6 months out here, had both done 3 weeks apart. Definitely had the pain as described but it started dissipating after about 4 months. Started cutting the grass and playing golf again around the 4 month mark and the would be sore after, but now they have really started to loosen up and that pain has also started to go away. So far I have been very happy with my rehab and recovery. Surgeon said it would be 12 to 18 months before all the stiffness would go away, but so far I seem to be right on schedule. Don’t go in with expectation that you’ll be back to normal in 4 to 6 weeks, it ain’t happening. Good luck to everyone that’s having or had this procedure. I have to say, I am so glad I had them done.
Wow this is what I’m going through right now. I’m 6 weeks post op for knee replacement and I began noticing this pain around 4 weeks after my surgery and plan on mentioning this to my Doctor. This video is awesome and answered most of my questions.
It's unbelievable how these videos come to me at just the right time! I am 8 weeks post-tkr. I have occasional pain in that exact spot but only when I'm in bed and I've slept soundly on my side. When I wake up and go to move onto my back to sit up, the pain is excruciating. Only for a short time and once I've moved it to straight, the pain is gone. I had my 8-week appointment yesterday and the surgeon indicated it could be an irritation of the MCL caused during surgery since there's lots of trauma in there when they're working on it. I have the same pain in the other knee, which is due for replacement next year. Thank you sincerely for these videos. I've learned a lot and it's great to realize I'm not alone and more often than not "this is normal".
I’m just 6 days post op at home and haven’t start the real physical therapy yet but already started with home pt and nurse care for 2 weeks , let’s see how this goes for me, it’s really swollen and still in pain and doing my home exercise that was provided for me to do.🙏🙏🙏🙏😩😥😒
it absolutely happened to me. when I bring it up to my PT, she looks at me and basically says "you mean like the top of the bone was CUT OFF and an implant HAMMERED into place kind of pain?" and I say, yeah, like that. and then I calm down. I get it. A lot of trauma and my body just needs to heal.
@Fitnessoneai Sorry to hear about your Mom. Like he stated in the video, in time the pain goes away. I only took ibuprofen for pain. Prescription meds gave me too much complications. She will feel better as the months go by. It took a year for my first knee to feel really good. I wish her all the best.
Now how about your Pain, My Mother Suffering from this Pain do you have Any Solution? Nothing Comes in X ray, Doctor say everything ok, i am confused what to do.
Wow that’s exactly what I had starting at week 7 and I’m currently in week 10. I compare it to an electrical shock or an injection at the exact spot noted in the video. Mine usually happens when sitting of laying down and on the pain scale can be a 1 to a 5. Very short lived but can repeat 5 or 6 times. I hope this subsides very, very soon. Thanks.
Hello, I am 4 1/2 months out from TKR right leg. I had medial pain after my first 2 knee surgeries and also my TKR, as for me my medial stopped and lateral pain took over. I have felt a nagging pain in between the upper and lower prosthesis, the surgeon says it's more than likely a patella tracking issue, also the medial /ligament issue mentioned above, she says is likely from the re-straightning of the bone and that PT will re-strengthen the ligaments and muscles. Personally I feel if they would have allowed me to keep the ice machine longer after surgery most of these issues would be gone much sooner, my 2 cents anyway. Good luck everyone. Thanks Tony for what you do, I don't know where I would be without my Physical Therapist.
I had my TKR in January 2020 and initially just had normal expected pain , however after first 12 months started to get a nipping pain occasionally on the lower interior of the replacement, which has got much worse . Saw original consultant he said it was nerve pain and I just felt like he was fobbing me off. Went for a second opinion and she found a small gap on the X-ray, had aspiration to check the knee was not infected , which it isn’t . Now going for a bone scan this week . Hopefully I will get an answer as to why I’m in so much pain , more so than before the replacement .
This exact pain started for me around the 9 week mark. My PT guy had me stop pt and go see the doctor. Got X-ray and doctor says everything looks ok can't see a problem. He had me Stop riding my bike and no more PT for a while. It's been 7 weeks now I still have a lot of pain on inside of knee first thing in morning but it does seem to be getting better. I noticed Tylenol and Ibuprofen combo seems to help it. I watched one of your other videos and what you pointed out is when they put the new joint in they straighten your leg putting loads on areas that may not have had a load on it in many years. I still worry about this because of a prior injury where the top of my tibia basically was shattered and sticking out the side of my leg. So for me I will take more time off work because I would rather be safe then sorry and have to go through that whole mess again.
Sounds like you are doing it right! Thanks for sharing your experience. Everyone is different and your history of fracture certainly makes a difference. PS: Thanks for subscribing to the channel.
This describes the pain exactly. I'm 13 weeks post TKR and the symptoms come and go throughout the day but it's mostly noticeable in the evening. I have recently found that heat causes this pain to go away completely so evenings on the heating pad are the norm. I'm hopeful that since the pain is not constant throughout the day that it may be healing and potentially go away in the next few weeks. I wanted to share the details about affects of heat for anyone suffering with this issue.
@@anng8811 Hello - Nerve Pain is not an issue at this point. Walking several miles each day but wearing a knee sleeve for extra support as it minimizes any swelling or stiffness afterward.
Mine is because he put the wrong size in 🤦♀️and it’s an overhang the only way to fix it is to do a revision which the dr says it’s worse operation I found this out at my 1st year follow up and yes I was complaining about this pain the whole year and he finally admitted he put the wrong size in. So I’m living with the pain.
Mine was wrong size also...after 6yrs of pain had my revision 7wks ago. Best decision! No where near as painful as first surgery. Had no problem sleeping, leg is perfectly straight, bend at 130. Still pain and tightness, but its early yet!! Get another surgeon that does revisions and go for it!! Good Luck!!

My knee is not red or swollen so I don’t think it’s an infection.I work at a PT office part time two days a week and encountered a patient who need too have a revision to his tibia implant because it loosened up within the first three years. He said he had pain in the same area as was mentioned so it brought me to some concern. He told me it hurt all the time. I can walk up stairs without pain .I feel it more when I am moving less.I contacted my Drs office and they said to come if it doesn’t get better.I know they usually do an X-ray but after speaking with the gentleman who had the revision , his loosening tibia implant was found with a MRI and not with an X-ray. Hopefully my knee will get better in the next 6 months.
I had my knee replacement September of 2019. I still have this pain. It’s horrible! I feel like I traded one problem with another. My sister has the exact same thing! Doctors don’t know what to make of it.
Hi Mary, sorry to hear that. Have you been back in physical therapy? Have you tried other healthcare professionals? There are lots of things that can cause pain beside the replacement itself.
I had my tkr jan 2021-it is now jan 2023 and the pain was from day one and is still just as bad-i live i with regret daily-i also got a complication in my entire leg called complex regional pain syndrome from this surgery and it feels as if my entire leg is wrapped tightly in duct tape-horrible!!!…still on pain meds and just had a nerve block done on my new knee three weeks ago and its slightly better-then they will look at ablating the nerves which is supposed to last 1 1 /2 yeas so basically-numb the problem cuz we ant fix it now-for the rest of my life…:(
My knee replacement is 18 years old. I am very active and fairly recently, 5 months or so, I am experiencing this pain in that exact spot. I am wondering if there are small fissures forming from use... It is more acute when I mtn bike and the down stroke of the pedal when there is pressure on the joint when I am on the ball of my foot. Flat footed is not as bad. I would be interested in your thoughts.
Whilst I'm waiting for a left knee partial replacement, I often have very sharp pain, exactly as you describe, in my right knee particularly when driving and when sleeping. Essentially, it's when my knee is bent at a constant angle for any length of time. It does go away once the leg is straitened, but until then the pain is quite severe. This does bring into question the cause of the pain as this knee has not been operated on. Due to the damage to my left knee, my right leg takes a bit of a beating and does swell up occasionally, so it's possible it's the swelling acting on a nerve at that point that's the cause of the pain rather than physical damage to the area following surgery.
My mother had a tkr surgery, she is in her 3rd week after surgery. All seems fine except she is unable to do short arc quadricep execise. However she os dping very well the lomg arc quadriceps. I I hope it will recover with time or is there anything to be worried aboutm

Eye doctor and physical therapist are no help course. My doctor took an x-ray and said everything looks fine. Well it's not fine. I'm just wondering when it's going to get better. It's like getting cattle prodded on and off throughout the afternoon. I thought after 6 weeks I'd be much better. Don't know what to do😢

Hi, I had a total knee replacement over 5 weeks ago. As I began exercises and physio therapy, I notice I was having shooting pain on the inner part of the knee in/near the new joint. I'm due to see my orthopedic surgeon next week so he may do x-rays and comment further having seen inside my joint during surgery. I appreciate you indicating that the pain maybe possibly due to the surgery, removing the bone and placing the implant on top and it being slow to heal. My wife also mentioned that it might be due to the removal of a large bone spur on the inner point of my arthritic knee that was removed during surgery that may have posed a complication. Do you think it is likely this also could be why I get this pain?
@@XLDJWHAT Its been just over 8 months since my knee surgery. My knee has settled down in terms of pain and discomfort. I take an Ibuprophen for minor pain now. I have lost strength in my thigh, calf and I'm still 10 lbs. down in weight. I do knee/leg exercises at home, go to a physiotherapist once a month to narrow focus my exercises and check progress. I'm in the "grunt" stage where gains are small now despite my efforts. I was doing single dumb bell dead lifts and hurt the muscle/tendon above my left and right knee periodically such I had to use creams to alleviate, take pain medication. I've even had to take a week off while I recover. I realize you have to be patient while recovering and some exercises are not right for you and this is one of them. Apparently my physio yesterday said the strength in my leg will come back, but not the mass of the muscle, which will take time. I'm now having to adjust my home / gym exercises to also help my hip in addition to my knee. Still, all this is nothing compared to the excessive nasty pain of the arthritic knee before or post operative after surgery. Go easy in your recovery....
I need help please. Almost 2 years after total knee replacement, the mechanics of the knee seem to be fine. However, every month or two, when I inadvertently move the leg / knee into a deep bend or twist, I get severe pain in the exact inside area you mention on this video. It is such extreme pain, feels like a hot ice pick sticking into me. Shortly thereafter, I get pseudo knee lock, which renders me unable to straighten my leg and I can't stand or walk; this has lasted for up to 6 hours. I go back to my ortho dr. probably every 3 months to get help. He says in 35 years of practice he's never seen this and has no idea what is going on. He gives me steroid shots and prescribes "Baclofen". I'm frustrated that I can't get a diagnosis let alone treatment; can you help or give me advice on where to get help?
My Mother Suffering From this Pain Please Anyone Have solutions? After 1.3 year of TKR, I visited Doctor, they Take x rays, Say Everything ok, I don’t have Idea?
No misconceptions its 50/50 the operation of it turning out. My wife is on percocets for the rest of her life her surgeon really fucked big and butchered her knee. He was fired from doing that.
Hello I have been having extreme pain in my shin, calf, and inner side of my knee after TKR I had a serious break in the tabula and fibula bones and knee joint three years ago and several operations to fix those issues the tightness is very painful I exercise regularly and while I'm working out the pain gets a bit better but the pain returns soon after. During the original break the perennial never had been pinched by the broken bone back there they said looking at the x-ray that the bones had healed all the way through but I still have lots of pain in these areas very had to deal with 😭
During a standard TKA we (I) dissect the distal insertion of the MCL, this fact along with: muscle atrophy of the Vastus Medialis, the shift of ligament tension and the shift in weight loading over the tibial plateau, contribute to pain here. My regular treatment is: icing, working the vastus medialis and if the pain is constant or it impedes physical therapy a corticoid/local anesthetic injection. Great subject to talk about! I would love to make a colab with you since I personally believe your channel is incredibly helpful for TKA patients
Thanks for this comment! I am more than happy to connect. I will message you on Facebook. Your information may help a lot of patients who will never get to actually work with you.
I’m glad that you mentioned the MCL. Mine became severely inflamed about 8 weeks post surgery, with no issues prior. It hasn’t gotten any better. It’s actually gotten worse. Now, it’s at the point to where there’s no pain while lying or sitting. But when I stand up, the pain is bad enough that I can’t walk for a few mins. I’ll wait the couple of months from my follow up visit to get the injection. 😔

How are you doing now?
Go easy in your recovery....
l had a knee replacement 3 years ago still have pain everyday some don"t sleep goog most night
What about that same pain 10 months after surgery, especially when leg weight is being lifted from lying down
I need help please.
My Mother Suffering from this Pain do you have Any Solution?

My Mother Suffering From this Pain Please Anyone Have solutions?
After 1.3 year of TKR, I visited Doctor, they Take x rays, Say Everything ok, I don’t have Idea?
No misconceptions its 50/50 the operation of it turning out. My wife is on percocets for the rest of her life her surgeon really fucked big and butchered her knee. He was fired from doing that.
i've had this problem for five months and then suddenly... it was gone!
Have the same 2 years out
2 years 😮 I'm 6 weeks out and I hope it will go away. The doctor and physical therapist is no help

The good ol’ medial colateral ligament… the bane of my existence!
Hello
I had knee replacement down below my knee I have a red spot and my leg look shiny why and I still have pain it’s been 8 months my doctor looks at me like I’m stupid
I get same acute pain intermittently in that place as well. 8 weeks PO.
Hi Deborah, thanks for sharing.
Should you have this pain after 5 months from your tkr
Should you??? No! But many absolutely do. The trick is trying to understand what is causing the pain.
Thank you
Im at 2 years exactly and my pain there is awful-feels like an ice pick is stuck in my knee there all the time…:( Im way worse off now

Most of my pain is on the outside of my knee.. but I am waiting for a ladicaine injection for my hips to be checked..
Found out that I have labrum tears in both hips are gone.
I think this video is what is happening with me.
This is me to a ‘T’
Nothing like it don't get better you go to doctors every week just a waste of time and money
Saphenous neuroma!
It’s probably painful when God punishes someone with knee injuries!
Maybe these kind of people need to kneel down sometimes!
Always the idiots chime in
