Appalachian Trail Day 10 - Bear Attack & Tramily Reunion

One of the most memorable days on trail, no doubt! Woke up at 1:50 am to a bear sniffing my head, immediately turned and yelled “HEY!” which luckily scared the bear out of the shelter. I was definitely alert now and got in my sandals and headlamp to figure out what had happened. It had been in there multiple times because it had taken my whole cooking system as well as my shoe. Luckily i retrieved those items out in the meadow the next morning. It also tossed around my toilet paper, ski buff, and clothing. I was lucky it ran and didn’t react and come back at me. At 4 am it returned grunting deeply behind the shelter but I pounded the roof and yelled to keep it away. I got my day started at 7am and walked all wet all day through the soggy leaves and pouring rain. 2,000 feet remaining of elevation to Clingmans Dome, where I got the 209 mile marker, called my best friend Brad to celebrate, and met up with friends from Tennessee that hiked the remaining 8 miles with me in the rain. My feet are so soggy and falling apart. Luckily Jo stayed up there with me and we slept in the bed of her truck, she saved me! Fun evening with them all, what a memorable day!

It would be best to always carry a pocket knife in case of bear attacks. Sumon up your "Come and get you sum" attitude, roll out of the bunk swinging some steel, the Bear will not only drop your stuff, he may put it back.
