The thing is those slugs especially with the higher calibers they're made to hit flesh they're not made to go through metal steel some aluminum depending on how thick it is so just because it doesn't go in the middle or through the metal doesn't mean it's not absolutely annihilating to your skin you should shoot the ballistic gel with it and that will give you a better idea as to how dangerous it could be or what kind of damage it would do to skin
Pretty cool test. The slugs do require a powerful pcp rifle for them to be most affective in a hunting situation. They are designed to dump all their energy penetrate and mushroom inside the animals that you are hunting. Hardened steel causes premature mushrooming and reduced penetration of the projectile due to the energy dump and mushroom diameter. If you want a .25 air rifle that will probably blow through the grill than I would move up to the Airforce Condor SS in .25 and try this same test. It has adjustable power from fifty to ninety foot pounds of energy. I have one and it damages my spinner targets that are thirty yards away.

It's supposed to be more powerful but its just a prowler with iron sights. Still a good gun and much quieter but the air tact has a little more power. My hatsan is hitting 19.69 fpe and my prowler was hitting 17.4 fpe but way better for stealthy urban tree rat control.
Great content you are putting out and wonderful variety of pellets there! Yeah those hunter slugs that come in the green boxes are for PCP only! You are most definitely right when you said that you feel you are messing up or damaging your rifle when hammering them in. That’s most definitely not recommended and will destroy the seals inside if it’s a springer and will damage the breach due to hammer strikes. Same goes for a gas piston rifle, breach wise and will blow out the small rubber seal around the breach where the pellet sits…. 🤙🤙
@@lethalgunner4903 There is also the danger of the slug getting stuck in the barrel…. Not sure if there is a proper name for that phenomenon in air rifles. But with firearms it is called a “Squib Load.”
This is a neat video, but I think it doesnt reflect the true nature of pellets. You should do some meat targets instead of metal. A lot of these pellets are for hunting, and are meant to dump all the energy upon impact, so they're not going to go through metal, they're too blunt tipped & hollow pointed fir hunting purposes. The ones that go through the metal grill... personally I would not use those ones for hunting. They'll go straight through your animal & may wound instead of getting an ethical kill. Just my 2 cents bro. I'd love to see damage of pellet rounds on a pork tenderloin or something like that.
Took out the BBs from some .22 Gamo Rockets and shot it at metal for testing. Due to being lighter now, it slightly goes supersonic with a small pop. Upon hitting metal, it just splatters and fragments everywhere instead of mushrooming like most lead pellets. Likely pretty nasty if it hits meat. Used them on a Gamo .22 Magnum. There is still enough power behind them to do damage as well but wouldn't recommend them on shooting something you plan on eating due to possible shards.
Love my air tact .22 it shoots the cheap crosman hollow points great. I hit the bottom of a beer bottle at 70 yards. If your poor like me you can just stick a .177 bb in the skirt of a .22 cphp and load it backwards and its a ghetto rocket pellet.
I've used the crossman red flights for my gamo .22 magnum and it went straight through two layers of sheet metal about as thick as the grill. Definitely a stronger rifle though. Been trying to get my hands on some skenco .22 hyper velocity but it's obly available out of the states and shipping cost is roughly triple the cost of a single pack. Judging by the low weight on the hyper velocity, it will likely go supersonic everytime with my gamo .22 magnum.
Best steel penetrating pellet I ever came across was the John Rotherby Bisley bullet been out of circulation for at least twenty years, quite a few modern takes on the design but non that match the original pellet. No idea who made them Rotherby's very tight lipped on the subject. But possible to find the odd tin from collectors or old shop stock. The BSA storm not as stocky but will give you a vague idea to the pellets shape.
You can only get .25 caliber or larger calibers online, pyramid air, Amazon, etc. Incidentally, I love break barrels as well I have one pcp the Umarex Origin. I bought two hand pumps and can’t get it fill break barrels are less complicated and more reliable.
Yeah the slugs are for the PCP rifles but you can still shoot them out of break barrels I find it to where if I hold it in my hand and I tap the bottom on something metal not too hard it fits in there perfectly otherwise it'll slide around in the barrel and that's why they don't work so well but you can use them
Hunters supply slugs always suck in a springer. It will go true thin sheet of metal. But like always slugs are best in a PCP rifle. Due to it needs a lot more power. And hunters supply slugs are often a bit oversized. And very picky in barrel type. Best shot out of an polygon barrel
