    Coming from a type 1 diabetic, I can totally understand where Oliver is coming from when he didn’t want to tell the girls about it, it’s terrifying and you’re trying to figure it out on your own and you can’t find the words to tell people and it sucks, but once you find your own system it gets easier and it might be easier to tell your friends but that’s completely up to you

      I remember the first time I watched this episode this scene was shown, but the last time I watched it, they changed the last scene when Miley and Lily confronted Oliver about knowing diabetes. I was so confused until I realized that they changed this scene because Disney got complaints on how Oliver explained diabetes in a way it was wrong, so they had to redo this scene. The scene in this video is considered the "lost" episode of Oliver's diabetes just because of the missed confusion on how diabetes actually works

    I have no clue why Disney doesn't keep this episode. This is one of their best episodes and teaches kids to not only help out and listen to their friends but also to trust their friends to do their own thing. As someone who loves helping people, knowing when it's my turn to back off is an important thing I've learned and I love how this episode shows that Miley and Lilly needed to trust Oliver to tell them and to figure it out. On top of all that, it talks about diabetes.
    Edit: Oh and this episode really highlights their love for Oliver. He's often their punching bag but in this episode they not only confronted the nurse, thinking she was encouraging their 16-year-old friend to be in a relationship with her, but they went out of their way to protect him from foods, even if it wasn't truly protecting him.

They changed a few scenes & renamed the episode, then reaired it about a yr later. The U.S. never saw the original version, but they saw the reaired one. This scene is actually from the reaired version too.

    I never related to Oliver so much! Christmas of 2015, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, too. And it caused me to go into this deep depression and fear of people thinking that I was broken. I was so embarrassed that I did my insulin in the school bathroom before lunch every day for the first 4 or 5 months before actually doing it at the lunch table. It took a good while, but I'm almost 4 years in and I feel great and confident.

  • @mariahrojas3660
    @mariahrojas3660 8 лет назад +439

    He forgot to tell them that he also has to take insulin when he eats(unless he is low) and at night/morning for all day long lasting blood sugar balancing. Or at least as much as it can be balanced. And fail on Disney's part because for him to have checked his blood sugar he would have needed to prick himself with the poker that comes with that meter, put a test strip in the meter and put blood on the test strip. He did none of those things so the only way he would really know if his blood sugar was low is if he felt faint or weak or something. My husband is type 1 diabetic so I know. Also he can eat sugar if he takes insulin to compensate for it.

      The modern technology is better today than it was, so It seems right. But this Hannah Montana-episode is many years old, so the information we got through this episode is wrong, yes. They've missed a lot of important information.

    • @mariahrojas3660
      @mariahrojas3660 8 лет назад +6

      My husband has had to prick his finger and use the meter and test strip since he was ten. he is now 19 almost 20. That means he has been doing it for 9 years. This episode aired around that time. And I remember the meter commercials and finger pricking stuff from even before that. Nothing about this is right. It's just another example of Hollywood misrepresenting serious issues. They have done with this diabetes and other things forever. I still love this show though:)

      I think the reason he has that mentality is because at the end of the day, they're kids. Sometimes as a kid you see things bigger than they are, especially when you're a little different from your friends. Also it wasn't really common (and I still think it isn't) for TV to portray a character with diabetes.

      The thing they portrayed was a glucose meter. They require a blood sample from your finger. Obviously Oliver didn't actually do that. I don't blame them for not wanting to scare kids or something, but we do have to physically prick our fingers multiple times/day so it's kinda inaccurate to just look at it and say your BS's low. BUT, (side note I have type 1:)) that glucometer portrayed here was one of the first ones I received when I was diagnosed, because it was small and came in a lot of colors haha! Bonus info: I now (and many diabetics) wear a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) that tells me what my sugars are approximately all the time

      They have things called cgms and pumps that can check your sugar without a fingerstick. Think it was supposed to be one of those. Even though I believe it was just a regular meter from the looks of it. But it is possible to not have to stick your fingers, at least not often

    You would not eat a brownie if your bloods are low....you can have a brownie and then a correction dose. Also when did he ever prick his finger?

    • @caitlincorrigan2680
      @caitlincorrigan2680 5 лет назад +1

      You don’t need to prick your finger to check sugars. Pumps and cgms can check sugars without finger sticks. Also, a brownie will raise his sugar levels. However, he should do something with simple carbs, cause it will work faster. But for a Disney production.. they did a pretty dang good job of representing type 1 for the short time slot they had.

    Originally Titled as “No Sugar, Sugar” in season 2 but there’s a lot of technical errors and mistake. Hannah’s wig got stuck in cotton candy that’s why she changed her wig in season 3. They rerun/reshoot some scenes and re air it in season 3. I downloaded all episodes but this one isn’t included though I’ve watched it once in Disney Channel.

    I also have type 1 diabetes I was diagnosed on my 15th birthday and now im 19 going on 4 years! I love when disney talk about real issues /problems that people do go through and struggle with conditions. And I like how Oliver educate them and so many other people that Diabetes is not from eating too much sweets/sugar its when your pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin. And i think its important to asked questions and be more educated and find truth and not make assumptions.
