I've been using a Glowforge for a few years now, but I learned a few things I didn't know from watching your video. I didn't know about the set focus option while in editing mode! Thank you for this tutorial and for explaining the steps you take so well.
Hello fit2fiddle2!!! Thank you so much. I am uploading another Glowforge video either this evening or tomorrow, depending on when I am done editing and uploading it to RUclips.
I'm curious if there was any particular reason you engraved it vertically as opposed to horizontally? It probably would have saved you some time if you did it horizontally.
Thanks so much!!! I went and subscribed to your channel just now and saw a super cute baby on it:) Love TheBestUni!!! The Glowforge is fun and if you can get some people to use your discount link, you can make back some of your money.
There's a couple of ways. I typically just make the items two different colors in Inkscape. That will bring them in separately. However, if your design software has a layers feature, you can use it to create truly separate layers that way.
Mine has not yet, but I do believe it could definitely wear off over time. I tried to use a thin layer to avoid cracking. I used really cheap paint, but I would think something more pliable, like leather paint, might wear even better. Let me know if you try it:) Thanks for watching!
Great Video. A comment about the paint. Any paint applied to silicone that is non silicone will crack off. The only ink that is permanent is siliart silicone inks for color-filling engraved silicone watch bands by Boston industrial Solutions.
Thank you for watching K Hughes! It is overwhelming at first, but it get better:) Are you asking how I had the watch band image on my Glowforge software? If so, the Glowforge has a camera on the bottom of the lid. The camera looks to see what is on the bed of the Glowforge and then adds that onto your screen so that you can see where to place your design. Let me know if you have any other questions or if I didn't answer your questions.
When I am trying to cut or engrave in really tight spots, setting the focus just causes the camera to refocus so that I can see exactly where I would cut/engrave. It's not necessary, but I find when I do not do that, my things can be slightly off of where I planned for them to be. Thank you for watching!
@@MakingwithMarilyn I just had to waste a band to figure out the right settings. I think I commented when I was upset. Sorry! It definitely depends on the type of band what the settings are. Trial and error :)

Thank you so much, Julie!!! I am glad you found the video helpful!!! Thanks for checking it out.
Thank you very much for this! It takes the guess work out of engraving watchbands! You are a great teacher!

No particular reason. Thank you for the suggestion.
@@MakingwithMarilyn Thank you for the settings. They worked well.
@@2sly4u2c that's great! Thank you for letting me know!
What are you holding the bands down with?
They are little honeycomb clips that I cut out using the Glowforge. It's one of the very first things I made it it.
I want this machine so so bad. We family now @TheBestuni sent me here. Great video

Hi thanks for the video! How did you bring the image in 2 layers? Thanks!!

Hi!
Do you have any trouble with the paint staying? Does it come off or crack off over time?
Thank you!

@@jaysonfrench8924 thank you so much for sharing that information.
I am a straight newbie. How did you have the apple watch band image on there?

Can someone please specify how much power does one need to engrave silicone? Everybody points at percentages only :(
What laser are you using to engrave on silicone?
That's nice Marilyn.. let me know when you're ready to be my teacher. I need 1 on 1 lessons. I'll pay for them
Thanks Tam-Tam! No payment necessary:) Maybe we could chat via zoom or phone soon to make a game plan.
why did you need to set the focusing?
When I am trying to cut or engrave in really tight spots, setting the focus just causes the camera to refocus so that I can see exactly where I would cut/engrave. Thanks BestUni!!! I appreciate you!
If I use these settings the engraving comes out slimey
Oh no, I am sorry they don't work for you.

Will it engrave transparent silicone rubber
I don't have any transparent silicone rubber to try it, unfortunately. It does engrave on clear acrylic.
