Like all site builders, Webflow definitely has its limitations. So you have to decide if it fits into your process and the types of sites you are building. For my agency it has been the PERFECT fit (especially when we focus on ranking those sites with SEO), but it may not be the best for you. This video does a pretty good job showing us where Webflow can fit in to your business.
With the power of being able to manage every element of a design, comes the complexity of managing every element of the design. I'm excited to see where webflow brings this tool, I wish their service plans didn't come off like a bargain rate cell phone plan... Remember the days of all those "creative web designs" that the general population could not figure out how to navigate? I'm truly shocked that Adobe never adapted Dreamweaver to work with wordpress or a CMS natively.
Totally agree, I was excited to use Webflow with my clients because of all of the design freedom, however, most of my clients are eCommerce business or need booking capabilities like doctors or hotels, who also need login credentiale, hence Webflow is no suited for my type of customers. And I know some plugins and advanced code could make it work, it honestly, the price of Webflow plus the price of each workaround does not justifies choosing Webflow over Shopify. I wonder if a platform so limited could be sustainable in the long run.
one aspect we don't discuss about the difference between wordpress and webflow is the number of jobs for this skills available on the market. I am in east coast and I just don't see many jobs out there asking for webflow. The reason is because wordpress exists for many years already and the support they need obviously is much larger than webflow.
That's obvious, wordpress is scalable while webflow isn't, it's more like a freelance solution to sell to small businesses so if you want to start freelancing webflow is a great starting point. But if you want a developer job or you've been freelancing and starting to get bigger clients, Wordpress is the way to go
I was 99,9% convinced to make the switch from WordPress to Webflow but the absence of multilingual support really is a dealbreaker. I wanted to design a small hotel website with EN/DE/NL language support, which in WordPress can be done relatively easily through (free) plugins. Webflow’s answer for this is using Weglot, which is a paid service I cannot convince the client to pay extra for. I saw something about duplicating pages manually in Webflow but this is not a scalable solution and it undermines the SEO structure. There are no videos on RUclips yet offering the solution so Ran, there might be an opportunity here :). Cheerio!
@@stijnjasper How’s that undermines the SEO structure? As far as I know, making a subfolder is superior to subdomain in most cases, e.g. yoursite.com/en is better than en.yoursite.com because the latter is a separate page - meaning, en.yoursite.com doesn’t help with yoursite.com’s SEO. I might be wrong about it though. Let’s see what Ran brings us next on this topic. Also, I do really hate lack of native multilingual support. I don’t think it will come out anytime soon because it seems like Webflow and Weglot have some sort of an agreement, no cap. Speculations lol. Still, Webflow gives you design freedom that Wordpress doesn’t. So it really depends on the project.

You kinda missed the big one. If you need CMS options, and you want to OWN you website, then Webflow is not the solution. As exporting it doesn't bring CMS with it. So you are stuck with Webflow's hosting.
Awesome description on when to use webflow, I've been looking for this for some time, I am planning to upload content and modify on a weekly basis, want to build a personal customized website, thank you...webflow seems to fit my needs....

Ease of use for content updates: Webflow is easy to use for websites with regular content updates, such as blogs. Cons of Webflow: Not ideal for complex e-commerce websites: Webflow lacks features like user accounts, product customization, and multiple payment processors needed for advanced e-commerce websites. Not suitable for very large content websites: Webflow may not be able to handle the complexity of managing a large website with many editors. Learning curve for beginners:Webflow has a learning curve and may be difficult for beginners who are new to website building.
it has been 3 years since this video, would love to know your opinion about webflow on the last 3 points. Are they stll the same or is it different in 2024?
Did too. But still use webflow and then export code and work with that. The process of building a UI on webflow is much easier and less tedious than code.
Me too. I realized Webflow's limitations and then started my path to become a front-end developer. I am in that process yet and I love it. After that, I will become a back-end developer so I can create those functions that clients always ask for. Also, Webflow is very expensive! I quit for that reason too.
Thanks Ran. I can't think of any other do/don't use cases but thanks for confirming that, for my area of interest, I was right to switch from WordPress/Elementor to Webflow and take your course!
I think Webflow is best for designing, whether front ends or backends...if you export them into your own VPS, then all the rest is irrelevant. That's how we use it anyway...we do the design in Webflow, then export the site, and translate the html into blade templates, which is really a trivial amount of work and something we still have to do if we did the design outside of Webflow (blade is for Laravel, but you could also easily translate them to Mustache or Handlebars as well). I don't' think I would host with Webflow unless I was making a site that I anticipated would have wild fluctuations in usage...although you could host on AWS and have the same dynamic scaling. For most of our use cases, the demand is pretty predictable. Whatever the end use, Webflow is a great design aid...really speeds things up.
That's interesting. So its possible to just get the design and functionality part out of the way when building a website then just go elsewhere possibly somewhere cheaper for security and hosting?
What setup would you recommend for a website to offer online course's, with quizzes, drip-feed content and the option to integrate webinars and podcast, etc. The whole deal... Can I do this with webflow? And if so, what integrations would I need?

Front end developers are ok with Webflow but I notice that back-end developers feel left out. I don't see UX design of back end sites as much? Is there such a thing?
I had to answer this, backend programing doesn't need UX because the clients don't see the backend. They rather need a database design or some sort of software architecture.
@@aprodan5245 I agree with you. Backend programming doesn't need UX but follow-up question, why do some engineers ask it anyway, if it's at all possible given that there is one for front end? I know it's not an easy question to answer but it did came up in a meeting with software engineers.

Can you do a video comparing Webflow to Wix? Or do you have one? I'm a beginner definitely dont know UX/UI but I am considering learning as it can be a valuable skill farther ahead. I'm studying CS anyway so it wouldn't be a worthless skill to learn for me.
Hi Ran, What about an online collaborative platform where topics are posted and experts are encouraged to post ideas and content and collaborate with each other?
Yes, I also would be interested in this with regards to webflow! Basically would it be suitable to create a Forum/Community like platform? (I know it cannot do it natively but are there maybe good plugins/integrations for that?)
Thanks for this vid! Question: I am a painter (UX/Product designer by day) and looking to have a unique portfolio of my work/brand online, my IA does require more of a menu (mini mega menu) and I would like the option to sell certain items - not all items. I am trying to decide between SquareSpace and Webflow - Seems like you answered my question but curious why there is such a learning curve with Webflow if they have so many preset templates? Do you mean the CSS/Html part if you want to customize?
Would you recommend for a marketing agency, to have full creative control? Worried about video uploads due to peoples comments regarding slowing down the website.

One of the main reasons I'm making a website is to have a big website with loads of products and to have users log in and store their information. I noticed you said Webflow wasn't good for this. What would be a good alternative and the best website to give me the freedom to make amazing things like Webflow but also give me that storage in user data and products? Thanks in advance.
Hope you see my comment - I need to build a site for a non profit and need to build it to accept online donations for the charity - can webflow work for that or what would you recommend in that case for my site? I’m not a web designer but a member of the board for this charity tasked with this duty.
i want to create a website for my window cleaning business that is created in a way that is able to be optimized and works well on google. I am willing to learn how to do this for my own websites but not as career building sites for clients. I was going to use Webflow but i see from the advice that it is not probably the best option. Could you recommend something that would suit me.
Hello, i have a question. I want to design a client´s website on webflow but don´t think it´s a good fit becouse the business is about "temporary apartments renting" need a member area, be capable of search apartments by dates, location, prices, etc and make reservations. Maybe i´m wrong but don´t see any integrations on webflow to do this king of things. Wix does it but it´s not as customizable. I don´t know if maybe wordpress might be a better option. Please help me figure it out wich patflorm should i choose.
Webflow is good for portfolio, only if you have $$$. I don’t so I ended up learning JavaScript. If you have the source code you can host anywhere you want.
How can I publish a website where some forms were able to write directly on a SQL SERVER Database? and also, make this website able to show information from there? Webflow could do it? or what tool could?
Hi, I work in a factory and wanted to have a website to manage my production data, quantity produced, sku, register capacity, clients, sales. Currently I have a VBA application in excel that does all smoothly but I wanted to migrate all this to an online platform. Which platform do you recommend which can handle all this databases?
Only you hate wordpress it seems, lol. I create online stores based on a lightweight theme that I later customize as a design, after making sure that everything looks good and is perfectly functional, I offer access to my clients and they already understand very quickly how to add products, how to manage orders + I offer them access through the woocommerce mobile application, as a bonus and they are very happy with all these things. If my customers are happy, my mission has ended and the conclusion is the wordpress is the best choice for many projects.
Definitely SaaS. I also get a lot of inquiries from insurance agencies, lawyers, cybersecurity firms... really anyone who needs a marketing site like Ran said. Just depends on what they want to spend and the relationship they want to have with their web developer. I find this can really determine if webflow is the right platform for them.
Webflow would be a good platform to use if you don’t want to learn to code even though you need at least some HTML and CSS knowledge. Otherwise use figma and work with front end and back end developers instead.
Webflow doesn't let me pick a mouse-over color or effect, placing a grid made a horrible mess and the blocks don't match the icons that I chose. It's just a terrible experience.
I want to get my website made for my ecommerce brand and Shopify is better than any other platform out there. The only reason that's making me want to use Webflow is because of how interactive it is. Is there a way to connect Shopify check-out to Webflow?
That's a good question and good point. Webflow on the design side is the best that I have seen to date. But ecommerce limitations is disappointing. Especially when I see that Wix has a better ecommerce platform. I was wondering too, if you can connect shopify to Webflow.
Its is possible. Once you have designed your front end on Webflow, You can use Udasly to convert code exported from webflow into a shopify or Woocommerce theme.

what a great video - so helpful ... but what do you think of people that wanna do online counselling services? or selling any ebooks/guides? I am thinking of going with webflow! :)
Can you do a video comparing Webflow to Wix? Or do you have one? I'm a beginner definitely dont know UX/UI but I am considering learning as it can be a valuable skill farther ahead. I'm studying CS anyway so it wouldn't be a worthless skill to learn for me.
If you build up the same business like "Boiler Room", would you roccomend webflow for it?
Super helpful, Thanks!!!
Can I start blogging with wordpress
Everyone recommends it, all I have to do is choose a good theme right? 😢
Hi Ran, What about an online collaborative platform where topics are posted and experts are encouraged to post ideas and content and collaborate with each other?
Yes, I also would be interested in this with regards to webflow!
Basically would it be suitable to create a Forum/Community like platform? (I know it cannot do it natively but are there maybe good plugins/integrations for that?)
question guys if I want to build something with the idea of like Uber or Airbnb witch way to go?
Excellent video - very clear, thank you.
Thanks. For my requirements I need something else.
Very insightful video , great Job!!!
thank you for the advice dude!
Hey man, is there a way to create a design in webflow and then 'upload' it to my shopify store?
What’s the best no-code for building apps?
What is the best builder for a media company website? 😃
He means building with Webflow requires you to know basic HTML and definitely how CSS interacts with HTML elements. I would go with SquareSpace though
@flux its 2022 now, what's your view on using webflow for multi product eccomerence websites?
Great helpful video. Tx
Would you recommend for a marketing agency, to have full creative control? Worried about video uploads due to peoples comments regarding slowing down the website.
Ran, how do you think, is Webflow good for building restaurant website with order form forwarding to messanger?
Hey there! Can you please send your question to this e-mail? team@flux-academy.com. Please link the video to the e-mail so the team can better help you. :) Thanks!
@@FluxAcademyI have sent my question to that email~ Thanks!
Hi Suppose there is an existing website so can we migrate and add a new design made in webflow in that existing custom-coded site?
One of the main reasons I'm making a website is to have a big website with loads of products and to have users log in and store their information. I noticed you said Webflow wasn't good for this.
What would be a good alternative and the best website to give me the freedom to make amazing things like Webflow but also give me that storage in user data and products?
Thanks in advance.
Shopify
Such a honest no BS video!
is there a woraround for the 10,000 cms limit? using a subdomain might solve the issue? i don't know u tell me please
May I take a template's from showcase in Webflow to make my own portfolio?
Or there is a couple of bags in templates and I shouldn't use them?
Thank you for this content.
This was very helpful!
@Flux Academy Hi, how is webflow in 2024? Is something change from this video for 3 years? thanks in advance for answer
Hope you see my comment - I need to build a site for a non profit and need to build it to accept online donations for the charity - can webflow work for that or what would you recommend in that case for my site? I’m not a web designer but a member of the board for this charity tasked with this duty.
Your bottle is always cool Ran!
i want to create a website for my window cleaning business that is created in a way that is able to be optimized and works well on google. I am willing to learn how to do this for my own websites but not as career building sites for clients. I was going to use Webflow but i see from the advice that it is not probably the best option. Could you recommend something that would suit me.
How does Webflow compare with Yootheme Pro?
Question about that portfolio website. That one appears to be using webgl. Does webflow have webgl capability built in?
Nah. You’ve gotta use custom code.

Check out servicenow
thank you
Only you hate wordpress it seems, lol.
Then who's the targeted clients for Webflow?
SaaS + one product store
Definitely SaaS. I also get a lot of inquiries from insurance agencies, lawyers, cybersecurity firms... really anyone who needs a marketing site like Ran said. Just depends on what they want to spend and the relationship they want to have with their web developer. I find this can really determine if webflow is the right platform for them.
@@crarls27 thanks fir this.
Can this be used for custom user based blog like show users only the interested content based on categories.
I currently have a Squarespace site...do you have a video for how to move all of the content on that site to Webflow?
not possible
What's about for a small banking platform?
I'm studying to become a UX Designer and I'm hoping to get some freelance clients. Would Webflow be a good platform to learn?
Do tag me when you got the answer. We're kinda in the same boat. hehehehe
.
Webflow would be a good platform to use if you don’t want to learn to code even though you need at least some HTML and CSS knowledge. Otherwise use figma and work with front end and back end developers instead.
WordPress Elementor is better than Webflow for most cases. Only data management webflow is better
@@stephennjoroge1303 I didn’t know that. Thanks for the insight. Will I have to pay for webflow plan in order to export the code?
