@dartben What he meant was that the players are pretty average individually but as a team have done excellent. That's just how Irish people talk. We are different to other English speaking countries. Trust me, everyone was happy to see the states progress. They play with the same desire that Irish fans identify with.
@ThaReaper01 Yep because they don't care. So actually that's good so they can really enjoy themselves and have very little expectation if anything the expectation only came from themselves. However that will change now. People will pay attention now at least.
@ludahai71 Good point but a growing theme of this WC, and especially after watching Spain j-walk through their game against 10 man Chile, is that the Europeans don't seem to have got their preparation right for this tournament. They are ALL under-performing bar Germany and Slovakia. Honestly if the US had to play WC qualifiers over a year long period with 1st seeds Holland, then Russia, and 3rd seeds Ireland, and in months when the European players are fresh, i wouldn't give them a prayer :D
Great stuff only for my crappy tv ariel i would be watching this live.bbc and itv never stop going on about 1966 SO FUCKIN WHAT...roll on the germans tanks and all...
@camelfocker i thought it was clear that the qualifying group america was the in was full of terrible teams ....unlike irelands group.ireland held the champions, italy,to 2 draws.we got the better of the 2 teams who were in the world cup final in the last world cup
"I think it embodied what America's all about (chuckle)." I think the fact that tens of thousands of people turned out to cheer for our president when he was in Dublin "embodies what America is all about." Call me crazy.
@alwayswinit4real i agreed with you until you said "england...portugal"....a few superstars, no doubt...just don't seem to perform well together.... ...infact they perform horribly...i still remember the world cup where us killed portugal (you can't be a powerhouse when USA beats you in the world cup....it's like cuba beating spain...just shouldn't happen...and you have 90 minutes to make sure it doesn't)
@alwayswinit4real hmmm....i agree with you....and it IS funny how much US has changed...i played semi-pro in the late 80s in chicago, before the present day professional league existed (chicago sting) and there's no way i would have made it in the present state....isn't it funny how now the MLS is like the retirement resort for european players?... does that mean i should have played league 3 in my teens?...crap....if only i could have known...and england loves yank keepers
You wouldn't get this analysis anymore.Bill was brillant. He just knew what to say to throw the spanner in the works and getca good debate going.
Bill's coup de grace at the end, pure class.
O'Herlihy, Giles Brady and Dunphy. The greatest tv panel ever. Irwin is a legend as well
I pity people who get offended by their comments.
I was pissing myself watching this earlier. The RTE lads are so much better than BBC or ITV.
You're making my World Cup, chalkitdowm. Keep up the good work.
Ladies and gentleman, your #1 source for all US gossip...Denis Irwin!

They are Irish :) not English
albany, usa never go for 2-0 results its just that we have a bad defense
i mean 1-0, and if it wasn't for refs we probabaly would have made it in 2006

Chicago Sting lol what a ridiculous name
"for what they are, they've been magnificent"
what we are is a team that's in the second round of the world cup, unlike ireland, who didn't qualify
LOL wtf man. You English are just like us Americans....when we are drunk.
