Super helpful. With the video as a guide, I had the job done in 10 minutes and no cursing! Many thanks! My only recommendation is to energize the fridge again after the new damper control is installed and plugged in (but before-reinstalling the covers) so you can visually observe it opening properly. That way you know you have it wired correctly before re-installing all the covers.

Extremely helpful. Didn't take too long since replacement part came with wire harness. Basically it was "plug and play." Thank you!

Thanks so much for posting this video. Very helpful. Saved myself a fortune by fixing myself. My condition was that my fridge was getting too cold - the temp was dropping below freezing. Thought it might be a more complicated repair, but this fixed it.

This tutorial was right on the mark. It took me all of seven minutes to replace this part, including a quick visual test to ensure the flapper was moving before installing the cover. Nice job folks!!! This kind of thing makes us DIYers very happy.

Great video, very well done. Thanks!
The problem with our fridge was jus too much ice buildup that blocked cold air from being pushed up to fridge compartment. Melting and cleaning everything solved the problem. Saying that, it was really helpful to be able eliminate all other possible issues.

This looks exactly like my non-working damper with the door stuck open (except my model isn't motorized). I would have liked to see it working. Does the plastic pin go up and down somehow?

      Hi,
      My
If you still have the problem, have a look at this page :
      applianceassistant.com/appliance-repair/refrigerator-repair/w10503278-refrigerator-control-diagnostics-repair/
If your refrigerator is one of the same brands it is very easy to put the device into self diagnostic mode. I've checked my Amana GB1924PEKW for any problems in sensors and thermostats. All of them are working. I've tested the damper motor. It simply failed. I'll try to replace the part. :D It saved me a lot of bucks.
      Simply put:
      1. Press the door switch on the refrigerator section (The switch that turns off the illumination when the door is closed- if you have two such switches press both)
      2. While the door switch is pressed, press the refrigerator + switch 3 times (in 10 seconds) and release the door switch(es)
This should display an “S” in the freezer display and an “E” in the refrigerator display.
      3. Press the refrigerator temperature (+) button one time to confirm that you want the service mode.
That's it. You're in service mode until you shut the door.
There will be some numbers displayed and in a few seconds you'll have 1 displayed on freezer display. That is the test number. Increase by + decrease by - until you reach the desired test number. Then press the refrigerator + button to cycle the test on and off.
For the test results information check the site.

Four stars. I would have appreciated how you knew this part was the problem of why your refrigerator was warm.

if it works after changing it :):) ....got to know how to test it with a multimeter to see if there is conductivity. or just put a video camera inside let it record what the naughty damper is doing. if it opens it is working if it stays stuck(open or close) then it is broken. just make sure your recording device doesn't catch a flu :)

My KitchenAid refrigerator is cooling well but there is a chugging or rattle every time the damper operates. I assume it needs to be replaced.

My refrigerator is very noisy in this part. However, it is very expensive in Canada ($130+15% tax). Do I need a new part? No. I just used silicone spray to "add" silicon into plastic moving parts. All good now. very very quiet now.

Great video, the replacement part is available as "official" or 3rd party. Which should I buy ? (Ebay) Don't want to end up with defective one again if possible. thx. Update: 12/29/21 received part today bought thru Ebay (approx $100) it came from SD, great service this time of yr. Installed, and no noise. Problem is in the circular motor ( metal round thing) made in China (duh)
