  • If you live, work or visit Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood, you will likely see multiple tents with homeless people lining the streets. In spring of 2023, the City of Orlando awarded the Christian Service Center a $617,000 federal grant to move people move out of those tents and into more permanent housing. The goal was to lift 20 families out of homelessness in one year.

Simply make housing very cheap just like they were back in the 1970’s housing is the reason why the cost of living is ruined.

Sure, because clearly, affordable housing is just a matter of sacrificing all your little pleasures in life. Cancel Netflix, Hulu, and any semblance of fun. Who needs a roof over their head when you can have instant ramen for every meal? 🙄😅

Wasn’t that nice $30,000 for a 4 bedroom home and now same house $750,000

What about us working people? $18 to $21 a hour is the new low wage that don’t help when average cost to buy a home is almost $400,000

In the Orlando area, it's crucial to recognize that not everyone meets the same criteria for assistance, but we should prioritize education about the various options available. Job Corps provides vocational training, the military offers a structured path, and state and local opportunities exist. State and local initiatives can focus on training individuals in trades that meet the region's demands, such as street sweeping, sign holding, and other contractor jobs. Landscaping and pressure washing are also viable areas for employment. Additionally, state and local positions often come with attractive benefits.
Rather than simply shuffling individuals around, it's imperative that we collaborate closely. This entails not only training more case workers but fostering a spirit of cooperation among all stakeholders. Setting up temporary housing trailers, akin to what the military utilizes, is a promising approach. By working together efficiently, we can manage budgets and ultimately yield a positive return on investment through our commitment to improving the lives of the homeless community.
