else it’s a bad light
Thank you so much for sharing, it's very helpful to me!
Lol my cutter things don’t cut that perfect. Makes the plastic stuff fly everywhere and I have to sand it
Guys, stop asking the same question over and over. Look at the comments, he also answered your question in the video... It’s egg crate material.
So for the lamps are you just having them lay directly ontop of the egg crate? And do you recommend putting something on the ramp to make it easier to climb up ? Like felt or something?
What type of pliers are you using?
If you put a heat lamp on the egg crate, will it melt?
nope, been using mine for 3 months & it hasn’t melted one bit, just slightly changes its color to a yellowish tint, which isnt a problem at all
Carson’s Aquatics ok, thanks for answering :)
Is it safe to spray paint it.
I don’t think so
Are you putting heat lamps on top of plastic?? Won't that melt the plastic?
Would black egg crate heat up much more than white egg crate?
probably
Wow this is awesome! And so creative. Thank you so much for sharing now my turtle can have an awesome basking dock!
Can you glue fake grass and moss onto this plastic to avoid their nails getting snagged? Also are those plyers you used to cut it or wire cutters?

NICE BASKING AREA
Awesome.. exactly wat I’m looking for, thx for sharing.
How well does it hold to the heat lamps? Hows the uvb degrade it?
Just made this today. I’m still patiently waiting for her to climb up there. Fingers crossed
That's clean work!
Where can I get the grid?
I’m definitely doing one
Would this be sturdy enough for a 10 inch cooter?
What is the thing called and can I find it online???
Will this plastic melt under the basking lights?
Where can I get the supplies?
Is it just me but I can’t find that egg crate at lowes and when I come across it it’s 100$
hey! where exactly did you get the egg crate? was it just 1 that you grabbed? i’m getting a baby turtle and a 20 gal tank so i wanted to make my own

It’s called egg crate, you can get it at lowes and home depot for around $15 a sheet. He only used one sheet for this project
Wassup Carson had a question how often and how much should I be feeding my turtles . They about the size of an adult palm . I just got them recently

Does that thing float?
It would sink bc of the holes silly. He has his resting on a ledge at the top of the tank,
Is that a 55g??
Yes
