Here are 10 tips to make songs sound better: 1. Add sidechain to the louder synths when the beat plays (the beat will sound much clearer). When the kick plays make sure it's powerful but not too OTT. 2. If you want to, you can cut the chords just before the snares come in 3. For the snare add a high-pitched one along with another few layered snares and sprinkle some reverb. Make sure to cut the reverb before the next kick comes in otherwise it will bleed into the next chord impact (applicable for if you're making chords that cut just before the snare) 4. Don't be afraid to add in layers, just make sure they sound good together otherwise it will sound chaotic. Supersaws (saw waves with a whole lot of voices) already sound pretty chunky. 5. Stay in the scale, especially with lower-pitch sounds and with leads because if you don't, they would clash together and will sound pretty horrible 6. Always EQ the song and add filters if you want it to sound full 7. Use white noise in the synths to fill the song even more (ensure that the noise isn't too loud or too quiet) 8. If you're adding in a piano or any other manual instrument try to not make the notes play at the same time, but add a bit of delay to each note (for example let one note play and shortly after let the other notes join in), and add different velocities to each one to make it sound more natural 9. In some genres, especially future bass and melodic dubstep, you can create a sort of "wub wub" sound by messing around with the volume of the synths, or if you're lazy, just add in attack to the synths. 10. For leads and basses, try and stick with some modified saws because in my opinion, saws are usually best with basses and leads. If you're creating a bass with saw waves, it would be better to add distortion and some noise (once again to fill up the empty spots) And there they are! I hope I helped some of you guys, and if there's anything you want me to fix, please tell me.
When talking about layering the chords, I think it's really important to emphasize the importance of having each layer within it's own space in the frequency spectrum and each sound having their own kind of identifying features which, when blended together, sound like one thicc sound. I noticed that 2 of the layers in the Illenium chord stack were basically the exact same, where changing up the sounds and having different layers using different notes can add an extra bit of depth that copy and pasting the chords over can't replicate.
The PRO result is LEGENDARY! it just made me shiver because how good the sounds are! Please tell me there is a full version of it, i can listen to it for hours!!!
1:19. Lmfao. I’ve been doing this shit for like 9 years and I slap a “house music” or “it’s a smash hit” somewhere in all of my tracks. Honesty, using “it’s a smash hit” vocoded to a serum saw, with a filter linked to the peak controller of the initial phrase, and the knobs adjusting a cmb- filter on a second iteration of a serum fx rack sounds pretty slick. I think I learned that from seamless. Can’t remember if He used peak controller or articulator tools…but yeah man. My ass made a whole ass drop out of “it’s a smash hit”. I
If you want to try something fancy with the chords, use the 9th and the 6th in the chords (especially the 9th). Lower tones of chords should be spaced out more than the higher tones to follow the harmonic series. Not necessary, but a fun little thing to create some chords with flavor
I just installed sylenth1 again the other day and didn't realise you don't download the demo then add your license key and the "Thank you for trying this demo" hit so hard. I miss those days. I once rendered out a song on the fl demo and using the sylenth1 demo in small sections, then used windows movie maker to piece them together and upload it, just so that it didn't have that in it and I couldn't open the project if I saved it
Fun and informative tutorial - thank you! Cool walk-thru on the drum sounds. Pro version - has much more dynamic contrast between the two sections demo'd than in the Ill. The cohesive sound of Ill second section is tight and glued sweet.
I remember when I just started using FL and watching your tutorial, can't believe it's been over 3 years ^^ Also, the Sylenth1 demo "thank you for trying this demo" is bring trauma back to me xD
so many layers and no soul. People forget that it's not about the number of layers or sidechaining, it's about how the song makes you feel. A simple melody has the potential to do that without water drops and 5 different bass instruments and 3 different chord tracks. The 'pro' version is a clear example. It works so hard for nothing, the end result doesn't leave you with anything
I disagree, I actually loved the "pro" track when I made it. But it's subjective after all, if you don't like it it's fine. We probably don't like the same music! :)
Honestly I liked the Pro part way more than Illenium, and while that may just be my personal preference for the style, it still felt a lot more powerful
Yeah I think The vocal chops of the Illenium track are just to complex. The pro ones just hit way harder and it's absolutely sick. I hope it gets released some day.
That third note in the bass movement hanging on that same note for an extra in the drop of ur version of 'Dont let me down' gave my OCD a meltdown. So close but not quite the same....
Very nice i love future bass👍but i have a big problem. Always when i put future bass chords, bass, kick and a melody together, the chords and the melody are realy fighting about their space and when i take the high end out of the chords it sounds very bad😐do you have any tips so that they fit together?
