Worked in his flat a few weeks ago , due to covid restrictions never got to talk to him and thank him , his wife is a diamond though, always offering coffee or tea then slips a cheeky £20 into your pocket when job was done
I had the pleasure of seeing him at the Hippadrome in Birmingham in February 1975 in Hans Christian Andersen. He was incredible. An absolutely amazing afternoon as a young fella. I then saw him in 1980 at the West Bromwich Albion ground playing in an all stars match. Good player too. To watch him here is fantastic. What an incredibly talents man. His dancing and timing are perfection. Such rare talent . Everyone in this song compliments him. Such talented dancers. Such energy and enthusiasm.
The kind of entertainer who no longer exists, Mr. Steele was. He was the all-around entertainer who could do anything. I love numbers like the one seen here---eccentric show-dancing, rambunctious, super-energetic, so many cute physical movements, the ensemble nature of it, and, last but not least, it's wonderful length! When you think it's run its course, coming to the final conclusion, it picks up again with a whole new direction & sustained energy, it's so much fun to watch & incredibly entertaining!
Still one of my all time favourite songs and musicals, I remember seeing Tommy perform this on stage when I was little, went with my Mam and Grandma - Made such an impact on my life!

@@usafvet100 But MY FAIR LADY is American-made; only set in London. Same as MARY POPPINS. (The 3 mentioned above are set in the UK (or part of it for CHITTY), but made in the UK.)
@@mylesgarcia4625 If memory serves, Dame Julie did the stage version of Eliza Doolittle. Was that strictly Broadway, or was it also performed in the UK?
@@usafvet100 Both places. Dame Julie and Barbra Streisand are the rare 2 actresses who started their signature roles on Broadway (yes, Eliza and Fannie Brice for Barbra) ; and then had the good fortune to transfer them to the West End for limited runs. Now that's some dirty dancing! Say what you will about Tommy Steele, he definitely gave it his all. This number has a lot more energy than those from many celebrated American musicals.
I was in a stage musical back in 2019, the director showed us this and asked if we could learn it over the weekend, oh yeah, for sure. I told him I tried it when the movie first came out, I've practiced all those years and still can't dance.
The leavers one year dressed up and performed this song and for years after I always wondered what this song was - happy to say I found it all these years later
She was gorgeous. I remember she appeared in an episode of Wilde Alliance in 1978 wearing stockings & suspenders! She & Valerie Leon pulled me through my adolescence!
So much to love, but let's take a moment to appreciate the sequence at 4:38. No way in hell would they use old (but still massively talented) actors/dancers these days. Everyone has to be under 30. Boo for progress that's actually regression.
My kids are 3&6 and we’re mesmerised by this scene and couldn’t understand why they don’t make films like this anymore? Ps there other favourite is Scrooge with Albert Finney
There is so much to watch in this sequence that it needs repeat viewings to take it all in! So many great moments in the choreography, orchestration and delivery.
I KNEW IT! I looked and said that looks like Gillian Lynne in the middle! I’d recognise her phenomenal choreography anywhere. She did “Oliver” too, including the stage production, amongst many others. Amazing!
Tommy is, today in 2017, 81 years of age and I guess he's slowed down the pace considerably since this was filmed. I remember him well way back in 1957....
Bermonsey boys Brigade ! Tommy Baby !. all those years ago in Paignton Devon,Black pool tour,Me taking messages from Dawn his secretary,Tommy Steele's wonderful painting of the one man band,
Oh my word the dancing the coordinations the choreography the rhythm is outstanding.. what a marvellous clip indeed..
Pure brilliance 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Rehearsals for this scene alone must've gone on for months!
Hardly ever mentioned on tv in the UK but what a brilliant performer he became, we should be proud of him
Ron Wylie Agree 100%! Amazing performer 😃
Definitely!
Absolutely. You are so right.
Loved this song when I was a little girl, watching it now as a 60 year old I realise how much talent Tommy Steel had. Loved these old musicals.
And he's still going! He turned 87 yesterday, December 17th, 2023.
{:o:O:}
I have always thought that Tommy would have been perfect as Bert in Mary Poppins
Bert would then have had a proper accent.
Absolutely he would have been perfect for the role
Even without an accent, you're not going to do better than DVD.
Dick Van Dyke was good but yes that would have been a great idea.

"Flash Bang Wallop". What a great performance!!! Beautifully done. I love every minute of it.
Tommy, a true professional. An all round entertainer and what a class act. Thank you Tommy for the great memories.
Best continuous dance routine EVER!
Not exactly continuous. It took a week to film it, I heard.
Outstanding though. Even a few Michael Jackson moves in there, pre MJ.
Aged 5. Tommy gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me that I was a very pretty little girl. Chiswick Empire 1959.
Never forgotten.
I'm jealous! 😂
He wold have got arrested today

You think? I was so happy and my parents were unfazed.. In fact they were happy for me and told everyone.
Used to live down my road. Genius! Don’t make films like these anymore. Masterpiece
Yeah nows its all 'f' ing & jeffing with unnecessary nudity combined with 3rd rate acting. Can't beat the films of yester year.

Fond memories of this. Half a Sixpence was brilliant. Tommy spreads great joy Listen to his Little White Bull song it's lovely.

If no one does something like this at my wedding I will be very disappointed

Tommy Steele looks absolutely terrifying in this.
Brilliant Cockney 'knees up' song! Good enough to have found a place in Oliver! a year later!
Jack Wild (Oliver's Artful Dodger) is the photographer's assistant.
Interesting... Ty.
love this xxxx thank you tommy
Hi Rebecca
Good job Tommy! This is my favorite number from this wonderfully vibrant British musical!
I had his album as a kid lol still got it
Hi Paula
seen him in theatre , some like it hot and singing in the rain in manchester... absolutely brilliant
wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arranged and orchestrated by Irwin Kostal. Choreography by Dame Gillian Lynne
A very talented fellow....
If there was ever an up to date remake. Eddie Redmayne would be a great Arthur Kipps and he looks just like him too
I want my wedding to be like this.
Gr8 film tommy is the best one in a million
We used to sing this in school :)
Has anyone noticed all the best musicals are set in London. MFL, Mary Poppins, Oliver and HAS. Tommy Steel amazing should be world famous.
What a video!
Wonderful x
If L.S.D had been invented in the 1850's this is what a Victorian trip would look like.
Perfection👍
Tommy Steele will no doubt go down in history as people read his Wikipedia
Please upload the whole film.
priceless
GREAT! XXX

Hi Susie

Love it just crackerjack, brilliant. ❤😂😅😮😅

it was a good film but the two leads characters who were the married couple argue a lot almost like the forerunner to the eastenders TV series.
