What I would do with a new student is show them a few key rudiments, then find a favorite song. Play some of it for them and show how everything that I am doing is a rudiment. And as they learn they can see that they are putting together rudiments in a musical and enjoyable manor. They learn rudiments and they have fun and feel that they are progressing……because they are!
Me either. But I did make an attempt playing Guitar Hero with my kids and as a pretty good athlete I couldn’t even play pretend drums! Couldn’t put 2 beats together! He’s amazing and Guitar Hero helped me to appreciate that❤️
It's the way that cameras record. This is probably 30 frames per second, which cause very, very minor things to be left out of the shot. So it can look weird with super fast movements.

I can do all that he did as fast as he did on the pad. However, when it comes to actually using those around the kit like he did, I’m light years behind! It seems so easy when you’re doing flams or drags or paradiddle on one drum, but to keep that same speed playing two or four or more drums, definitely takes years of practice! He could absolutely add (just off the cuff) any of those to a song that doesn’t have them in it and make it sound as it was written that way! I don’t know if it’s because it’s one of the first things you learn, but I can be trying a new beat/exercise on the pad, and the next thing you know (without meaning too) I’m playing a paradiddle lol!
After a certain level, any professional drummer can play anything by anyone. Saying a drummer is “the best” is such a subjective and irrelevant statement.

Agreed. Never got into them. I sold a hell of a lot of their music and merch at my old job over all my years there. Travis always had me fanning myself, and I always wanted to see him in a band I actually enjoy. I have respect and appreciation for Blink, they just never did it for me.

Spent lots of time in this very high end fragrance store in Santa Monica trying to make sure to get his order right. The guy gave me nothing as a tip. Neither on app or in person. The order was close to $1200. What a clown
Mario Duplaniter of Gojira does an hour straight of double bass, and 2 more hours of mixed time signatures. This is daily. Then a 1 hour warm up before the show. He could do those paradidles with one hand, one foot and still do another song with the extra limbs 😅. There is a breakdown of the Into the Storm intro, and The Art of Dying intro and it's mind numbing. Travis is a cool dude but he isn't even halfway as far as some of these progressive metal drummers (Dannor- Mastadon, Thomas- Meshuggah etc)
Everyone is gonna call me dumb as hell, I've heard Travis alone, and on features, and I've listened to quite a bit of blink 182, and I had no idea he's the drummer for the band 😂😂😂
Just remember, if you’re thinking sloppy but it sounds great, a runner that’s faster than a bunch of other people, but doesn’t have great form, you don’t fix it cuz you’ll ruin their progress. So however you learn your fundamentals, as long as it works, doesn’t matter how others perceive it
My buddy's dad showed us once how to do triplet paradiddle flam taps, still to this day I can't even come close I don't even understand what he showed me. So it was triplet paradiddles but every right left right right left right left left was flam tapped and I my arms I can't do it😢😂
He's a great technical drummer and uses rudiments really well in songs

You might even say they're rudimentary

This is a terrific warm up routine, no doubt. It's not really "crazy" if you know the rudiments. Pretty basic but still awesome.
