    For my A3TC, I climb at 130 IAS on hot days to keep the temps below 380. Flying LOP at cruise also helps keep cylinder temps low. Other advantages of turbo: 1. easy hot starts 2. less workload - no touching the mixture on climb or descent.

    I rode in a V tail Bonanza back from central Mexico to Nor Calif. Fortunately I was in the front seat. It yawed back and forth, you could see the wing tip moving back and forth. The two guys in the back got air sick from it. Later I rode in my nephews A-36 Bonanza and it was rock solid and a fantastic ride. Loved that plane.

    I had the joy and opportunity to have been asked to ride along on early Sunday mornings with a retired attorney that owned a very, very well maintained and extremely beautiful late 60's V-tail/V-35 Bonanza. Dave was IFR rated and a very smooth, safe and competent Pilot. His sported a 3-blade prop and we would cruise at an average altitude of 7500' and around 174 indicated. The one thing that stands out to me about his Beech V-tail Bonanza, was the over-all build quality, like a light-weight tank/absolutely solid, yet elegant, the roominess, the way it and Dave seemed to tame any turbulence, the useful load and the over all speed. Beechcraft certainly earned its impeccable reputation. I miss those 40-to-45 minute 2-way flights from Frogmore International Airport, S.C. to St. Simon's Island, G.A. watching the sun rise over the Atlantic Coast and heading to the Sand Castle restaurant for home made sausage gravy and biscuits and back. Hope you are well Dave K.🙏🇺🇸👍

    Nice bird , I also have a turbo V35TV-A , I have a great appreciation of turbo management, I don’t have any of the fancy stuff but I built this from ground up I literally have touch every part took 4-5 years but I got A&P in 70 when I bought a B model that was in parts oddly I started with a tri pacer and had a hard landing turned to pacer so I loved working on them gives better idea of what you can push your aircraft to do for you when you need little extra, my tank is in front of front seat, but I’ve had my 76 model since 80 and I have modded it no antennas hanging out step is gone, few other and 3 other friends helped build my 520 I never have over boosted but close it be great to have that management system but I fly by ear most times you have great bird there I’d like to fly one like yours one day nice comparison!

    Couple errors, V Tails can ( albeit unrealistically just like the 36) seat 6 if configured. My S-35 was a 6 seater. After a few decades as a Naval aviator I chose the V Tails over the 36s as much better planes, since the other misnomer is that it had a bad reputation, it actually had an undeserved reputation caused by the pretension of then-Bo pilots. Properly maintained, flown, it's still flew better than any 36 I flew, was lighter on the controls, and was much more the clone of the lovely little T-34. My S-35 handled my 7000 ft home airport perfectly, and better than friends' 36s. Your cruise speeds equalled mine. Fuel burn was less ROP. True... In the long-haul, I ended up with a Yak 52 since Bonanzas are more management IMC commuters than 7/-5g aviator planes, and that's what I needed. Glad you like your plane, but it affirms the wives tales remain... I'm just glad I picked my 6-seat, good-rep V tail (hence great insurance)... Just to note the corrections...
    Now Btw, as a CFII (and several thousand hours in formation) I just can't ignore this, too... Your formation seemed pretty non-standard, a bit verbose, and ripe for issues, just curious if you guys did a 2-plane dissimilar airframe standardardized form brief, and if you both have certified formation cards? If not, a great place for standardization is with groups like RPA. When I saw you flying acute, with weird closure rates, I was cringing LOL. You have a nice plane, save yourself the risk and get correctly trained, and then brief, then fly the correct training... Form can bite, Fwiw. So be humble about what you could learn and sign up for some fun... :-)

    Would be so awesome if Beech introduced a 2021 model 'A-37' and 'V-37' Bonanza with an over-all modern design scheme, without having to start from ground up with clean sheet design. Modernizing project could possibly be: reshape all glass/window lines, new cowl/intake cooling ports/vents, increase or maintain useful load by replacing many of the aluminum parts/skins with lighter in weight carbon fiber, offer an optional pressurized cabin with an optional TC Jet-A power-plant, to include a T-handle throttle lever and full fadec, optional A/C, the latest/greatest de-icing system, all new panel design/lines and a few panel equipment/instrument options. Maybe replace older yokes with ones used on late model King Air's (to include PTT and trim controls) and utilize the latest in light-weight sound deadening insulation wherever possible. Would be in my very humble opinion, one extremely awesome, elegant, solidly fabricated and beautiful GA aircraft, especially if suggested retail could remain as reasonable as possible.

    Bobby, thanks for doing that Waco a while back! That is one of my all time favorite airplanes.
    In this video, the camera that was under the plane had the wings in the frame and I have a question about the black grip tape on the right side wing. Does that grip tape produce any noticeable drag? Or does it act like a kind of vortex generator and give that side a little more lift?
    Has anyone contacted you about coming to see their Honda Jet? That looks like it would be an incredible airplane to fly.
    Cheers!

At 11,000ft I consistently fly 15.4gph, 171kt true, 370’s on temps, 28”mp,2300rpm. If you are not getting book numbers something is wrong.

    • @stacymcmahon453
      @stacymcmahon453 5 лет назад

      An intercooler (really, an aftercooler) gets better efficiency from the turbo by cooling the intake air which makes it denser and therefore more of it into the cylinder per valve opening. This also helps prevent heat soak in the intake manifold, up to a point.
      Air cooled engines are inherently prone to overheating and shock-cooling, even in cars where they don't see big ambient temperature variations like you get in the air. The answer is liquid cooling, but the GA piston market just isn't big enough or free-wheeling enough to make the transition.

      Yes, at the same time than left main gear. I have the same plane and an instructor told me to be careful not to touch with the main gear first, you have to hold the flare until the main gear touch. You may damage the nose gear. When are 3 or more people on board is easy because the CG goes aft, but with full fuel and only front seat occuped it's a little tricky because the plane gets to nose heavy. This whole video was edgy I felt like. He cut you off multiple times... and his comment on big bore Continentals... I fly them all them time on original factory gauges. Not to mention the video was accelerated to a certain degree.
    I fly a 1958 Cessna 182A off analog CHT and EGT flying jumpers well past TBO, max performing the engine all the way up to altitude. KGLS if you ever want to catch me. I have done it successfully as well as many pilots before me. All this garbage of 'saving the engine', and his strictness on insisting other things, that have nothing to do with operating limitations shows very easily.
    Doesn't take way from the aircraft itself, just wish we could have seen it with a different perspective.

      @fly4fun610 5 лет назад +1

      In a Continental IO-360, fresh from overhaul with factory new cylinders and pistons, I lost two cylinders (out of six) due to them being run much too lean. The cylinder with the factory EGT gauge was running much cooler than the rest of the cylinders because of a mismatch of fuel injector nozzles. An engine analyzer would have made the problem immediately obvious, long before it was necessary to do a top overhaul on otherwise new cylinders. I'm in the camp that flying without an engine analyzer is something to be avoided if at all possible.

      @@fly4fun610 Engine analyzers are great and all, but we operate at 100° rich of peak EGT on an O-470, and have not had any issues due to stoichiometric ratios of combustion or cylinder head temperatures. Engine analyzers are great if you want precision and better fuel burn. I don't think they are necessary to allow the engine to last longer though.
