That's what I was thinking. These turks are smart, so they'll respond to movement that's "natural/common." If it were me I'd rig the bird with 2 lines-each one tied to opposite sides of a 3" disk that's centered on the shaft near the ground. That way you can turn the bird [decoy], from side/side, or to face the tom's approaching them.
Hey Blake, Have you ever tried “Reaping” or spot and stalking those birds? Sometimes when the birds are stubborn or the tom’s aren’t talking that’s a good strategy. I use a really scruffy jake fan and stalk them up close and sometimes when they see a moving fan like that it really fires them up and you can get them in close. I also find it a bit more entertaining than blind hunting but that’s just me.
@@blockethoutdoors might not want to do that with other hunters around in case someone mistakes you for a turkey and takes a shot, but on large private land it'd probably be fine
hey blake im new to this channel but im probaly gonna start watching you more i love your videos and i would love if you teplied to my comment and said hello
There has been a group of turkeys running around my house for a couple weeks now. One of them had to be "relocated" because it was chasing cars up and down my street. It would peck the side of your car if you stopped or parked.
I’m gonna say they walked past because they were right behind you when you ripped off a call. And then continued calling. If they’re silent, stay silent. You know the birds are in the area and frequent that area. Just gotta wait em out! Great vid though man love the challenges
Turkeys strut in the same spot every morning at the same time . Find where a gobbler is strutting around 8:30-9:00 am. Set up in afternoon , be there 45 minutes early and be quiet and wait. So easy that I quit hunting them.
You need camo gloves and a camo mask. Turkeys have good eyes. They see a floating head and hands and its probably scary as f. Imagine if your gf was yelling at you in the woods and you walked up and saw a floating head, I'd be freaking out. Edit i was writing this before watching the whole video
That's what the guide up the street says also. They go out to the fields because it's open, they can't hear predators approaching in the woods through the rain but they can see them coming across a field.
Look at the months of turkey season like the beginning start with a group of hens as turkeys want to group up at the start of spring and only one lone hen at the end of the season as 2 or 3 year old turkeys will get tried from fighting and will come in if their isn’t a Jake or bigger Tom near by.
That's because they know you're trying to hunt them In that situation, decoys aren't gonna work. Maybe they are gonna work, but it's a high chance they will work.
You're problem is you call entirely to much. I used to do the same thing until I went turkey hunting with a 67 year old life Long turkey hunter. He ask how many times do you call when you call at day break. I told him multiple times. I like you would hear a tom gobble and got way to excited. Well he told me that once I call and I hear a gobble that turkey already knows exactly where I'm at. He told me the woods is that turkey's back yard his home. When you call more than once an old tom will know something is just not right even though they may go see what is going on they will stay away never coming into range. He proved this to be 100% true when him and I went turkey hunting over 20 years ago now. He called once , tom gobbled and we sat quietly. That tom came in within 15 yards where he killed it. One call is all you need to do. Anything more just makes the tom jumpy and will not commit.
Youd benefit fgreatly from watching a video on the yt algorithm btw. Trim some fat, get a 40x optical zoom camera, Way more kills per video, 80% vlog 20% kills seems to be the sweet spot... other than that youre very close to doubling your views. Most ppl come for hunting and youre putting too much skippable vlog content up and every 10s skip kills your chances of a viral vid. Its just math. Peace and lo e
Little tip, in my experience decoys have almost always spooked turkeys in the woods. So I wouldn’t use them unless your out in a field or something
Your calling is one of the best I have heard on youtube

Just discovered your channel, you remind me of my younger self when I started hunting :)
Turkey tip ..if they're coming, let them come. Once they see the decoy, let them come. Don't screw it up by calling.
