Agreed. Without question, TizenOS is just about the single worst TV OS on the market today. It's backwards, non-intuitive and entirely confusing at best. I can't even tell you how many people I've spoken to that have said that the TizenOS is so bad that the ONLY way they would ever consider buying a Samsung TV would be if they could immediately plug in an external streaming device and never have to use the TizenOS for anything other than changing TV settings. It is so unpopular (even with Samsung customers) that there is talk that Samsung will eventually be forced to just drop it from their TVs altogether and move over to the far easier and more intuitive GoogleTV streaming platform like so many other TV companies have already done.

For anyone thinking they need to hold off on The A95L because of DV issues. I don’t think that’s the case anymore. My A95L recently got a software update. And it fixed the only issue I had with Dolby Vision. That issue was the tv not going into DV mode on Paramount Plus content that supported it. That was the only issue I’ve ever had with DV. DV on the A95L looks fantastic on multiple streaming platforms: Disney Plus, Prime, Netflix, Paramount Plus, Apple TV, etc. Don’t be afraid to purchase an A95L, I still think it’s the best tv on market and can’t recommend it enough.

    • @michaelbeckerman7532
      @michaelbeckerman7532 3 месяца назад

That whole DV issue on the A95L was blown way out of proportion right from the very start. It was a problem of the A95L not getting DV absolutely perfect right out of the gate like it admittedly should have been. This was always a very small problem for the A95L though, never a big one.

The problem with TVs like the TCL and the Hisense models isn't how they look or how they perform - that part is great, no question about it. It's their reliability over the long term that is lacking. Understand that when you are buying a gigantic TV at a price that is just "too good to be true" like what some of these TCL and Hisense models now sell for now, you really aren't getting the deal you think you are. Those TVs are being sold at those lower price points because they are built using less expensive, lower-quality components that simply will not last as long. Now, ANY TV (from ANY brand) can break on you or have problems so you should ALWAYS put whatever TV you buy under one of the additional protection plans offered by your retailer, just to be on the safe side. But having said that, the old saying really does turn out to be true in the TV space: You get what you pay for!

Sadly, the already challenged projector market is now getting damaged even further today with the emergence of amazing new TVs like the Bravia 9. The very small fraction of TV buyers that were at least considering possibly buying a projector (2% to 3% of them, if that) shrinks now with each passing year. As much as projectors have improved today, they simply just are not winning the hearts and minds of TV buyers. Unfortunately, for projector manufacturers, they aren't even coming close either.

People are asking, where is the Bravia 4, 5 and 6 that appear to have been skipped in Sony's 2024 TV lineup? We now know that MediaTek has released their new Pentonic 800 SoC that has some distinct advantages over even the higher-end Pentonic 1000 SoC that the current Cognitive XR processor is based on. Could Sony surprise everyone and release even more new 2024 models later on in the year based on the Pentonic 800? No one knows for sure and anything at this point is just wild speculation, of course,...but stranger things have happened!

Maybe it was the content but the A95L looked more real and it obviously has better colour rendition. There are also a couple of technical reviews around showing the A95L is in front in a few area whilst the G4 is ahead in less areas. Maybe the areas the A95L are in front are more important for a realistic picture.

I was down to the G4 and QN900D. I kept my mind open as I needed lots more comparisons before I made an informed decision.
I saw the gaming comparison of the G4 and S95D, which I had written off due to tech reviews, and was blown away at how much more color luminance and brilliance it had.
I immediately dropped the G4 and added the A95L and S95D, but sadly had to drop the A95L as it doesn't have a third gen QD-OLED panel. But the A95L was my second favorite and would've been "the one" had it the tech upgrades of the new panel.
I dropped the QN900D as that tech isn't quite ready yet. I wanted 8k so bad, but I reluctantly dropped that as an option.
I'm now down to the S95D and still keeping my eyes peeled for changes. I am about informed decisions.
      For what I want, the order is S95D > A95L > S90D > G4
There was a shocking gap with even the S90 series and the G4, but for what I want to get out of it. I realize there are different strokes for different folks as wants/needs vary.

I must say... I kinda like the way you talk about brigtness. You're ignoring the HDR aspect of it and treat it as SDR, where it's all about the amount of light a TV can output.
These days brightness has a different meaning. It represents the ability to achieve the HDR highlights at a level that doesn't require clipping and retains all the color information.
I'm personally not so into HDR, but I respect it. And I actively dislike DV. It's 50/50 if it's being used effectively or it's distracting/too realistic. Movies just look good in SDR, it's more subdued and stylized.

What's the theoretical pure black for a dark room and one with a bit of ambient light? Talking straight on.
I was watching a video of the Z9D against a Panasonic OLED shot by Vincent and that TV has a contrast ratio of 8,000 and it looks stunningly dark. However the Q60D also has ~8,000 contrast ratio and it's far from perfect if you look at Rting's images.

Fomo, did you have the Bravia 9 on Local Dimming high? The default is Local dimming on medium by Sony. Of course local dimming on high helps with blooming and so on. But it can reduce the highlight brightness. So with LD on Medium it might have shown the stars more etc. I remember you saying in the Bravia 9 video that was solo with the 3110 that you changed it to LD high.
I hope this wasn't in LD High because that is your setting that causes the "compromise" of specular highlights. I am very certain it was LD high because there were times the black was almost blacker than the G4. That wouldn't happen on high exposure if the B9 was in LD medium. It's a choice less blooming and deeper black in a dark room with LD high. But loss of specular highlights a bit. But LD Medium they are stronger. But a slight chance of little more blooming. But often not showing anyway.

g4 crushes it as the guy said above, b8 on roids.
The b8 is using a LG woled panel with no enhancements other than software
The g4 has MLA which makes it much brighter and increases the color volume. On top of that it has the newest LG processor which many are saying meets or even exceeds the xr from Sony. There is any special tricks to the display, LG display helps LG electronics.
I think this is why LG has the best burn in protection. They have the guys that know the panels on speed dial with full support.
So even processing isn't an advantage with the new LG processor exclusive to the G4. I hear and see from various creators that it is ahead of xr processing. LG had been closing the gap for years. Not surprising they had a big move this year and caught up fully.
The b8 is equivalent to a c4. It's a legit step down in hardware.
The a95L is what you'd compare to the g4. That's a good deal get the G4 and I can almost guarantee you'll be extatic when you get it setup.
Especially going up in size and brightness by significant margins. Color too. They used software to get it to look more like a QD OLED and honestly based on videos, it does just that
It's equal in some scenes, touch worse in others, but better in some! So really, the colors this year are a strong point for LG.

I am not excited about a Sony projector exec coming to Epson.
Maybe it’s being cynical, but I see HT enthusiasts have pretty much soured on Sony projectors in the last few iterations.
    Sony whispering to Epson…
We are going back to 60Hz, we’ll use super heavy PWM, we’ll move to plastic lenses for cost cutting, and implement panel tech that degrades with time if you don’t regular use them (according to the manual), OR if you do use them (according to experiences on the av forums), and remove features on “budget” models (like the 5000 series laser model not having lens memory and mechanized zoom and focus at that $5k price point where these features have traditionally existed ) this way Sony can usher customers into more premium tier models, we’ll lose the Epson automatic lens cover to cost saving, and finally the money saved by lowering manufacturing and product costs, we’ll pass to dealers, NOT to consumers. (Sony dealer margins are typically the highest, meanwhile their consumer prices are pretty much matched to JVC (that is to say simply too high for most folk)
I don’t know Rob Brennan, but I hope he reads this and thinks it over. You said you may not know it, but he’s a projector guy, how does that gel with Sony losing favor with HT projector enthusiasts over the last few iterations and being pegged as more stagnant than either JVC or Epson. Simply raising prices at Epson is easy to do. Don’t come into Epson and bring that mindset. We Epson customers don’t want that. If you want to notably improve the product, please do, but don’t bring Sony projector culture over to Epson. We Epson customers don’t want it.

See to be honest I honestly don't consider Sony number one. Yes their picture quality is Top Notch but not their operating system. I think what they use Android or Google that right there is just an absolute no-go. Why Sony don't have their own proprietary OS like LG or Samsung blows my mind. It's honestly why no matter how good Sony's TVs are I will never get one.. So to Me
LG has to be Over all #1 because they got great picture quality support all features and have a great OS(WebOS)
Samsung #2 because their picture quality is good they support a lot of features but not as much as LG or Sony But has a Great OS(Tizen)
Sony being #3 cause there OS is the worst of the big 3. But exceptional picture quality and also like LG supports all features.
OS to me is 60% of the grade. 25% Picture Quality 15% Features.

You do realize that almost everyone in the entire TV industry today disagrees with you on that, right? GoogleTV is widely considering to be the best, most flexible and easy to use OS of ANY the choices/options out there in the marekt today. Why do you think more companies are dumping their OS's and switching over to GoogleTV all the time now? Customers love GoogleTV. It is FAR more capable than either the WebOS or the incredibly confusing and entirely non-intuitive TizenOS for streaming content, live TV and available apps - and it's not even close. There is even talk that Samsung may well be dropping the TizenOS altogether soon and switching over the GoogleTV in the near future as well.

I'm a fan of both Sony & Samsung, as the 2 best TVs we have here are a Sony A9G 77" OLED (77" version of the 65" Sony OLED that won the 2019 Value Electronics Flat Panel Shootout) & our living room TV is Samsung's 85" QN90B Mini-LED LCD, that's an amazing unit in its own right. For example, at the end of July 2023, in listing the 7 65" TV models Consumer Reports test techs rated as the 7 65" TV models that the testers defined as having "Top Notch" picture quality, out of 93 models of 2023, 2022, & 2021 65" TVs of 9 brands, that CR's techs had tested, Samsung's 2022 model 65" QN90B was the ONLY Non-OLED TV earning that Top Notch description for its picture quality. And actually, the QN90B's successor, Samsung's 2023 QN90C 65" model, scored LOWER in overall PQ than the 65 inch QN90B did! I just wish that the test techs at CR had evaluated the performance of the QN90B in the 85" size that we have. But our experience with the 85" QN90B sure seems to back up CR's description of the 65" QN90B, such as CR describing the QN90B as "having a black level that's among the deepest we've seen." Since black bars displayed on our 85" Samsung, when viewing movies like "No Country For Old Men", are as deeply black as they are on our well tweaked Sony Master series OLED. Anyhow, CR's test techs certainly can't test EVERY TV model in EVERY size available, because CR evaluates over 200 models of TVs of various sizes EACH year! And that means CR's testers have MORE experience evaluating TV quality than reviewers or testers at about any other organization or test group in the world, have! CR buys TVs it tests from stores, the SAME way most TV customers get their TVs. NO TV models provided by a manufacturer, or by a brand, are used in CR's tests. And because Consumer Reports & its website (where digital subscribers can see FULL TV test reports) belong to a Non-profit testing organization that accepts NO advertising from companies selling products CR tests, IMO, CR's test results usually end up being quite accurate in describing the quality of products rated. BTW, the Sony A95L is currently CR's top rated TV!
