Wouldnt the WD40 eventually cause some type of build up?

Not at all. The wd40 is on the outside of the cassette to help it slide in and out smoothly. I've been using it for ten years now. Besides half of my patients getting hepatitis, which is a total coincidence, there have been no ill effects.
