Added tip: 100 cents in a semitone and a semitone is the length apart between the next note in the piano :) also if the samples key is two far from being adjusted well try a key that works well with the key of the track (use the Camelot scale ect.)
You have got to be kidding me! I’ve been using the logic stock plugin pitch shifter this whole time (which sounds really bad) and just now you showed me the transpose function!!! This is going to help me so much, thank you!
@@bluefire9113 Fruity Loops. I throw the sample into Edison, then auto-find the key, then transpose to whatever Key I’m working in (or C)..... Is there a better way? I’m worried the auto-Key Finder may not be accurate.
Can't believe i never thought to do that, and it works great for kicks too- i just tried it. All these years of using exs24 to try and transpose my samples and i can do it in a second now. Thanks mate!
The most un convoluted tutorial. Bro I have seen 100's on this topic. But this one seemed simple and easy without you trying to over explain. So many musicians on here I think like to hear themselves talk and sound musically smart but really Complicate it like trying to get a drink of water from a firehose. Thx bud
Great tip here, should have pitched up two semi tones though to get D :-) Also to add to this you can mix in the click attack of the original pitched sample or another percussive click over the newly pitched sample to make it sound better as if your moving the sample more than +3 or -3 semitones you start to get artifacts.
What's up, Big Z! I really appreciate all the knowledge you share with us for free. Your music sounds AMAZING and your talent for teaching is so underrated. Keep it going! Peace!
From another planet! Thx. One question, can you also tell a trick how to get the keynote of a hole project ? Which instrument is most important to( baseline, lead, kick, vocals ) tell the keynote for a hole song..
I have plugins that let me tune drums and find the key, but I don't think I have anything that does what Fab Filter does. I generally use Serato Sample, but it's not perfect.
They just need to be on the same scale you using for the beat.. 808s generically do more than one note in a song. Kicks generically just play one note throughout the whole song. btw a kick most of the time should be on the root note
For those like me who still have the old version of logic.. so no transpose button on the left. Do you guys have some advice to wich is the best way to change the sample tune without make that shit sound trash as fuck? Any pitch plugin i've tried just completely ruin the sound the more you pitch it..
Nice video. I have 1 questions though - what about kicks for example? Their low-end fundamental is usually super wide (q-wise), in addition, sometimes a sample is also layered and I find it pretty difficult to determine whether it's C, C# or something in between (based on visuals from Pro Q). Any tips on that?
Hi Michal, what I do is pitch the kick 1 or 2 octaves higher and it usually becomes much easier to tell visually what key it is in. If you still can't tell what it is, you can also use a method similar to the one in the link below to figure it out. ruclips.net/video/9bQouq9a_CA/видео.html
What you are showing is easy. Where is becomes complex if the synth has a complex wave and you are trying to figure out what the key is to engineer the kick. You are doing it it reverse

Hey! What about clap samples which are not showing up root frequencies, is that mean that claps in key are not so important?
Fejciu claps don’t tend to have a tuneable tone to them
Thank you for educating everyone.
Humbleness bro.. Thank u.!
Hey Big Z, just a quick question. Does FabFilter Pro Q 1 have the same function?
I am happy I found the teacher today!!!
Big Z you are the best!!
i also like to just melodyne the samples to the right key, pretty easy way too
What is the flute sound you used pkz ? I like it
Been doing this for a long time! It works, great tip man
damn this is great!
Great info, dont use drum machines much yet, but will sometime
so (excusing my ignorance) does this mean that if for example a song is in A - that the entire kit (kik / snr / toms / cymblas) should be tuned to A ?
2 DAYS LEFT! thanks for the info, shared!
great advice and i can't believe it's free!
Hey can you show how to make a track like dion timber shiawase, escape, or money! thanks
