1st, i have to tell you, before i forget, that i love that you say Sean's "Good Evening "! Now, to your day, snorkeling! I have always loved snorkeling, but found much of the Carribean places they take you too, are foggy, with hardly any fish. But like your day, in Routan, there it was like being inside an aquarium. My favorite place in the world, is the Great Barrier reef. That was spectacular! Even more so Routan. Put that on your bucket list! But 1 time in the Bahamas, we were doing a private snorkeling tour, and since we were pretty much by ourselves, and in very deep water, i had just picked my head up to see , and right in front of me....pretty close i got to see the whales tale, go back in the water!!! Very exciting!!! It still amazes me , how much food you can put away!! I sure wish i could, but i tend to get filled up after the appetizer and breads! Then i get desert, if i got an entree, i wouldn't be able to eat a dessert!! Vickie from SE Pa

I have recently found your vlogs and have been having all the feels! My first cruise was 6 months after my husband passed away. I had my 12 year old son and his best friend with me. As soon as we boarded they were off and I found myself alone, eekkkkkk!!!! I can not say I embraced cruising at that point, lol. Since then (17 years ago now) I have been on many cruises but never alone. Well, I am now planning a solo cruise this year! Your tips are wonderful. You are an inspiration because I know how difficult it is to be solo when EVERYONE is paired up. Sending lots of love your way!

Lots of great tips! I've done plenty of cruising but I learned new stuff- like the dollar bill folding trick! Now I want to go to Roatan and go snorkling! Looks so amazing. And having a guide in the water with you is fantastic. This also reminded me to buy more reef safe sunscreen for my cruise in two weeks! :) Yes, the excursions through the ship are a bit of a gamble for size. I've been on excursions that are multiple busloads but some of the more off-the-beaten-path excursions were small groups. Loved loved loved our Wonderland dinner on Anthem. We also let the server pick the dishes for us; that part was fun, too!

I am not a swimmer so West Bay divers wouldn't be for me. But I have been to Roatan and !ike you, we booked a private tour of the island with Victor Bodden Tours. Also like you I did lots of research and read reviews. He offers lots of options. We told him what we wanted to see and basically put together our own tour and the price was ridiculously inexpensive. As a result, Roatan became my favorite cruise port. I love taking photos and any time I wanted to take a picture of something our driver would simply stop and let me take a picture. We even got to drive on a beach when he showed us how people got around before the road was put in. There is a beautiful beach called Half Moon Bay that I would definitely spend some time at on a return trip... quiet and non commercial. In fact Roatan was my perfect idea of an island. It seemed like a tropical paradise than a tourist trap. And there is an AMAZING cameo factory where they carve conch shells into jewelry, lamps, ornaments, etc. Absolutely beautiful. And we got to spend as much time as we wanted. This is also where we really learned the advantage of a private tour. We forgot to tell our bank we were going to be out of the country so our bank card was rejected. The employee says there is a bank machine near by, so she gets in the car with us, directs the driver, helps my husband with the machine, then it's back to the store to make our purchase. This could never happen on a group tour. So hurray for Victor Bodden and hurray for Roatan.
Sidenote, we were told this was a high crime port by the ship and that we should not venture out on our own. I figured 1) We we're going to be in a car most of the time, and 2) We live in Baltimore and I seriously doubted the crime could be any scarier than home where murders can be as common as ants on a picnic in some areas.

Why did you title this The Most Dangerous Port?
Knowing about the ladder is very helpful. My previous snorkelling had been either beach walk in, or a catamaran with a stair like ladder. Then I took my mom on her first excursion ever in Costa Maya. It was a private snorkel, and the boat had no ladder! We hadn’t even considered that. Trying to heave my mom back up over the side is quite the memory LOL.

    • @seanandstef
      @seanandstef  2 года назад

According to google, Roatan is considered the most dangerous port in the Caribbean. I found that out while I was doing research and that is why I was so nervous to venture out on my own.
Getting back on the boat is always my biggest concern. I am happy that newer boats have ladders

    • @TracyKMainwaring

@@seanandstef can’t say I felt unsafe there. It was a little nervous waiting outside the port while our driver went to get his van, but it was probably better than walking in the sun, with no sidewalks, and five people, to his van LOL

On one private excursion I did I made sure to leave my itinerary where the ship could find it! I don’t recall where I was now, we weren’t alone on most tours.
There was a lot written about women traveling solo in Malaysia as some impressions of solo women in foreign countries came from American movies - not always an accurate portrayal.

That looks so excellent! Can I ask, how long was the excursion? I'll be going to Roatan with a group of people who some like snorkeling, some just want a beach. I was thinking Tabyana, but the peddlers were turning me off. But this sounds perfect for the snorkelers, and maybe Little French Key for everyone else... Anyway, when you described the peace of being underwater, I've said those exact words. It's a magical experience, and I can't get enough of it! Thank you for the awesome video content!! I felt like Belize was way more dangerous then Roatan. I went in Decmeber. Beautiful island. I didn't like the Odessey in February. There were 600 kids on board and both hottubs in the solarium were broken. Have you ever seen kids take over a ship before?

    • @seanandstef

I have felt that about Belize as well. I was surprised when I googled Roatan doing research about the excursion and saw that it was classified as the most dangerous port in the Caribbean. I thought it was a lovely island.
I’m so sorry you had a bad cruise on Odyssey. We have been on many cruises where it feels like kids have taken over. It seems to happen towards the last few days and we usually steer clear of those areas. Not a big deal for us but I can understand the frustration

Stef, thanks so much for the tips on a solo excursion. I'm going on my solo cruise in a few months and watching your videos makes me exciting and not fearing it. I have a question, you mentioned at the end of a travel theft proof bag you carried. Can you tell me where I can order one? Thanks.

Glad you had a great time. Odyssey was not my favorite ship that's for sure. She is beautiful, but not my favorite by far.

But did you find Nemo? I'd love to see a Whale-Shark some day. Roatan is my favorite stop ever.

I made those same faces when I ate at Wonderland on the Harmony.

YOU, my dear, are a troublemaker. I already knew I wanted to see monkeys, sloths and parrots. Now I have a decision to make. sigh. Great video!

It's too bad Britney Watson won't sponsor you for a May 1 Bermuda cruise on the Norwegian Joy.

Love the content and the tips you share on being a traveler. I’ve had my fair share of being intimidated by the wall of male taxi drivers and people soliciting for you to buy stuff. But I’ve come to learn that it may be the only way they can earn an income especially the poorer islands. I now bring cash to purposely spend on each island and buy hand crafted items or spices back on the ship. Since I don’t necessarily need the items I buy, I sometimes gift it to the cabin Stewart after I leave.

What do you do with your valuables when you’re snorkeling ?

I don’t bring much on the boat. The only thing valuable was probably my phone and a little bit of tip money. I kept that all on the boat. I wasn’t worried about anything
