I’m a Red Sox fan and I agree with Michael Kay . I was a bit shocked after the 2013 season when the Red Sox didn’t even tried to offer jacoby a contract is like they didn’t care anymore and with good reasons not only did the Red Sox knew that something was wrong with Ellsbury but they had stars like Mookie Betts Jackie coming up from the minors . Makes sense if you think about it

    • @rla1000
      @rla1000 4 года назад

Maskill Maldonado, Yankee fan and I wonder if the Yankees had their current analytics prowess in 2013, would they have signed Ellsbury? Will always be a question what the Red Sox knew, or was it simply a question of salary avoidance? Sox made one of the greatest moves of all time by not signing him, racking up outfield WAR 7-1/2 x what Ellsbury did, about 60 to 8, at about 42 percent of his salary.
Any guess on where Mookie ends up with JD staying? A couple months ago I was saying the Red Sox could look like the Marlins in a couple years if the right moves aren't made. And, wrong thread, what are Red Sox fans' thoughts, if any, as to what could happen to Cora if he gets caught up in the Astros mess? He had to know and practically said so in London.

Dr Shrimp Puerto Rico I doubt it at this point. His on base productivity was already on decline when he came to New York, his speed is cut down due to numerous injury issues, wrong side of 30, and no power to speak of. What he has left may not be enough for anyone to take a chance on him, maybe he has some miraculous burst of what he was before, but I highly doubt it. Even just before David Wright retired, he had more skills left in him than Ellsbury. So I’m not holding out anything more than a fifth OF spot at best.

I was once diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I could not walk without a crutch. They put me on an 18 month rehab program telling me that this program was 40% successful. If the program did not work after 18 months then they would operate. They did not want to operate right away because the operation was so high risk I could suffer permanent disability. I did not go back to them.
A couple of painful months later I was at Dunkin's across the street from an old girl-friend's house. She came out and asked me why I was on the crutch. When I told her she said she could fix that.
I went with her to her treatment room ( she was an alternate medicine therapist ) and lay on her work bench. She said. "This is really going to hurt you but I don't mind because you really hurt me when you broke my heart." Then she grabbed my foot in a judo hold we called a "monkey bite" when I was a kid and squeezed her thumb up into the bottom of my foot. I screamed. I begged her to stop. She held me down. I cried out and pleaded with her to stop but all she said was "I have almost found it. Ah ! Yes. Yes. There it is." And instantly a ripple of relief spread through my entire body as every muscle in my body went limp.
I stood up and I could walk again. I was completely cured and have never had that problem ever again. I asked her how much I owed her. She said "I should pay you. I have been dreaming of making you scream like that for the past 8 years. Boy do I feel good just hearing you scream."

That's an incredibly unfair assessment of Ellsbury. Players don't make the lineups. To say that Ellsbury didn't care because he didn't play in a WC game....by that same logic, Giancarlo Stanton didn't care during the 2019 ALCS because he was hurt and couldn't play. And of course, we found out later that Stanton was hurt and that he wanted to play, but that the Yankees didn't let him because they thought he might be okay for the World Series roster.

To be fair, he was a "Yankee killer" at the time of signing him. I do not think he was a significant upgrade over who we had in the outfield. He was a slightly better version of Brett Gardner. Him being injury prone was a major red flag and definitely not worth 26 million for a minor upgrade in left field. We needed starting pitching back then and still do now.
And not every former Red Sox player is trash. I mean, thats how we got Babe Ruth. And Johnny Damon contributed in his short stint with the Yankees. Jacoby is still a smaller bust than Carl Pavano.

I hope people see the irony in Yankee's fans complaining that their big free agents not being passionate about playing for the Yankee's. You're the team with the money. You're gonna get the free agents who care about money.

Mark, no offense but YOU also had an injury-riddled career. Marks was not as bad as Jacobys was but remember this
2009-2011 Over 155 games played per year. Beast numbers
    2012 - 123 Games Played
    2013 - 15 Games Played
    2014 - 123 Games Played
    2015 - 111 Games Played
    2016 - 116 Games Played.
NEVER played 124 games or more after 2011 every season.
Be careful Mark when you want to shoot on someone for being injured.
    Look in the mirror man
